Description
His father threw it all away on the wrong side of a failed rebellion.
A university scholarship offers a golden chance for seventeen-year-old Sebastien Ochoa to lead his family out of exile in the southern mountains.
Until a brutal attack on a peaceful march drives Sebastien into the guerrilla army that defies the tyrant who rules his Caribbean homeland.
His family disowns him. Murderous rivalries within the revolutionary movement test Sebastien’s loyalties, but there’s no going back when one of the dictator’s most sadistic military commanders executes the mother of the woman he loves.
The First Guerrilla, a stand-alone story, is book one in a three-part series set in the 1950s.
This book is written with British/Australian spelling and grammar.

I'd enjoyed Beach's romance so I thought I'd check this out. So glad I did--I like this one even better! The hero is likable--fun to read about a young man finding his way rather than a Jack Reacher automaton, and the female characters are real, individual people, rather than Women To Be Saved. This one's in the Caribbean rather than Australia, but the sense of place is vivid and realistic. Though it's part of a series, apparently, it doesn't end on a cliffhanger, so it's a satisfying read on its own.
