Description

Only divine intervention could have guided Jolena Leigh Michaelsson to the doorstep of a ramshackle manor in Pennsylvania, bringing her face-to-face with the man she has waited her whole life to find. There is just one problem. Mathias McGregor died two centuries ago-- Mathias, Revolutionary War ranger and spy, battles his conscience and his heart when he finds himself falling for the beautiful violinist invading his home. Jolena is mortal and deserves far more than what he as a spirit can offer her. When Jolena's family motto leads them to unearth a valuable coded message--the very message Mathias died trying to deliver to General Washington--Jolena vows to unravel the mystery surrounding the cryptic document. But someone else wants the message, and he'll stop at nothing to get it, not even murder. Divine intervention brought them together--will it also allow them to find forever?

I've just finished to read the last pages of "Spirit of the Revolution" and already miss the atmosphere, the setting, the characters. This is an enchanting story. The author, Debbie Peterson is a great narrator, mixing informative facts, mysteries, detective work, a love story and drama.. I've learnt a lot about facts that are not taught in history books about the Revolution and Scotland. Also, who has never wondered, sitting down, relaxing in a Chateau, by the end of the afternoon when the place starts to get empty of tourists, what would happen if a ghost would appear and talk ? I was always fascinated by the story of English tourists who thought to have spoken with people wearing costumes in the Versailles gardens, last century. But, nobody in fact was making a re enactment. Then, the story was depicted as fake news. But, what if ? The book plays with the idea, very successfully. The author, Debbie Peterson is a great narrator, mixing informative facts, mysteries, detective work, a love story and drama.

Who will absolutely adore this book? Well, besides American Revolutionary War reenactors and history geeks, there's those whose jobs make them need temporary escape from reality, those whose lives are so ultra busy that they need a brief escape, those who are too busy with everything to see the romance in their own lives, and anybody who likes a really well written story. This is not an unbiased review because we were American Revolutionary War reenactors until my husband's death and the rest of us are still history geeks, but it's such a good story! Suspend disbelief and meet a few of the men from Morgan's Rangers who did not survive the war but remain as ghosts in a home near where theirs were and the friendship and antics they share with the delightful violinist who has restored it.

This book reminds us that while it might be fun to read these stories, it couldn't have been very fun to live in the actual time (which is why I can not stand time travel stories that strand women in the past, where are the stories that bring a lady from that time and strand her in the present and watch her blossom with all the freedoms and opportunity she could have).

I loved this historical fiction, time slip, novel. I love books set in two time period with lovers out of time. It was a sweet read, and sometimes you just need a sweet read.
