Description

In Evelyn Lozada and Holly Lorincz's lightly inspired Pride and Prejudice romantic comedy, two unlikely people discover the error of judging by first impressions and the beauty of family, friendship and love. This book will entice you through the last page.

Hara Isari has big ambitions and they won’t be sidetracked by her mother’s insisting that she settle down soon. She dreams of leaving her small-town newspaper behind, as well as her felon father, and building a career as a sports writer, so when she is chosen to exclusively interview a basketball superstar, she jumps at the chance. It’s time to show the bigwigs what she’s truly made of.

At the same time, she meets a rookie on the rise, Derek Darcy. Darcy is incredibly handsome, obnoxiously proud, and has a major chip on his shoulder. Hara can’t think of a man more arrogant and infuriating. However, fate keeps bringing them together—from locker rooms to elegant parties, to the storm of the century—and what begins as a clash might just be more complicated than Hara anticipated. When she begins to see Darcy in a new light, Hara is not quite sure if she should drop the ball or play the love game.

Five stars!
When Hara, an aspiring sports writer, wins a writing competition to interview a much sought-after professional basketball player she jumps at the chance. Charles, who isn't typically interviewed, is a real score for her and she hopes to break open a story on him despite the restrictions placed on her interview. However, Charles teammate and heartthrob, Derek, is instantly attracted to Hara...and the feeling is mutual. The story twists and turns through a storm (literally) of events....

Lozada and Lorincz have penned an edge of the seat action thriller of a romance. A pleasure to read a story about complex characters driven by their perceptions and seduced by others’ deceptions and transgressions. About small town a sportswriter, daughter of a convicted sports felon, and the game of basketball and it’s players, the story expertly blends the myths of sports figures with realistic humans seeking connection in a world where people are driven by suspicion of others’ motives.

I LOVED this book and it won’t be published until June 9, 2020. That’s the good and the bad news. This is a Pride and Prejudice retelling and that is my very favorite bookish romance sweet spot. Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book of all time and I am really enjoying the ways that modern authors, and especially authors of color, are reinterpreting the story of a strong woman and a proud man.

In this novel, Hara, the female protagonist is the daughter of an African American woman and a Japanese American man. Hara’s dad is in prison and has been in prison since she was a little girl. Hara has had to weather the judgment of her small town and the absence of her father in her day to day life. In spite of this she has maintained a loving bond with her dad, whom she visits regularly. She is also driven to achieve her dream of being a sportswriter in a male dominated field. When she wins a contest to interview one of the biggest NBA stars she is determined to make the most of the opportunity.

Derek Darcy grew up in wealth but his parents are cold and materialistic. His found family, in his teammate (Charles) and his mom, is his real family. When he and Hara first meet they immediately clash. He is suspicious of her because she is a reporter and she finds him rude and off putting. Soon enough though their mutual attraction becomes obvious to both.

This book contains themes of the intersectionality of race, class and gender. Hara struggles to be taken seriously as a reporter but struggles to push through extra obstacles because she is young, a person of color and female. Hara’s complicated but loving relationship with her dad is also challenged when she finds out that there is even more to the story of his crimes than she knew. Derek finds his relationship with Charles sorely tested as well as secrets come to light. Throw in a team owner that seems to have been modeled on Don Sterling and you have a fast paced and engrossing read.

The Wrong Mr. Darcy is a fascinating romantic comedy about two strong-minded individuals who realize that they have more in common than originally thought. The story is about love, friendship, and loyalty. It is page-turning and unputdownable.

The story follows Hara Isari, an aspiring sports writer, as she gets a huge break in her career. She gets the chance to interview on the NBA's most popular player. There are so many who are hoping she fails but she is ready and prepared to make the most of the opportunity.

When she meets Derek Darcy, an NBA rookie, she is thrown for a loop. Hara is attracted to him, but he is so standoffish. He can come across as rude and bratty.

They both make their judgments of each other based on their first impressions but realize that they shouldn't always judge a book by its cover. When they begin to spend more time together, they start to develop a sassy and witty bond.

I loved that Evelyn Lozada and Holly Lorincz gave us another strong heroine who perseveres through all the obstacles she faces. There is a slight nod to Pride and Prejudice with the theme of the main characters having differing opinions of each other as they get to know one another. I am such a fan of a sports romance and feel like Evelyn and Holly have found their sweet spot with this trope.

I give The Wrong Mr. Darcy 4 stars. It is a captivating romance with charming characters. This writing duo continues to impress me and I can't wait to read more from them.

This is a good beach read, with quotes from Pride and Prejudice for every chapter. Cute with a little mystery thrown in to keep it interesting.

I went into this book completely blind and not expecting anything and hoping for something completely different than just a few word plays on Pride and Prejudice. I was definitely not expecting a sports romance with a twist in this book that has wonderful quotes from the book of Pride and Prejudice in the chapter headings. This is a very unique take on the classic that I’ve never seen before and I loved it. I am a huge fan a of sports romances and this book follows a sports writer who is female that has won a contest to write an article after having an interview with the big basketball star Charles. I do not want to ruin any of this story cause it’s such an intriguing one with lots of twists and turns. I can say this book had me guessing how it would go the whole time. I really loved how the characters work together and build their trust in each other. Great book.

This frothy and fun romance has lots of drama, some very handsome men and basketball. Hara is determined to prove that she has what it takes to be a sports writer, a woman in a man’s world, but her father’s reputation often preceded her and makes it difficult. That all changes when she gets her big break but from there things get more and more complicated! A fun, quick read!

I requested this book to read and review for free from St. Martin publishing group. This is first book I have read by authors Evelyn Lozada and Holly Lorincz. This book plot line is pride and prejudice meets the god father. You will be kept guessing until the end. And just when you think you know what's going on a curve ball is thrown in. And some things are not what they seem and some ideas Aare. You will cheer on characters Derek and Hara and Naomi. This book is for the young adult or adult reader.

Ms. Eva is on to something writing this sports romances.
The Wrong Mr. Darcy was a sweet story of a reporter cutting her teeth on a big story and unearthing a story bigger than the one she went in for.

Great beach read! I love modern re-tellings of Jane Austen's classics and The Wrong Mr. Darcy told this story with a brand new angle of Pride & Prejudice where a journalist falls in love with an NBA star despite her desire to avoid him at all costs. This fun rom com is an easy entertaining quick read that you'll breeze through quickly. Fans of re-tellings of any of Jane Austen's work will enjoy comparing this take on the tale to the original and others like Eligible, etc.

Received an ARC from netgalley for an honest opinion and review. Hara is a reporter from a small town in Oregon who wins a writing competition and as her prize gets to interview a big time NBA basketball player. What she doesn't know is that her world will be turned upside down and there is always more to the story than you think. Great book and highly suggest reading!
