Strange dreams of a handsome, passionate, and commanding man playing a beautiful melody on violin haunt her nights and gradually consume her thoughts. Time-traveling minstrel Piers de Crespigny demands that Nina help him in his ghostly quest to be reunited with his lost love Miranda. Obsessed with playing his music, seduced by its power, and half in love with Piers herself, Nina is afraid she will do anything for him. Nina Lee hasn’t played violin for a couple of years but when she discovers an old piece of sheet music at a rummage sale, a yearning overtakes her. It’s entitled Shadow Music and she buys the sheet music. That same night, she takes out her violin and begins to play. Without realizing it, she played for hours, not even stopping to eat. The music seduces her with strange dreams and desires. She doesn’t want to eat, sleep or go out with her friends, she only wants to play. When a mysterious man hums the same melody, she invites him into her home. Together, Nina and Martin embark on a journey to gather the six parts of the music and to travel back in time to find Piers, the powerful minstrel who controls them through the music. Can they reunite Piers with his beloved Miranda before they both lose themselves to Shadow Music?

It’s been a long since I’ve been so taken with a book. From the very first page, Shadow Music wove an intoxicating spell on me. I instantly connected with Nina and her musical soul. The paranormal aspects are subtle yet carried me away. Similar to The Phantom of the Opera yet the setting of Australia brings an exotic feel to Shadow Music. When I finished, I cried a little. Shadow Music is a beautiful story with paranormal and musical themes. A must read!

It was a very interesting read and you could almost "see" and feel how obsessed Nina got with Mirand and Piers. And that was somewhat creepy, but it was interesting and i'm glad the happy ending occured nontheless.

This book is disturbing, but in a good way. The author does a good job of injecting the paranormal into an exciting story arc.
