Goodreads Rating: 4 stars.

4.5 stars. Received digital copy, but just as awesome as a physical version! Pictures were adorable and the words were all funny. Lots of puns and snark throughout, which is always a plus for me. Any fan of the hashtag or animals in general should read this!

This amusing little book rates animals like Amazon users rate the products they buy. My favorite was the anteater, who was purchased for vacuuming duty, but lost a ratings star because it’s “nozzle” was not detachable. The book in no way demeans or belittles animals, to the contrary, it makes fun of humans and our desire to have everything in the world do our bidding

Warning: This book will put a smile in your face.
Nature is precious. We should live by that and not take anything for granted. I really like the idea behind the book and all the pictures/reviews. It would make a fantastic present for any animal lovel! Highly enjoyable read!

"Animals Reviewed" is a beautiful and funny book for kids of all ages. It was 'written' by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums through ratings and reviews of special animals they care for in their respective zoos and aquariums.

The photos used throughout the book are so beautiful and the "reviews" are creative, funny and interesting. There are lots of cool facts buried in the animal reviews that you might not know, making it an informational and educational book.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this by myself and look forward to sharing it with my kids too.

I received this eBook free of charge from Timber Press via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I did not receive any fiscal compensation from either company for this review and the opinions expressed herein are entirely my own.

5* Loved this! Loved the gorgeous pics and the witty comments.

There's a lot of thought, affection and love gone into this book. The pictures are awesome and the comments had me snorting. I'll be getting the paper copy of this, as it's something my husband would adore.

ARC courtesy of Timber Press and NetGalley, for my reading pleasure.

This book is hilarious. It's got some amazing pictures of beautiful animals. and it often reads like those hilarious TripAdvisor ratings you often see online. Plus, any book with a red panda as a cover star is good enough for me. A must have in any classroom, and a great addition to some early ecology lessons.

Review to come October on blog/Goodreads/Amazon.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I spotted this book on Netgalley and was cautiously enthusiastic. Rate an animal? This could go two ways, fun and hilarious or fun at first and than bland. Then I started reading it, and I even pulled in my fiance because I laughed myself silly at the first page. We continued reading this whenever we had time that evening.

We encounter many animals that all live in the zoo there. From tiny creatures to big creatures there is a great variety of animals that get rated. Some even get a special title on top of their review. Some are written with more thought while others seem like a review from Amazon. The reviews were really funny and very spot-on. Plus, I am happy that there was a variety in the star-ratings. Every star-rating popped up. From very good 5 stars to not so good 1 star.

Since I was reading this on my ADE there were parts that just had text and then on the next page you would see the animal. I am guessing that in the paper version you would immediately see the animal, but that wasn't always the case here. So my fiance and I had tons of fun guessing the animal based on the review. Often we knew within a sentence what the creature could be, other times we had to dig hard. :P It really added a fun factor to the book.

There was just one thing that was a nice add the first time, but became a bit less nice with each creature that is on the verge of extinction. I get it, they are dying out, do you need to mention it so many times? Couldn't you have put a bit more creativity in it/another spin to it?

Plus points to the fun way the book ended. We hadn't expected that but it fit perfectly.

All in all, looking for a funny book? Love animals? Love reviews? Try this one out. As for me, I am hoping there will be more books coming. I need more animal reviews!

I enjoyed this collection of funny tweets and cute animal pictures. You could just read them online, but the book would make a great gift for an animal lover.

I received an arc of this title from Netgalley for an honest review. I think kids will get a kick out of this book. The author has created a 5 star system to rate animals. Lots of funny pictures and informative too.

Thanks to NetGalley and Timber Books for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book. It is hysterical!
Great book for family fun! Play a game by reading the review and then have the kids guess what animal it is!
Everyone should get a copy to support the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

A funny collection of tweets from Zoos and aquariums around the world about some of their favorite animals. Written in the style of a "bad Amazon Review", some of these are funny because they're accurate, others because of intentional inaccuracy.
A quick and cute read about some amazing animals. Includes images of each of the "reviewed" animals. A great fundraiser for zoos and aquariums.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

An idea conjured by Shervin Hess of Oregon Zoo, and with the talents of others in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, this super cute book, full of bright and striking photos and punny tags for each #rateaspecies animal, is an excellent addition to any library.

I really enjoyed sharing it with my kids who are 9 and 11. It is hard to pick a favorite but if I had to.... it would be the Giant Pacific Octopus on pg 11 - it's rating reads: "OCTOMAZING - This waterproof model expands to cover large spaces; customizable coloring blends easily with any decor. Eight arms equipped with suction cups secure to any surface. Bonus: super-collapsible for easy storage." Just picture it. I laughed until I snorted!

I went into this read, expecting repetitive ratings, honestly who could rate these super cute animals less than 5 stars? I was pleasantly surprised by the range in ratings but was in that same note frustrated by the repetitive nature of it. This isn't the kind of book I would recommend to sit straight through and read, it's one to be enjoyed over time, something to pick up for a chuckle, and return to over and over again.

Bwahahahaha!

This awesome book, which hilariously reviews animals, yes really, is snark-on-a-stick and I loved every second of it! The amazing pictures are just a bonus.

Thank you to Timber Press and NetGalley for giving me this funny ARC in exchange for an honest review!

E-arc received from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is a completely adorable book that I could not put down. There are cute pictures of all the animals, and hilarious reviews on each from plays on their names or things about how they don't do what their name says. It also slyly puts some thought provoking things in as well though. Conservation is important, and without it, many other species would be extinct. I immediately preordered this and will be making my husband read it as well.

I love this book! It’s educational while being hilarious and the photos are excellent. It’s good for any age range, as even those too young to read will enjoy looking at the animals. I know I’ll be returning to it often when I need my mood lifted!

This is such an outstanding idea for a children's book that I had to laugh out loud. next I read it, then I wrote everyone I know and told them to read it. This could easily become a book that is in every home.

So, this is about the cutest book? I have ever seen? In my entire life?

I missed the fun on Twitter when it originally happened, but zookepers and educaters around American started tweeting, rating different animals as though it were a Yelp or Amazon review. This became a wildly popular trend, and so The Association of Zoos and Aquariums put this book together. And a percentage of the sales from the book go toward scientific research, conservation, and education programs.

There is literally no reason not to get this book. It is a book for animal lovers the world around, whether you're a fan of octopi (Super collapsible for easy storage), bats (Keeps bugs off even when wet; cordless), or birds (Not compatible with mouse).

Though there are several sweethearts through here that are "back ordered", "out of stock for years", or "running low". And I will admit to getting sad every time I saw this.

The pictures are beautiful, the captions are hysterical, and you can feel the love for these animals that each and every one of these people feels. It's delightful.

I loved this collection of animal images and little funny reviews. It was an entertaining read just perfect for my work commute. It will make a perfect gift for any youngster in your family who also happens to be an animal lover, but it would also be a lovely coffee table book for any other animal lover!

One suggestion though for future edition (no criticism intended, this is a good book on its own, just an idea!) - exactly because of so much efforts zoos make for conservation and care of rare (and not-so-rare also!) species from all around the world - it would be great if there would be a short (scientific or not, depending of the target audience) description and explanation of importance of each species imaged and reviewed. I just think that it would provide a fuller and deeper meaning for everyone involved.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book before its publication.

A very sweet and gentle humor book. Good for animal lovers and meme enthusiasts. The jokes don't land 100% of the time, but the good intentions of the authors outweigh any corniness. Plus the photos are adorable, of course.

Wonderful, cute book on animals

I loved the text - fake reviews of animals, Amazon.com style. They are funny and clever. I loved the photos. This is a great book for anyone. I strongly recommend it.

Adorable! I love all of the gorgeous pictures and the animal ratings are so funny and amusing. I showed this to my daughter who loves animals and has a great sense of humor. She thought it was the cutest thing and wants me to buy her a physical copy, so that she can giggle over the animal reviews again and again. This would definitely make a great gift. Delightful and fun. Highly recommended for all animal lovers who like a good laugh.

What a delightful book! Not only was it chock-full of adorable animal pictures, but it seamlessly blended that with a special brand of snark. In short, it was a wonderful match-up. Highly recommended to animal lovers, but even more specifically to animal lovers with a wicked sense of humor. Nothing offensive to be found here, unless you find puns or humorous misunderstandings to be offensive.

The premise to give animals reviews (a la Amazon) was brilliant. And the results are delightful. Instead of simply awarding 5 stars to animals that are cute or cool, the team of writers behind this endeavor managed to look at the critters from all sides. A yellow tang (which is a beautiful yellow fish) is confused for the powdered drink mix (and thus receives a disappointing 1 of 5 stars). Another reviewer is disappointed that their spiny dogfish doesn't fetch. And of course, there are the tapir owners who are "very happy with our rhino pig". If I wasn't reading this at work, I would have snort-laughed at that line!

All in all, a really fun book that I think readers will really enjoy. It was fun learning a little more about animals I wasn't as familiar with, such as the green iguana (apparently, they are mostly red-orange, not green!) and of course I enjoyed "discovering" critters that I had never heard of before, like the takin, described as "a combination of a goat and a moose". Sometimes, you just need something light and fun to read. And this is definitely that book.

Animals Reviewed: Starred Ratings of Our Feathered, Finned, and Furry Friends by American Zoo Association is a fun read, full of great pictures of cute animals, and lots of puns. It was enjoyable even on a black and white ereader, but would have been much better in full color. I think this book would be enjoyable for children and adults.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was adorable and, at times, laugh-out-loud funny. I thought the premise of the book was interesting. Zoo staff posting reviews of the animals in their zoos as one would review a product purchased online. This could really be fun!

I loved some of the puns and hilarious, witty reviews of the animals. For example, the turtle that comes with its own case and can even be dropped in water and still works perfectly. Haha. The accompanying photo is an adorable turtle hatchling.

Sure, some of the jokes are corny, but isn’t that the point? To have fun with it? It’s all tongue in cheek humor done for the good of animal conservation. This is not intended to be serious stuff. The proceeds from the book will be used for wildlife conservation purposes, so it’s for a good cause.

I loved the photos. Each one of the reviews has a photo of the animal. Some were super cute. Some were beautifully photographed. All were very interesting.

I was pleased to see my local zoo had contributed a bunch of reviews that were included in the book. (Shout out to the Sequoia Park Zoo in Eureka.)

Even though the reviews were for fun, many of them included some information about the animals or their ecology. There are some gems hidden in here if you know much about wildlife. I’ll leave that for you to find though. No spoilers. The zoo staff know their wildlife facts and some of them found ways to incorporate this into the review in a nice subtle way. I loved it.

The opossum review, for example, talks about how it has a handy pocket, then asks if the negative reviewers have heard about its benefits to the ecosystem. It also mentions the opossum’s 50 teeth and that it’s the only marsupial in North America.

Overall, I thought this was a super cute book. It is one that you will find yourself looking at over and over. It’s one of the fun ones you can leave on your coffee table for guests to read. I think it would be a great book for a veterinarian to place in their waiting room for people to read while waiting. Really fun, hilarious, and educational at the same time. I loved it!

When would you need Animals Reviewed? Before you hire two skunks as house protection, read the included 2-star review suggesting guard rabbits instead. If you need a CrossFit instructor, you could do worse than the 5-star rhinoceros described here.

Animals Reviewed is a perfect zoo or aquarium gift shop purchase. The photographs are excellent and highlight the quirky natures of some of the animals. They are clearly labeled with both the animal’s common and Latin name. Most of the reviews will make you smile. For example, a black bear is rated at 4 stars as a great value for size but mislabeled—they’re brown.

Overall, it’s a cute book to have to remember or anticipate a zoo or aquarium visit. 4 stars!

Thanks to Timber Press and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Animals Reviewed: Starred Ratings of Our Feathered, Finned, and Furry Friends by Association of Zoos and Aquariums is currently scheduled for release on October 29 2019. Launched by the Oregon Zoo and quickly picked up by zoos, aquariums, scientists, and the funny people of Twitter, #rateaspecies is a global, viral hit, and a chance for people to honestly—and hilariously—review the animal kingdom. This book has crowd-sourced 150 of the best entries, the majority of which are new to the book, from their 233-member zoos and aquariums. Packed with adorable photos of every animal and laced with wit and humor, Animals Reviewed is the perfect gift or self-purchase for animal lovers of all ages.

Animals Reviewed is a fun book that collects the rated reviews of various zoo animals. I liked that the jokes often included information about the animal, such as remarks about its limited availability or the place where it is made disappearing. These reminders about pending extinction and habitat destruction are funny, but reminding people so that they can join the efforts to stop such tragedy is important. I also learned about some animals I never heard of or saw in a zoo or even documentary before. I like that there was such a balance of giggles and information throughout the book, and that there was such a wide variety of creatures. I think animal lovers of all ages will enjoy this- and I think those that work with animals would particularly enjoy this as a gift.

Do you love animals? Enjoy a good laugh? If yes, buy this now! If no, BUY THIS NOW (you can thank me later for developing a sense of humor and love of animals)! What started out as a bit of fun on Twitter became an international sensation with various zoos, aquariums, aviaries, and other conservationists (even a butterfly house) rating various animals and tagging with hilarious captions and/or photos. It is impossible to get through this book without cracking a smile or collapsing into guffaws over some of these!

At least 5 of the zoos and acquariums I have visited and 1 is even in my home town so it was especially exciting to see photos and captions of the animals I’ve visited!

Some of my favorites: Spiny dogfish - Minus one star because he won’t play fetch. Shark - The “shark” I was expecting was for floor cleaning. The teeth are a little overwhelming at first, and suction is somewhat lacking on hardwood floors....Macaw- Instantly mesmerized by the brilliant feathers, but was startled when the bird started talking back!

If you love animals, support this book and enjoy yourself a good laugh and plenty of adorable animal pics!

What do you call a review of a book of reviews of animals? A meta-review? An ur-review? Eh, whatever you call it, I loved this book. You can't not love amusing reviews of adorable animals written by people who clearly love them. Definitely a feel-good book you need for when the sun sets at 4 PM.
