Georgette was on her way to the island of Palumba. She wondered if their mom was right and her twin Jamie was in trouble- again. Jamie had got the money from their father’s life insurance policy and georgette got the care and feeding of the bookshop…. and mom. Jamie used the money to go on a whirlwind trip traveling the world. Jamie had sent a postcard hinting at wild times with a ritzy international crowd and included a joke about getting in over her head. Jamie’s correspondence ended after that last postcard. Their mother had demanded Jamie send her postcards almost every day on her travels. Her mother was now in a tizzy. Georgette decided even if she had to spend time hauling jamie out of another scrap, she planned to enjoying herself the rest of the time. Georgette had always dreamed of traveling. Georgette’s best friend was linda and she talked Georgette buying new clothes for the trip. Georgette and Jamie were as different as any two people could be for being twins. When Georgette got to the reception desk and asked about her sister the clerk had said she hadn’t been back in a couple of weeks. But she did give her Jamie’s room number but couldn’t just let her in. Georgette knew Jamie took what she wanted from men cast them aside. She went to the bar by the pool and asked the bartender if he had served Jamie and he described her and said she was the life of the party. He also told her Jamie had hooked up with a large party of young international tourists. Mostly French. Brice was Georgettes ex fiance and she had caught him having sex with Jamie and they had been having an affair for awhile and than broke off their engagement. Even when he groveled back to her she said no. than the man who had helped her on the airplane sat down next to her. He told her to be careful if she was traveling alone when she left the resort. The man’s name was Jake and he owned the resort. She told him her name was Georgette. She went to watch the cliff divers and was pushed against the bars from someone behind her with garlic breath told her to go home. She wondered why she had been singled out? Georgette told Nigel- the bartender what happened and had her talk to Jake about it. Jake kept intruding on Georgettes thoughts. According to her mom brice wanted her back and she told her to tell him it’s over.A man yelled at her to join their table his name was Gunther and there was Nicole and a few others. They had all known Jamie and said her last conquest was Jean-Paul. Her first had been Jake. Georgette ahd thought about a fling with jake but not now. Jake came up to georgette he wanted to know why this shy, reserved woman was on her own in this international playground. There was a Palarosa ritual sacrifice at another hotel and Jake was glad when the subject had been changed \. There was too much rumor and speculation about Palarosa - especially lately. It was bad for tourism, bad for business. Jake kissed georgette and she almost forgot about Jamie … almost. Than she ran down the beach and she watched the Palarosa ritual show-a fallen woman was who was sacrificed but it was an act.On her way back to the report someone tackled her from behind and almost drown her and said” we told you to go home, leave now or you’ll be going home in a body bag.” jake went to georgette’s room looking for hre but she wasn’t there. Than Miguel called him and told him to come to the side bar and there was Georgette huddled in a blanket. Jake wondered what was happening to his island? Why Georgette? It had to be linked to Jamie disappearance. Someone knew georgette was Jamie’s twin. Jake told georgette she was in danger because of Jamie and she said jamie had taken off to another island with Jean-Paul. Jake said that was one of the rumors going around.Another said she was sacrificed in a Palarosa ritual. He added a local woman disappeared two months ago and Jamie disappeared last month both on the full moon. The local woman had been caught cheating on her husband with his best friend by her husband. The word among the locals was the Gods were angry. Georgette got a old book from an elderly gentleman-Jaco- it was filled with instructions for casting spells and mixing potions. Than the whole Palarosa ritual was described and there was even a map.
I really loved this book, It was an excellent read. It had twin sisters, murder, suspense, drugs, a beautiful resort, danger, murder, threats, a Palarosa ritual, theft, cheating, floozies, missing women, bones, action, mystery, intrigue, abduction, and so much more. There needed some editing done. But this had such a hold on me that it didn’t matter to me. I didn’t want to put this down and read it one setting. Even if I lost sleep. I loved the plot and pace. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.
