Can love find a way to overcome hate?

When Frankie’s mother dies, she is sent to live with her Aunt Bet in Worthing, Sussex. Life on their farm is happy – for a while. But when World War Two breaks out, Frankie must help her country by signing up to the women’s branch of the British Army.

Soon, she meets Romare, an American doctor who has come to the UK after facing terrible racism at home. But trouble is stirring in Britain too, and it falls to Frankie to try to protect him. Can love triumph over a history of hate? Or will Frankie and Romare’s love pay the ultimate sacrifice?

A moving, thought-provoking story, perfect for fans of Katie Flynn and Maureen Lee.

Wow! From the very first pages I couldn't put this book down. A thrilling story set in WW2 with so many twists I never knew where the story would end up. A must for anyone who enjoy a fiction book set in the war.

This is the story of Frankie Sherwood aged ten enjoying her birthday party on Hillbarn near Worthing, a picnic organised by her mummy. Her mummy is a seamstress worked hard ,Frankie didn't remember her daddy he died when she was only a year old. The year is 1933 in Broadwater Essex, Frankie is so happy and treasures her dolly that was her last present for many years to come, arriving home from school her life is about to change, sent away to North Farm after her mummys death, she is taken in by her Aunt Bet, uncle Lorry and cousins Alan and Ronald, and they were going to make sure that she has a happy life ahead growing up. such an enchanting story, I found this book such a delight to read, it takes us through Frankie growing up and through a harrowing WW2. I loved every page and chapter I couldn't put it down. I highly recommend this book to all, it will definitely touch your heart.

Absolutely beautiful story. Lots of shocks and tears. Nevertheless this was a story beautifully told. Full of compassion. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it.

***Warning: this book contains upsetting detail about the prejudice against African people by Americans during WW2.***
What a brilliant and enthralling read. Pam Weaver’s new book is extremely well written and sympathetically told. I have read all her books and this is by far the best one. It was a real pleasure to review it. She has researched the subject well, and is not afraid to provide graphic detail about the hatred and contempt for black people during the last war. A must read.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. Sometimes it is really nice to read a good old fashioned story with great characters and makes you appreciate what you have in this modern world. Well worth a read.

This was another excellent read by Pam Weaver. I’ve read a lot of this authors books and have always enjoyed them and this one was no exception. From the first page I was hooked on this story and it held my interest all the way through. An easy but compelling read which I highly recommend.

A lovely book to read, I was interested as soon as I started it. It was a genre I love and I have read Pam Weaver’s books before so I knew what to expect. What I love about her books is that you can count on them to make you feel so much better when times are tough as they are for all of us at the moment. Although most of her books centre around the war it always seems to have a lighter side to her stories which is just what I want. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
