Description

SOMETIMES THE PAIN OF LIFE BRINGS A NEW BEGINNING...

Widower Dominic Dunn isn’t sure what to think of his wife’s pre-planned trip for him a year after her death. It’s her effort to force him from his work desk to the coast and the peacefulness she’d found at the Carolina Cove Inn.

Innkeeper Ireland Cohen is a single mom with an impressionable son, and after the kid gets himself into trouble, Dominic offers to lend a hand. It’s the least he can do when Ireland was such a good friend to his wife after her diagnosis.

As the hot summer days at the beach turn into breezy evenings, Ireland and Dominic find their shared memories and friendship turning into more. They’re drawn to each other, fighting an attraction neither of them want because of their pasts.

He’s only visiting, and Ireland has a strict rule about dating tourists. But as his trip draws to a close, they both wonder—is this their last goodbye?

The Last Goodbye is the first book in a five book series set along North Carolina's beautiful Wilmington coast.

My first read by Kay Lyons filled me with sadness, a wistful kind of happiness and the deep-seated hope that good people really do get second chances at love. Nothing can break a person’s spirit like the loss of their forever love but fulfilling a promise and encountering the innocence of an abandoned child, may ultimately lead to a new beginning and a second chance at living. This is a deeply emotional story, but it flows so effortlessly that you become easily caught up in the highs and lows of this emotionally guarded couple and the understandable reluctance to open their hearts for a second time, and risk potential pain and disappointment. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more about the enchanting Cohen sisters.

I enjoyed this sweet and well-written story by new to me author Kay Lyons. The Last Goodbye takes place on the coastal side of North Carolina. In the summer, the area is flooded with tourists and during the off season the locals get to relax a bit.

Ireland Cohen is a single mom and an innkeeper. Her ex did quite a number on her, so she is very cautious about getting involved again. Then Dominic Dunn walks into her life and all bets are off. Dominic is a widower and has two grown children. His wife Lisa passed away about a year ago. She loved the coast and the Carolina Cove Inn. Before she died, she planned an all expense paid trip for Dominic to her favorite inn. Lisa knew he would still be grieving, and was hopeful that her friend Ireland and the ocean could bring him out of his sadness. In a very short time, Ireland and Dominic develop feelings for each other and decide to embark on a relationship.

I liked this book and all the characters in it. Ireland and her sisters are a fun bunch and they each are terrific in their own right. I enjoyed their camaraderie and the way they challenged each other. Dominic is a true romantic and his thoughtfulness was brilliant. This is the first book from the Seaside Sisters series and it can be read as a standalone.
