Description

The next book in the explosive new thriller series by former special operations sniper and New York Times bestselling author of The Reaper.

A convoy of cars carrying several family members of the President’s cabinet to Camp David for “Family Day” is ambushed, killing and wounding wives, husbands and children.

Immediately in the aftermath, Vick Harwood watches a Facebook live feed of his former ranger buddy Sammie Samuelson’s apparent suicide and confession in his Thurmont, Maryland apartment, just one mile from Camp David. Remnants of a firefight are in the background: sniper rifle, rocket launchers, and ammunition. Simultaneously, an intruder breaks into Harwood’s house.

Harwood arrives in Thurman to investigate the suicide and, with the help of attractive FBI agent Valerie Hinojosa, traces evidence left by Samuelson to a fiendish plot involving transnational terrorists and domestic political opponents.

Meanwhile, the president wants retribution, and will stop at nothing to get it. Harwood joins Team Valid, whose mission is to kill the family members of terrorists and eliminate their seed from the earth. Team Valid, consisting of Hinojosa, Harwood, a Navy SEAL sniper, and a Marine Force Recon sniper, travels to Crimea, Iran, and Azerbaijan before realizing the mission is not what it seems. Harwood struggles to balance his orders with his sense of right and wrong—without losing his life in the process. As Samuelson is implicated in the Camp David ambush, it is a race to protect his remaining family and uncover the sinister plot in the homeland.

Vick Harwood, the Reaper, is clearly of super hero status. Pulling off a series of face-paced and exciting missions, the free world is once again in good hands. Couldn’t put this book down!

My thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my review.

An insanely intense story that starts off with a bang!, literally. A convoy of vehicles transporting family members of the sitting Presidential Cabinet is attacked, and no one is left alive. Reaper is brought in to help investigate the apparent suicide of his friend and spotter who has ben framed as the assassin involved in the attack. Following threads provided to him by the FBI and others in the government, Reaper and a small team globe trot seemingly trying to unravel the truth.

The duo of Irving and Tata continue to have a mega-hit series with Reaper. The character is sufficiently bad-assed to survive in the Thriller genre, has personal flaws, and maintains his deeply rooted convictions, even when they cause him to question orders.

If you missed reading Ghost Target, the first in the Reaper series, you can read this book and be sufficiently "in the know" and definitely entertained. My suggestion though would be to read Ghost Target first because it too is an excellent book.

Thanks to the authors as well as St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for my thoughts and opinions. 9.5 of 10 stars This will stand as one of the top Thrillers of 2019.

Top-Notch Thriller

This is the second in a series featuring sniper Vic Harwood but the first I have read.

This novel sizzles from the opening pages. President Bob Smart has invited his cabinet members and their families to Camp David. The limos conveying their family members are blown up in a series of explosions coupled with sniper fire. Blood everywhere. Vic Harwood receives a message from his friend via Facebook showing him with a gun to his chin with the massacre playing out on the screen.

Evidence found implicates Sammie as one of the snipers. And other material points to the attack being orchestrated by terrorists based in the Middle East. Vic is recruited as a member of Team Valid, along with two other snipers and Valerie Hinojosa, Sammie's sister, who has a high level position in the intelligence hierarchy. The team travels to Crimea, Iran and Azerbaijan before realizing something is seriously amiss. Vic has been abandoned in Iran by the other two snipers and later realizes this was not accidental. He makes his way to Azerbaijan where he reconnects with Valerie and they make their way back to the US.

In parallel we learn that a plot is afoot to take down President Smart, involving former Presidential candidate Senator Brook Logan and her cohort of hackers and schemers.

This is fast-paced, no holds barred , political/terrorist thriller. Greatly enjoyed it.

My copy of this novel was provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

Thrilling, fast paced action! There is no time to catch your breath as the story moves from one scene to the next. Figuring out who the bad guys are is almost impossible until the very end. The one person you are sure of is the hero, Reaper. The tactical information is very good and also super scary knowing that it is totally possible. Totally loved it!
