Interest Level: 5-8

Have you ever wanted to go into a house that was supposedly haunted? Well Josh is determined to go into the oldest house in his town to see if it is haunted. What makes him more determined is that his dad told him to stay away but did not give him a reason why. Josh talks his two friends, Samantha and Ryan, to go with him. Ryan decides to stay outside and be the lookout guy while Josh and Samantha go inside. They had made a plan that Josh would wave at Ryan through the window once they were inside, but why can Ryan see him waving? And why is there a trail of fresh blood going out of the room that they just walked into? Josh and Samantha decide they have had enough and go to the front door, but when they open the door that is supposed to go outside it just leads them into another room. And the door in that room leads to another room, and so on and so on. Josh and Samantha are trapped. Can Josh use his cell phone to contact Ryan to go get help? Or will Josh and Samantha be trapped forever in the house with a million rooms? Read this second book in the Twisted installment by Wil Mara to find out the answers to these questions and so much more... if you dare!

This is a super creepy story that any kid who likes this genre will love. This says that the interest level is for grades 5-8 but I think that even a younger reader will love this story.

Different and adequately engaging, I was somewhat disappointed... if only because I should have anticipated that this was something written more for a YA audience than for adults with a penchant for good horror stories. Way too many instances of "I told you you shouldn't go there / do that", with fairly obvious outcomes. OK, but not a shaker.

** I thank the publisher and/or author for allowing me to read this novel as an ARC, without recompense, in exchange for my honest review. **

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I was definitely excited when I spotted this one up on Netgalley, I am always looking around for some new horror/ghost/haunted house stories and this one seemed to be right up my alley.

Sadly, while it was scary at points, it wasn't as scary as I had hoped. Up until the point that they went into the house, and then a few bits of the house it was scary. Then it suddenly went way different and to be honest I wasn't scared any more. And not just me, the kids also were barely scared of things which turned me off even further.

Plus, I can imagine that you are shocked to find out what your family did in the past, but I did think the reactions were maybe a tad bit too much. Yes, your family, and families of the town did something horrific, and yes it is terrible that it happened, and yes you will have to live with the fact they did that, but it still felt a bit too much.

In the end I had just wished the people had talked about what had happened. Instead of acting grumpy and suspicious. Because, hello? Kids are going to be kids, they are only getting more and more curious as you withhold stuff from them. I didn't blame them at all that they went inside the house, I think I may have done the same. :P

I am glad that they found the source of why the house kept regenerating. And that they could help it out.

The story is written in simple/easy and often short sentences which didn't make it easier for me to read, but I can imagine it delights kids, especially those who have a hard time with reading.

All in all, still an OK book with some scary moments, the Salem-trials is also named, and the house was interesting (though in the end also a disappointment).

Okay, easy and quick!!!
This book was an easy read and is directed at the children market. The book follows Samantha, Josh and Rob three teens intrigued by an abounded house in the woods, after being warned not to go near the house they begin research on the house only to find no evidence of the house existing , thus leading to the teens entering the home of Anna Young. Would only recommend to children!
