This book is actually like the bible for embroidery. I wanted to learn embroidery and that is why I requested this book. I was full of colourful pictures of embroidery flowers. I loved each and every design in this book. Also, the step by step teaching method was good. In short, this is a must read book even for those who are expert in embroidery and I totally recommend it.

Plant Lady Embroidery: 300 Botanical Embroidery Motifs & Designs to Stitch is a reproduction of a Japanese book that was published by E&G Creates Company Limited. It has been translated to English. As the title indicates, it provides many beautiful embroidery motifs for stitching.

The first section has full-color photos of the motifs stitched by each designer with the name of the plant beside the photo. Use the pattern number by the photo to find the pattern inside the book.
Most of the book has the pattern. On the left side the directions show which stitch to use while the right side shows the clean pattern without words or markings.

I really like the designs in this book and you will be seeing many of these designs in my quote quilt.

I would have liked the color photo closer to the motif, as I find the digital copy cumbersome to move back and forth from the front of the book to the back. It might just be my computer that made scrolling so slow. Even with a physical copy, though, it would be better to have the color copy closer to the pattern. Color makes such a big difference. I found some designs that made me go back to the color to see what it looked like so I was flipping back and forth several times to get the full understanding of the design.

Plant lady embroidery by applemints is an amazing book full of beautiful embroidery work. This book is full of different flowers, plants, and herbs. The book gives you material list and tools needed and then has a section on getting started. I found the stitch guide very helpful and loved that each step had a real life photo example. Anyone who loves embroidery work will love this book!

This is a lovely guide to embroidery with great patterns that are easy to follow. The instructions are clear and concise. I can't wait to try them out!

A wonderful collection of gorgeous embroidery designs with practical and comprehensive instructions covering stitches for each motif and clear templates for transferring the patterns onto fabric. A great resource for those interested in embroidery.

This book is full of outlines and instructions for stitching 300 flowers and other plants using embroidery on fabric.

The opening section of the book shows each design stitched in color. This is followed by a section on materials and tools. Because the book was originally published in Japan, Olympus floss was used. Because this thread is uncommon outside Japan, a helpful table to convert to DMC is included.

Following this is the meat of the book, with a two-page spread for each group of 7-10 motifs. The motifs are numbered, matching them back to the color plates. On the left pages there are stitch maps that indicate thread colors and stitches. On the right are the designs for transfer.

A gallery of inspirational projects is also included.

It's an excellent book for embroiderers.

Beautiful book which will suit the beginner and the experienced alike. The book has clear step by instep instructions for every embroidery stitch neeed. There a many different flower designs with deatiled instructions. My particular favourites are Numbers 7 &11 trailing roses, 28 Madvallia, 32 chysanthium, 75 trailing ice plant, 92 poppy,118 Dahlia and the larger 283 Water Gaerden project.
Step by step instuuctions are given in how to transfer the pictures onto the fabric to be emboidered. there are also a selection of project ideas e.g. adding flower detail to a blouse.
I feel the book would have beenfited if it had iron on transfers of some of the flowers, as this would have been easier for young people starting out in embroidery. However, it is much more ecconomical to use tracing paper and dressmakers markers.

A beautiful book, with lots of inspiration and pretty images. Well presented and easy to follow, for you to make your own. I particularly like the project inspiration gallery, I thought this was a nice idea., although I would have liked to have seen more.

The step by step instructions are well illustrated and easy to follow, unlike some I have come across. This has inspired me to pick up embroidery again.

Embroidery books that double as botany references are, apparently, my jam- and this book fits that category perfectly!

The pictures of completed embroidery are beautiful and wonderfully labeled. This part will be seductive for needle-artists and plant-lovers alike.

The introduction to the embroidery skills needed for the pattern is well written and helpfully illustrated. I especially liked the chart showing the finished difference between one, two and three strands of floss used with basic stitches. This really helps in visualizing how to use the floss to create your desired effect.

The functional patterns that comprise the rest of the book are set up in a really good set of doubles for each image. Once set sets you up with your colors (a good brand conversion chart is even included), the stitches you will need and notes any special techniques with directions. The other set is clean, clear copies of the images, perfect for transfers.

This one is definitely going on my wishlist for the library’s “700s” shelf.

This is a lovely little book of embroidery patterns, designed and embroidered by several different artists. While fairly similar - they're all realistic depictions of different plants, from roses to foliage to succulents - their styles differ slightly, which is nice.
The instructions are in the second half of the book, where each page is reproduced twice - once with line drawings alone, to be copied and transferred to projects and once with line drawings accompanied by short lists of which stick to use on each part, how many strands of floss to use where, and the color of floss used.

I would've liked to have seen more finished projects which included the patterns, but that's just me.
Overall, a good resource.

This book was filled with great pictures, cute inspirations/ideas and easy to follow directions. As someone who has never tried embroidery but has always been interested, I feel like this book will help me find a project and teach me how to complete it confidently. There are some truly beautiful designs in this book.

This is a nice compilation of patterns for flowers, fruits, houseplants, etc. to embroider, with color illustrations of them first as embroidered designs and then with line drawings showing their basic shapes with info on stitches to use later in the book. They are grouped by categories, like cacti, wildflowers, fruits, etc. They tend towards very detailed. The leaf shapes and other ID characteristics are generally very authentic, although the leaf shape of clover seems wrong (clover leaves are actually oval and not the heart shape that is so popular in clover and St. Patrick's Day designs, which is more like the look of wood sorrel). I appreciated the wildflower and mushroom designs especially, though I wish there were far more since those are my particular loves.

All in all, this is a lovely book with a nice assortment of beautiful botanical designs and also sweet little potted plants and such. The retail price $21.95 seems a little high for a book that has so much similar competition, but it's a wonderful resource.

What a lovely book! As someone who stitches a good deal, I can appreciate the information provided. There is a great thread conversion chart at the back of the book. Also, the author provides a concise and very useful section for those just starting out. The embroidery themes are lovely which bright, easy to see and understand photographs. I can't wait to stitch some of these pretty images.

As a beginner in the embroidery world and a lover of all green things, I can say without blushing that I loved, loved, loved this book (and that it helped me a lot). Not only does it explain what you'll need to begin et how to begin, it also has beautiful designs and helpful step-by-step instructions. I’m a slow learner (and an impatient one at that) and am glad I read this book, as I could follow the tutorials quite easily and was quite pleased with my piece when I was done.

I loved the design and simplicity of the book, specially the cactus designs were awesome. The instructions were clear and easy to follow for beginners like me. The only thing i didn't like was some of the designs that seemed distorted and a bit off, like the car in the English Garden. But overall it's a cute and lovely book for nature lovers.

Some craft books, when you look at the finished project ideas, you just have to say, "Wow!" This is one of those books. The embroidery patterns are lovely. My favorite part is that you can do them more simply and have them look just as awesome. A great addition to any nature and embroidery lover's collection!

This book had a lovely collection of really nice designs for embroidery as well as simple, clear, easy to follow instructions for how to create them at home. The pictures were beautiful and varied, and really helpfully broken down into categories such as roses, fruit trees, orchids, etc. as well as sections breaking down flowers by season, which is handy for seasonal designers.

A lovely book on the embroidery of all thinks garden from flowers, plants, herbs, fruit, mushrooms and succulents including cacti, which are my favorites. Starting of with fulll colour embroidery pictures, followed by stitching instructions and a small gallery of projects, and ending with traceable images which can be used as is or enlarged to suit all needs. It is a easy to follow book, with lovely designs which can be used in many ways.
A good book for both the beginner or the experienced.

This is a wonderful book full of simple and also advanced designs. I particularly like the Cacti and Succulent section. They are very unique. Also, the Water Garden design is very beautiful. The simple designs are perfect for adding that little something special to gifts or to brighten your own items.

The book has an excellent section on the supplies needed and "how-to" instructions for crafters. This book is AMAZING and I'd recommend it to people brand new to embroidery, those interested in branching out from cross-stitching, and those who are experienced and just want some new designs to try out. The beginning of the book shows full-color images of each completed design, followed by an "inspiration gallery" showing practical and decorative uses for the embroidery. There is a section about tools and materials, then a fairly long section with instructions on embroidery overall and specific techniques. The rest of the book has the patterns. On each spread, there is a note of which page the full-color images are found on and the motifs are numbered for reference. The left and right pages show the same set of motifs in black-and-white outlines and some shading, with the lefthand side including notes/tips/commentary and the right side just showing the line drawing to use for transfer. I will definitely get a lot of use out of this book!!

This book was brilliant - I've been cross-stitching for a year or so and embroidery is always something I've been interested in however I've not even thought about it since I was in high school and was 15, so 10 years ago and when I saw this I knew I just had to request it!

It contains a full introduction at the start of the book on tools and materials you need, transferring designs, using your embroidery flosse and the different stitches you can use. It also has pictures on how to perform the basic stitches and a thread conversion chart which is all super useful to have in the book. It has the patterns on one pages and then the patterns with all the colours and stitches needed to embroider the pattern on another page which is great.

I mainly enjoyed the herbs, wildflowers & mushrooms, cacti & succulents pages and foliage plants pages and can see myself using these on a regular basis! There are a broad range of designs in this book with big pieces and single flowers and leaves which I find perfect as you can start with the smaller and therefore easier pieces and then work your way up. I imagine you could even join together some of the smaller pieces to make a bigger piece and use the stitches mentioned in the front of the book to help connect them.

Overall I think this is a fantastic book if you're looking at starting embroidery or simply want more ideas!

The first half of the book is comprised of colorful pictures of the several small floral motifs designed by several Japanese artists. The styles range from realistic to more cartoonish (with heavy outlines) and the subjects include flowers, bushes, vines, insects, mushrooms, and cacti. The second half of the book starts with an introduction to the stitches used and is followed by black and white reproductions of each design with stitches noted and without for copying.

The variety and detail in the photos and accompanying charts are attractive and small. Great for collections wanting to include embroidery books with quick designs.

More experience could lead to switch colors out or combining the designs into a singular design or sampler.

With 300 different plant motifs, this book has it all. Not just flowers but also herbs, trees, succulents, etc. (frequently I find that books mistakenly use the word "plant" when they mean "floral", and it's often frustrating, so I was thrilled to not find that was the case with this book). Also easy to follow instructions on how to use the book.

What a fun book! I loved the many different plant and flower embroidery designs that were included in this book. It seemed like there was enough information that a beginner would find the help they needed to start up a new hobby. The variety of designs would make this a great book for someone more experienced as well. Great inspirational book with good helps along the way.

This book is full of beautiful embroidery inspiration. The layout of the book was super easy to follow and I appreciated them including a colour conversion chart in case you don't happen to have the exact brand of embroidery floss that they use in the book. This is definitely a great reference book to have for anyone who is looking to dive more into embroidery. There are just so many different ways to embroider flowers and plants!

I don't know if I would recommend this book to someone who is starting how in embroidery because the book doesn't focus heavily on the "how-to" but it does a pretty good job laying out instructions on how to do the different stitches they use to create the motifs. To me, this feels more like a book that would be beneficial for someone who has even a little bit of experience embroidering.

Overall, this book was sweet and the designs were really pretty. I'll definitely be trying out a bunch of the floral motifs!

This beautiful book has 300 different plant motifs everything from herbs, flowers, tress and succulents. The variety of designs should inspire all embroidery enthusiasts from beginners to the more experienced.

The section for beginners is very useful and overall the designs and colourful photography are very inspirational. My preference when embroidering is more simple designs but this book can be easily adapted to all lovers of embroidery whatever your style preference.

This artful book is more than just a creative source for embroidery stitches...it is a treasure of beautiful pages to explore and enjoy. The embroidery stitches are well organized and easy to understand and follow. I love that the variety of floral patterns is so diverse... not the usual floral embroidery that one finds in other pattern books. I honestly fell in love with the photos and my mind is filled with so may possibilities and ways that I could use these patterns to embellish my creations. A delightful book of botanical designs for the embroidery enthusiast. Create colorful flower branches, an English garden, wildflowers and mushrooms on aprons, shirts, and fabrics used around the home. Not only can embroidered designs be used for embellishment and decorative purposes but it also provides interest to fabric repairs, tears in well-worn tops and pants that you just can’t throw away.

I like the Tools and Materials section which talks about types of embroidery floss; embroidery needles; fabrics and hoops and the Getting Started section shows you how to transfer the designs and make knots. Best of all, there is a stitch guide which shows you how to create each stitch used in every design in the book. You will become inspired by simply flipping through the pages.

There are some really cute designs in this book for both the traditional stitcher and the more modern plant lover. The first few pages struck me as fairly traditional images, flowers that you might see on older pillows or curtains. If that was all there was, this would still be a good place to start when picking something flowery to embroider. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that later pages included images of people, garden scenes and animals. As a crazy plant lady myself, I appreciated the inclusion of several plants I own and see on instagram such as philodendrons, monsteras and spider plants. There is a bit of introduction on how to attempt the stitches for beginners, but nothing too involved. Many of the images have the ability to look good even left unfilled, so if an image seems too daunting, some popular plants like philodendrons are depicted with just the leaf outlines. If you love plants and want a take on both their traditional stitched depictions and a modern approach, this book strikes a good balance of both.

Plant Lady Embroidery has 300 patterns for flowers, leaves, gardening tools, landscapes, and more. The photos are lovely and the designs are a nice mix of whimsical and realistic. There is a section of project ideas for putting the designs to use on household items, accessories, and clothing.

The instructions section is detailed and easy to understand and I believe it is clear enough for beginners. The individual patterns are labeled with the stitches used in each portion of the design and seems easy to follow.

I would recommend this book for someone who is learning embroidery or for an experienced embroiderer who would like a library of designs to choose from and a clear set of instructions to refer to when needing a refresher on techniques.

It's an inspiring collection. Just don't know if my stitching will look as flawless as the work shown here.

I picked up Plant Lady Embroidery with a view to trying something new, and perhaps relaxing, whilst in lockdown during the Covid-19 outbreak. As an embroidery novice I was lured into this world of pretty threads by the delightful and colourful plant and flower motifs (perhaps an unconscious reaction to not being able to be outside so much), photographs of which fill the first third or so of the book. The array of beautiful photos of completed designs are followed by some suggestions of where to use them (for example to embellish clothing, or to create brooches), before the crucial section for me - how to do the actual embroidery. For the most part this was extremely clear, though for one or two basic instructions I had to resort to YouTube to find alternative explanations where the static photos had left me a little puzzled.
That said, the templates at the back of the book, in conjunction with the matching photos were easy to follow and I then spent a happy 2 hours lost in embroidering my first flowers. I quickly learned that it will take some practice to get regular stitches, neat and delicate as in the photos, but what mattered more was that I didn’t notice the time passing, and I found myself in that elusive zone - in the flow - and right now, that’s something to treasure.

This book will bring a dose of charm into your life at a time when we all might welcome that. It works well for an absolute beginner (though there are also some designs featuring more complex scenes which I imagine would appeal to experienced embroiderers), and might be something for a teen looking to embellish clothes (the book design is fresh and smart, without a whiff of old worldiness) as well as anyone looking to find a bit of peace and relaxation. Just maybe people will be getting lots of embroidered gifts from me for Christmas this year...

I love this book! Such cute embroidery designs that I can’t wait to try out myself. The book does a good job of covering different stitches for people less familiar with hand sewing.

Plant Lady Embroidery by Applemints is a lovely volume of botanical embroidery patterns. Delicate little designs actually resemble real flowers, leaves, and fungii. The first section of the book shows color depictions of the designs, with the page number of the design beside it. You can simply feast your eyes on the brightly colorful and pretty designs, or you can move on to the second section, which features information of how to use the book and how to do embroidery. It introduces terms, explains a few techniques, and even offers some ideas on how to feature these patterns--on a piece of felt, as a handcrafter pin, or on the side of a solid colored tote, for example. Then the third section is the patterns themselves, depicted in simple black and white illustrations that list the color number, number of strands, and type of stitching beside the transferrable patterns. As someone who doesn't actually embroider yet, even I found the book easy to follow, although I have not yet put it to use. I would, however, highly recommend it as a resource for anyone who enjoys embroidery, especially if they also love flowers, leaves, and/or mushrooms. This is a charming yet practical volume, and I want to thank #NetGalley and Quarto for sharing a temporary free digital advanced readers' copy with me in exchange for my honest review.

I don't think it's a coincidence that more people have taken up sewing in 2020 than in recent years, it can be a really relaxing and rewarding hobby and books like this are essential for teaching you the skills required. While the book is plant design based, it teaches you all of the necessary stitches you will need for a variety of projects going forward.

Very well designed and illustrated. These are quite realistic representations of plants, not just cutesy cartoons. The first 37 pages are closeups of finished examples, followed by some instructions and supply notes, then inspirations on where you might embroider these designs, and finally the designs themselves. This book does not have a lot of text, and I think someone could follow it without knowing much English, as long as they knew the basics of embroidery.

This is far more than just a book to teach how to embroider plants. This book teaches art and it can be also inspirational for artists who use other media such as watercolors, acrylics, or mix-media for their art. This book is a great resource for embroidery artists and makes also a great present. It is presented with a beautiful design, a helpful tool for beginners and advanced embroidery artist. I highly appreciated the step-by-step instructions how to transfer the design on to cloth. The book also contains a conversion chart from Olympus floss to DMC, but the conversion chart to Anchor (MEZ) and Madeira floss which are more common in Europe are sadly missing. Nevertheless I highly can recommend this book.

A beautiful book full of little adorable patterns of plants. I've been wanting to learn embroidery and I think these patterns can be used by everyone regardless of their expertise level because they're very versatile. I'm very excited to try some of these out in the near future.

Lovely fresh and modern take on embroidery. This classic hobby is having a revival and these lovely motifs will be great for beginners and experienced stitchers alike. Full of inspiration... I can see a rose and daisy patterned denim jacket for example!

This gorgeous book should be in any stitcher's library. There are over 300 design motifs of various plants and flowers by different embroidery artists, and the selections are so lovely! Perfect for embellishing any number of projects, the only problems is deciding which design/s to use. The patterns include stitch guides and full-size templates, plus there is a section with how-tos on tools and materials needed, getting started, and stitch guides, as well as a project inspiration gallery. While I think this book is more suited to stitchers with at least some experience, a beginner would be able to pick this up with a little outside help, say instruction videos or tutorials. A great design resource!

The embroidery patterns available to copy in the Plant Lady Embroidery are exquisite and very easy to follow.
I particularly loved the section of Herb patterns and i used Elderflower, Dill and Rosemary, designs to make up an embroidered picture for my bedroom.

Plant Lady Embroidery by Applemints is a fantastic resource for anyone wanting to learn how to embroider. The book has a multitude of ideas that are inspirational and fun to make. It is definitely an easy hobby to start that requires minimal resources.

As many of us are finding ourselves indoors and at home more often than usual at present, crafting is one way to cure boredom! I have alway been interested in learning how to embroider and jumped at this opportunity to review Plant Lady Embroidery.

❀ MANY PATTERNS TO CHOOSE FROM

The layout of this craft book is really interesting. There are quite a few tips and basic information at the beginning to get you started. I loved the fact that there are so many patterns to choose from. I did have an ebook, so copying the patterns was a bit difficult, but still doable.

The images are plentiful and very inspiring throughout the book. However, the instructions for the more difficult patterns are sometimes a bit unclear. This is easily solved by a quick search on YouTube, though.

If you are looking for a new activity to try that is both easy and cost efficient, Plant Lady Embroidery by Applemints is something to try.

Plant Lady Embroidery is a superlative collection for surface embroidery by Applemints. Originally published in 2017 in Japanese, this English translation edition was released 28th April 2020 by Quarto on their Quarry imprint, it's 120 pages and available in paperback format.

This is an oddly formatted book to western audiences. The first 30% of the book is a catalogue of designs (and there are oodles of them!) presented in full color. There is a short gallery of project inspirations after that (4 pages) along with an introduction and general techniques chapter. This chapter covers materials, fabric and thread choices, needles, scissors, tensioning devices (hoops) etc etc.
It should be noted that this book is about surface embroidery, not cross stitch. It's lovely to see tutorials and and upswing in interest for the other fibrearts; it seems like only cross-stitch had any following for a long long time and it's nice to see surface embroidery enjoying a renaissance.

Anyhow, following the materials and supplies chapter is a really well done tutorial chapter about the different stitches used for the patterns in the book. The step-by-step photos are annotated and accompanied by explanatory text. They're clear and easy to follow.

The final half of the book contains the patterns for the elements listed in the catalogue at the beginning. They are mostly small(ish) elements which can be combined and switched around as desired.

I enjoyed the book very much. It's a worthwhile and fun introduction and guide to learning embroidery. Many of the designs in the book could also serve as a good jumping off point for dimensional embroider/stumpwork.

Lovely book! I love flowers but haven't done embroidery in years. As it says, there are 300 motifs and designs in this book. I can't pick a favorite. First I saw the violets (!), then the lily of the valley, then little wreaths and as I kept going I realized that all of these designs suit me. What I found unique were the succulents and cacti. The flowers are in many different categories. There are color pictures of the finished work, then patterns to trace and detailed instructions on how to do the stitches. Now I have to think of where I'll put them. Oh yeah, there are inspirations for that in the book too. This is a good book for beginners or experienced embroidery artists.

A beautiful book for beginner embroiderers. Easily transferable designs and even easier to understand instructions.

I may not be the biggest stitcher on the planet, but I did like this book with all the fun embroidery with plants. It has some nice sections, such as summer and autumn, which makes it easy to find something that fits together nicely. I might purchase this for a friend.

I loved reading Plant Lady Embroidery by Applemints as I loved the color photos that illustrated the different floral patterns. At the back of the book you will find information on how to use the book including a color conversion chart for different embroidery company's threads. The patterns are at the back and they include information concerning color number, how much thread (floss) to use and stitch name. If you have never embroidered before, the information should be helpful when it comes to staring your project.

This is an excellent embroidery resource. One of my favorite things is stitching different flowers and this book offers tons of patterns. It looks like it would be easy to print and combine several different flowers to create a wreath or simply a garden of flowers on an embroidery hoop. It was very thorough with the explanations and had a lot of flowers that I had not seen before in similar pattern books.

More than 300 gorgeous floral and other botanical motives makes Plant Lady Embroidery a must-have for any embroiderer. The motives are shown finished, and in drawings with each type of stitch clearly marked including the colours to use. Excellent reference book for creating your own larger motives, or for picking out smaller motives to add as decoration on handkerchiefs, tea towels and clothes.

A sweet and approachable guide to botanical embroidery. Includes color photos of all the flowers, mushrooms, cacti, herbs, etc., that the book will instruct you in making. Stitch guide and basic embroidery instructions. Originally published in Japan, and the animals (especially cats) and people show some influence from Japanese art, but the designs are universally appealing.
