This was a cute take on We're Going on a Bear Hunt. It would be a great addition for any children's librarian who frequently does story hours. It would also be a great addition for any preschool teacher's library.

What a great little story for kids of any age. Beautifully written and the illustrations are just wonderful. I can wait to purchase a copy and have it in my preschool classroom this fall.

As a Youth Services Librarian, I'm always on the hunt for good holiday books. It's amazing how difficult it is to find quality Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Valentine's Day books (don't even get me started on Groundhog Day).

I liked this book a lot. It's in the style of "We're Going on a Bear Hunt," and the illustrations felt reminiscent, but not derivative, of Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury's version. I love the woodland creatures, the journey, and the scary pumpkin at the end! I especially like the cozy ending after their adventure. This would be a good, gentle book for your crowds who don't like super-scary Halloween stories.

The only thing I didn't like about this book was the font used in the body text. It seemed disjoined or disconnected from the illustrations. Like throwing Comic Sans on a David Weisner book. The font and illustrations just didn't match, in my opinion.

Thanks to Net Galley for a free copy for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in return for an honest review. It’s a cute Halloweenish version of We’re Going on a Beat Hunt. The book features the cutest creatures who go searching through the night for a pumpkin and get a surprise causing them to retrace their steps back home. Young readers will enjoy acting the movement parts of the story out.

This was a cute story and the pictures are well done. I do believe the hardback book would be a great addition to our library.

We're Going on a Pumpkin Hunt by Mary Hogan Wilcox is a sweet Halloween/ fall tale in the style of Michael Rosen's We're Going on a Bear Hunt. The illustrations by Lynn Munsinger are absolutely adorable. It tells the story of a menagerie of animals who are in search of the perfect pumpkin, I think this would be an excellent story for read aloud time for elementary school teachers who are always in search of new holiday story books,

This a very sweet Halloween take-off of "We're going on a Bear Hunt" The illustrations are fun, there's lots for kids to look at and talk about, and the vocabulary in the story is perfect for October themes in a preschool classroom.
Kids who love "We're going on a Bear Hunt" will enjoy this book!

I have always been a fan of the finger play Let’s Go on a Bear Hunt. In this book that favorite play has a twisted in a very delightful way. I can see this as something I would read in my story time. Such fun!

I received an electronic ARC from Charlesbridge through NetGalley.
Clever take on the Bear Hunt. The forest animals go on a pumpkin hunt to find the biggest one they can locate. They are daring and brave as they confront obstacles - tall grass, trees, rivers, until they make it to the pumpkin patch. As you would predict, they find a big scary jack-o-lantern and race home through the obstacles. However, in the end, they still find a warm, delicious smelling round pumpkin pie.
Wilcox uses her chosen rhyme scheme well to draw readers in and make them part of the action as the friends seek their large pumpkin.
Lynn Munsinger brings the characters to life with her clever facial expressions and illustrations of the scenes as they go on their pumpkin hunt. Each is a unique individual and part of the group too.
This will be a great read aloud for the fall.

"We're Going on a Pumpkin Hunt" is a cute take on the classic "We're Going on a Bear Hunt." I love holiday inspired books and this one I would recommend. The adorable woodland creatures and illustrations are highlights to the story along with the cute ending. If I was using this book in a preschool or kindergarten classroom I would do a compare and contrast activity with this story and the classic.

Thank you NetGalley and Charlesbridge Publishing for my digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

A really cute book following animal friends looking for a pumpkin. The friends are helping each other out. A book for fall/Halloween - but can be good any time of the year.

I read this with my daughter and she just loved it. Cute illustrations and great read-aloud story (loved that it mimics the classic "We Are Going on a Bear Hunt'), this is a fun Halloween story to share with young ones that isn't too spooky.

A fun Halloween twist on the beloved American folk song, written in a rhythmic verse and illustrated with contemplative watercolors.. A tricky Halloween twist that’s a treat to read!

As a children's Librarian, I LOVE finding interactive books like this for storytime. My one criticism of this otherwise fabulous tale is that it doesn't have that same brilliant beat that "Going on a Bear Hunt" has. With Bear Hunt, I can get the kids to pat their legs while I stamp my feet in time with the reading. This one doesn't have that same flow.

Nonetheless! The illustrations are still adorable with wonderful details worked into each page. I also love the picture of the big surprise! It's perfectly spooky and I can see kids having a lot of fun with the reveal. But what makes this work extra special and reserves it's own spot in the Hall of Going on a ______ Hunt is the brilliant twist at the end. I'm not going to spoil it but it doesn't end in the traditional way other similar works do which I love. Kids will have a fun time going on the journey and will end the work with a great, feel-good ending! A must-have for all libraries and schools!

We’re Going on a Pumpkin Hunt written by Mary Hogan Wilcox with art by Lynn Munsinger is a great and quick Halloween picture book. Your little readers will set off with some cute animals on a spooky but fun adventure to find the biggest pumpkin they can!

Six adorable little animals of different species head out into the night on a pumpkin hunt. Together, they face many things including night bugs, tall grasses, a tree, a river, and finally, a spooky pumpkin patch. There are scary moments but it’s all part of the big adventure! The friends are courageous and brave in each other’s company. The story ends happily with a fun twist for our little furry friends.

This is a great and fun Halloween book! The writing and the art wonderfully represent the spooky fun of the season. The storyline is very easy-to-follow, and I like the light humour. I love Wilcox’s simple, catchy, and easy-to-read rhyming narrative. It’s a wonderful treat to read out loud!

I really like Munsinger’s cheerful, brightly-coloured, and detailed art. The animals have cute, distinct, and expressive faces. I especially like their adorable and simple homemade costumes which add such a lovely touch to the visuals.

This book is a great and easy Halloween read for young readers. I can’t wait to see more seasonal fun from Wilcox and Munsinger!

Adorable illustrations and cute story for fall. I'm looking forward to incorporating this story into my fall curriculum. The entire story has a fun, upbeat vibe. It has great teaching points for children. For example, that it's okay to be scared. I think elementary aged kids will really enjoy reading.

We're Going on a Pumpkin Hunt by Mary Hogan Wilcox is a fun Halloween/Autumn picture book based on the song, "Going on a Bear Hunt". I read this one with my grandkids and they both enjoyed it. Six animals set off into the night to find a big pumpkin. Along the way the deal with bugs, climb a hill, traverse tall grass, a tree and a river, until they reach the spooky pumpkin patch. Constantly reassuring each other that they are not afraid, they are brave and face all that they encounter. Of course, there is a happy and fun ending. Illustrations by Lynn Munsinger are a great addition to this book. They are vibrant and detailed with the animals have wonderful facial expressions. They are even wearing adorable costumes. The first time we read this one, I read it and answered the kids' questions, the second time, we tried singing it using the echo method. This was a quick and fun book that I know we will read again. I will be purchasing a copy of this one for our home library and I recommend it to schools, especially primary class libraries.
