This book has a bit of everything - it's fantasy with a dash of intrigue and action, partly set in some kind of parallel world, with a pirate and DEA agent as main characters, and a beautiful romance for good measure. It had a slow start but once the story picked up I couldn't stop reading. Well the book has an interesting plot, that I admit I didn't understand right away. Many things are not well described and are left alone without further descriptions which annoyed me but as story progressed things got more clear (or they simply didn't bother me that much any more). The main female character - Aliyana Montijo was a strong heroine with a kick ass personality, a certain charisma, and a strong will of her own capable to stand her ground against everyone else. I really liked her.
The hero of the book, Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness (yes, that's a mouthful) was very interesting character. And charming, oh so charming. I liked him too.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, it was a nice read. Apart from the slow start and maybe a little rushed ending it was a very enjoybale book.

Heart of the Storm
by Debbie Peterson

An amazing story of a extraordinary daring adventure to save life’s while putting your own life on the line. Aliyana Montijo is a DEA agent undercover to gather and deliver evidence on a deadly drug lord in Columbia. Wolfaert Dircksen Van Ness is captain to the Witte Wieven, a ship that has been jumping parallels for hundreds of years. When these two cross paths they end up teaming together, each using their own unique skill sets to bring down a dangerous man. As the mission rises in intensity, feelings begin to bloom between the two characters. Can they pull off the mission and find a happily ever after?

I found this book to be well plotted. The story’s details pull you along and kept me curious to see what would happen next. And I enjoyed the dynamics of the main characters and the abilities that each contribute in the story. I recommend you read this great story to see what grows between Aliyana and Wolf!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book has everything in it. Pirates, romance, suspense, and humor in some parts.
The first few chapters were confusing a little and slower to read for me, but quickly after the story picks up and you are loving it!
Romance is good, the main lead besides a long name has also a charisma and holds the book very well with adventure and romance!
The book was different - but I loved it!

This is a good mix of time travel and romantic suspense. My rating 4.5.

Aliyana has been working undercover for a Colombian drug lord, Emil. Now that she is completing her security tech work she knows she must escape or face death. The local guards have commandeered her motorcycle so she commandeers Emil’s plane. On her way to Florida, Aliyana is caught in a storm and the plane is hit by lightning. While heading to crash into the ocean, Aliyana thinks she sees a pirate ship. She awakens in a lighthouse to find a handsome, strangely dressed man hovering.

Wolfaert is the Captain of a Dutch West Indies vessel who has been traveling between parallel dimensions. It isn’t easy to explain to this spirited young woman that she has fallen through a time tunnel. Before leaving Columbia Aliyana had stumbled upon information of an assassination plot by Emil against the families of the DEA. She is determined to get back to her world and time to protect those targets.

I enjoyed the steady action and intrigue in this story. This was augmented by the machinations and nuances of time traveling spirits. Then you have the pleasure of a growing romance with a twist very near the end. I found the story creative and the writing well-paced. I would be interested in reading more from Ms. Peterson. I recommend this to readers who enjoy romantic suspense and time travel.

This was slow to start but definitely improved as the story went on.
It could have been so much better though with the fantasy side explained more.
