Description

W.B. is back and more disappointed than ever when he discovers a new series of popular books that depict the Barons as bumbling fools. His parents M and P, along with Rose Blackwood, laugh at the books until their plummeting reputation starts scaring off the buyers of their inventions, leaving the family without an income.

As family members start disappearing one by one, P realizes that the author of the books is not out to ruin just their reputation, he’s determined to erase their past. All of the Barons must race to intercept their rival time-traveler and stop him from erasing the entire Baron family from existence before their time runs out.

A Note From the Publisher

Eric Bower and his lovely wife, Laura, live in utter terror of their cat, who rules their small cottage in Pasadena, California with an iron paw. Eric can’t quite recall when the cat took over the house, or what life was like before he became a slave to the “Furry Empress,” but he imagines he used to spend some time working as a playwright. His plays have been produced in Southern California and New York City, and have been described as “quirky and fun,” and “containing a disappointingly small number of strong feline characters.”

tl;dr: Time machines can be a bad idea

This fast middle-grade reader novel was a surprise. The story has a sort of Pritchett-like absurdism, on an age-appropriate level. I liked the pacing and the characters. But, i particularly enjoyed the way the book was about togetherness, with family meetings, family disappearance, and collective problem-solving. This book would be ideal for someone who doesn't realize reading can be enjoyable. I mean nutso squirrels! Also, shout out to the illustrator who did a wonderful job.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received an electronic version from Amberjack Publishing through NetGalley.
The humorous adventures continue in the latest book about the Baron family. This time a mortal enemy of McLaron has invented a time machine that changes the family's lives. Needless to say, P (McLaron) also has a time machine and they set off to fix the problems. Adventures galore as they revisit the trials and triumphs from the first three books. Family members continue to be erased until WB is the only one left. He confronts Werbert and takes a voyage through various time periods as they wrestle to either destroy or save his family.
Mid grade readers will delight in the dry humor and relatable cartoonish characters Bower has created.
The realistic illustrations reinforce the farce of the storyline.
