The cover doesn't do this book justice. It showcases 85 really gorgeous fineliner pieces of all kinds, with each piece taking up one page and the facing page briefly talking about what the artist has done and providing a little tip about that particular method.

The designs are incredibly diverse, and many are just breathtaking. This isn't a how-to book for beginners but is a fantastic inspiration book and will also give you lots of tools to better your craft. The end section goes into materials and basics a bit. There's also a visual index at the start so you can quickly find the piece you want to look at.

My two oldest kids (20 and 21) both are fineliner artists with totally different styles but I can see both of them loving the pieces in this book. Highly recommended.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

A show of many fineliner ink drawings, some very interesting and/or beautiful, with a very short and not too helpful drawing tip for each In my opinion it is not useful for a beginner, though it might be inspiring for intermediate inking artist. There are no any closeups on the drawings, not any illustration how the strokes were made. The visual summary with the miniatures of the drawings is a good idea.

This book has excellent art styles and tips which can help you fine tune your drawing style to the way you prefer. I very much enjoyed checking this book out. I am glad I seen it and was able to give it an honest review.

An extremely creative way to have one learn more about fineliner art, each “tip” is accompanied by a piece of art that illustrates a technique that encompasses it.

I’d love to be more artistic and am always drawn to art books. However, they can often be more daunting than inspirational, either through fantastic skill or ‘complicated’ and/or expensive materials. Fineliner pens, however, are something I already own. I might still feel a little daunted about the skills on display, but that’s aspirational!

That said, the art here does cover the ‘wow, never in a million years’ through to ‘hmm, maybe with a bit of practice’ – which is perfect. Huge plus: it all starts with a ‘visual index’ – thumbnails of all the images from the book, making it really easy to find specific drawings, as well as just being quite the ‘wow’ page seeing all the talent on display from 34 different artists.

Each picture in the main section gets a double spread, and is accompanied by a brief description, highlighting a particular technique used in that drawing, and a ‘tip’ to encourage you to try it yourself. To be honest, I found the descriptions a little odd sometimes, as if the author had written them after looking at the piece, rather than getting information from the artist. Certainly, the discussion on his own work sounds a lot deeper and more confident – perhaps only to be expected.

The book ends with the almost obligatory section on materials, plus a list of further resources. It’s not surprising to see a link to Jake Parker’s Inktober website: the whole book feels strongly linked to the whole Inktober challenge. So if you are feeling inspired to pick up a fineliner, perhaps you’d also like to join this year’s online challenges.

Overall: visually lovely, with a range of useful tips. One to dip in and out of for inspiration.

Just Draw Fineliner Art is an artwork collection and gallery book curated by Liam Carver. Due out 3rd March 2020 from Quarto on their White Lion imprint, it's 208 pages and will be available in flexibound format.

This is both an inspiration book and (less so) tutorial or instruction book. It covers a very wide range of artistic styles and subjects. The only common theme is the medium used. It includes a helpful picture gallery table of contents as well as an artist index, so readers can concentrate on one artist at a time or the entire smorgasbord of variety which is included.

A short introduction is followed by the gallery of works. Each of the studies has the work on a full page with a *short* info and tips section on the facing page. These explanations include techniques such as providing vertical contrast by leaving parallel lines of negative space between drawn lines to give the impression of height and depth to tree trunks or other vertical subjects. The info pages also include the dimensions (in cm.) of the original work as well as the paper used.

The gallery is followed by a short fundamental tutorial for fineliner art: choosing tools and materials, getting started, and working digitally. The tutorial chapter segues into a short (but fairly useful) bibliography and links for further reading.

This is a well done book showing a very wide variety of rendering techniques. This would be a valuable resource for a student of pen and ink, or as a beautiful art book in its own right.

As an artist newly introduced to pen and ink drawing I was excited for this book as a way to improve my skills and learn some new techniques.

The book claims to be a combination of visual inspiration and technique, but I personally felt there was more of the former than the latter.

The book essentially comprises a series of ink illustrations by a number of different artists. There is a little write- up about each piece, with details of the paper used although not the pen size or brand. Although each page has a 'tip' on how to achieve some aspect of the drawing.it does not offer a 'how to' guide or step by step instructions on any of the techniques used.

The illustrations featured are organised by technique (hatching, stippling etc), but there is no explanation of how to do these techniques if you are new to the subject, or even how to create the different effects.

This book is visually beautiful and I will try to recreate some of the artworks here as the artists are inspirational.

As the book promises it is visually inspirational but won't be particularly useful for a beginner in the medium.

Wonderful book with fabulous artwork worked with Fineliner. Each piece is allocated a page, whilst the opposite page gives a clear description of the work, and the main elements in it, with some short tips if one wants to try something similar. The artwork flows from Line, to Hatching, Stippling and lastly mixed media, which maybe digital or watercolour or the like. Some of the designs are outstanding, and I particularly loved some of the hatching which were really finely worked.

Just Draw Fineliner Art: Incredible Illustrations Crafted With Fineliner Pens by Liam Carver presents a collection of more than 85 beautiful blackwork images by contemporary artists from around the world. It is currently scheduled for release on March 3 2020. Readers can browse the book for advice or inspiration. Each image is accompanied by a short introduction, information on the approaches, techniques and tools used, and useful tips. Learn about stippling and hatching to produce immensely detailed drawings. This is the perfect guide for artists and art lovers alike.

Just Draw Fineliner Art might just be a thinly veiled advertisement for their products at first, but it can also be a solid resource for inspiration and technique. I have never been more than an amatur artist, someone that doodles for fun and has had no formal art education past some advanced high school courses. I enjoyed looking at the art, reading a bit about the tools and techniques used to create them, and might just pull out some of my art supplies to test my muscle memory and skills to see how much I remember and can still pull off. I did find some of the 'tips' to be things I still remember from those high school classes, which are farther away that I might like to admit. Other tips and challenges offered by them were more unique and had my full attention. I did like the information about the artist and how they achieved the look in each piece. Like any other collection of images or other art there will always be favorites and pieces that speak to us less. That is the case here as well, but each piece does show skill that I could fully appreciate while some just had me staring at an individual piece for a good length of time. I do appreciate that at the end of the book the is the recommendation to explore different brands of pens, and information on a variety of tools and mediums that any artist might want to try in the effort to find what works best for them. There are also resources for further information and an index of artists, so you can see if the artist of your favorite piece in the book has more that you might want to give attention to as well.

Fineliner is an art form that covers drawing by use of special pencils which draw out great effects from use of black and white colors.
Book is collection of large number of examples from artists around the world and on each art, teaches one particular skill or tip about fineliner art.
It is very useful.
It starts from simple skill and then advances with pages.
A very good introduction to this form of art which has broad appeal and wide potential.
Thanks netgalley and Quarto publishers for another great book.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

This is a stunning book of fine liner art that just oozes inspiration for artists and art lovers throughout every page of the book.
This is not a book for beginners as it is quite advanced in its content. This book is not a step by step guide, hence why it's not the best book for beginners, but it is very detailed and has lots of tips throughout relating to different pieces of fine liner art.
This book will encapture you and gran your attention throughout, however I do feel the cover does not do this book any justice and could be much better.

Really diverse collection of inspirational artworks with small pointers to what methods the artist used in each one! Excellent for beginners or seasoned artists alike to introduce new tools and ideas.

This is great for someone like me who hasn’t got 'the eye’ when it comes to drawing and knowing where to start. I can copy and trace things but it’s that initial idea or feeling like I can capture something properly and neatly. This was really helpful!
