Description

In 1928, a fire spread through Twin Springs Hotel and stole General Rockwell's greatest treasures, his three daughters; Emerald, Ruby and Amethyst. How they really died has remained a secret until now.

If Isabella Fairbanks had known that morning would change her life, she would’ve hidden better. But, at the tender age of eight, her friends called her Izzy, her father was larger than life, dreams were make believe, boys were gross, and ghosts lived only in books. Most of all, she’d be able to live within the safe walls of Twin Springs Hotel and Spa forever and ever.

All grown up, Isabella chases her dream of becoming a chef. She returns home for her father's funeral and finds Theo Beaumont, the jerk who held her under the water as a sick joke, not only sitting behind her father's desk as the new General Manager but also a half owner of Twin Springs. Fighting to regain full ownership, she discovers that boys aren't always gross, and ghosts don't only live in books. After a string of strange accidents, another deep dark secret begins to emerge and a frightening thought occurs to Isabella, what if nightmares are real?

Returning home for her late father’s funeral, Isabella Fairbanks finds Theo Beaumont sitting behind her father's desk as the new General Manager but also a half owner of Twin Springs. Theo is also the very same man who decided to play a sick prank on her five years prior during an intimate moment in the pool by pulling her underwater fully aware of her imminent fear fear of drowning. Determine to regain full ownership, Isabella proclaims to the half owners that her and her older sister Ava will turnaround the failing historial hotel in one year and if not, they will forfeit ownership. During the attempt of winning back her childhood home, she discovers that boys aren't always gross, and ghosts don't only live in books. After a string of strange accidents, another deep dark secret begins to emerge and a frightening thought occurs to Isabella, what if history has a way of repeating itself?

First things first, what a phenomenal first novel from Dee Armstrong and I want to applaud her for creating a good piece of work. After reading the blurb I was immediately captivated by the romance and the supernatural element and wanted to dive right in. The past and present intertwining brought a different element into the read, allowing you to become more intrigued by the three gems Emerald, Ruby and Amethyst and their connection to the present day characters Isabella, Ava and a third lead that has yet to be introduced. I don't think I've ever read a book that had so many likeable and some unlikable characters before, from the Twin Springs staff that’s more like family all the way to the main characters Isabella and Theo. The magnetic pull excels through the pages between the leads, even from their past lives, enthralled me as I turned each and every page allowing me to feel apart of the story. Despite minor spelling and grammar errors, the beautifully written words left you engrossed and flow of the story made it an easy read. It showcased that history has a way of repeating itself and the journey entries give you a sense of that.

With all the praise given, there were any few things that didn't appeal to me such as Maddy behavior which was justifiable considering the lost of her parents at a tender age but that within itself doesn't excuse her from her rambunctious behavior. Furthermore, the feelings that developed between the lead characters was rather instant yet it didn't take away from the story. They have always been connection even from their past lives so it's somewhat understandable why they felt the sparks from the get-go. Lastly, it was obvious from the start, at least from my perspective, who was responsible for the incidents at the Twin Springs. I won't spoiled too much but I wished more background information was provided as to why those actions were rendered yet the explanation somewhat presented through Isabella dreams.

Overall, Dee Armstrong “Visions of Emerald” was a great read and I would definitely recommend to anyone interested in branching out to the supernatural and historic romance element. The characters, content and the amazing journey from past to present and how everything and everyone is connection made the read worth while. I'm looking forward to reading the remaining books of the series and the reincarnation of the gem sisters come to life
