Description

Hogan's Boat is a rollicking romp through the marshes and rivers of coastal Georgia with a cast of characters that will make you think that everybody there is either crooked or is related to someone who is. There are bad guys you'll want to kill and good guys you'll want to take home and feed. There are kids who are wiser than the adults who are supposed to be raising them and there are old, rich people who you will fall in love with. Welcome to Big Mud Fish Camp. 5.0 out of 5 stars We knew Vic could tell stories in song - but this is one "song" you will not be able to get out of your head., March 24, 2012 By jsfrey - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hogan's Boat (Paperback) Working colloguial verse tangled with coastal Georgia lore better than Mason Waters and the Groove All-Stars can rock a 4/4 beat, Vic's book compiles the essence of his much-loved songs by way of a hilliarous thriller that unveils the simple beauty of our not-so-well-kept marsh mud mysteries. If our friends to the north get a-hold of this not-so-fictional expose, we are fixin' to be over-run with more "Parkers" than Vic's got new red shoes. Let's just hope they've got as much heart, soul and money as Ernest. If folks love this book as much as I do (and as much as we all love Vic), they'll be linin' up down at the tattoo shop with Cooter Brown for their "Please don't let me drive" tat. Headin' that way, now. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? Yes No Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment

5.0 out of 5 stars Hogan's Boat, May 20, 2012 By Walrus13 - See all my reviews This review is from: Hogan's Boat (Paperback) Hogan's Boat

A fish camp, rural backwater settings, great food, plenty of beer and commercially doing for pay what you would do for free...if you just could. That is the setting for a fun romp off the beaten path in Vic Water's fine piece of colloquial scribbling. Obviously a great storyteller...Waters weaves a tale of tranquility that is interrupted by a series of boat thefts along the pristine coastline of Georgia. A trusting group of marina folk, who never lock their doors, are suddenly enmeshed in the crime of the century in this saltwater community. An unlikely blend of characters from all walks of life creates an interesting meld of experiences and ideas of how life should be led. Billy the commercial fisherman and single father. Billy's precocious 7 year old daughter Maria and her favourite teacher, Miss Dixie...who is also the object of Billy's affection. Charlie, the convicted Pizza Hut robber...who just showed up one day and stayed to become an integral family member. Then the visit from Ernest and Betty from Tennessee who came to fish and fell in love with the Big Mud Fish Camp and its menagerie of society's castoffs. Ernest and Betty have hearts of gold and more money than most small countries and generously spread the wealth in a manner that endears endearing people in the first place. Ernest provides the boat of a lifetime for Billy...who insists on a monthly loan payment plan because of his pride. Then per the title...Hogan's Boat gets stolen and the intrigue that ensues...is fraught with adventure and mystery. Great story, concocted with many moving parts and all characters play a role in the happy conclusion. A true feel good novel about characters we all have known and some like Ernest...that we all hope to be someday. The real acid test was when my wife decided to read Hogan's Boat. She reads no less than 50 books per year and we have had very few books in common through the years. She read it in a couple of day because she could not put it down. So, that cinched it for me...it must indeed be a good read. Mr. Waters...please keep entertaining us with your quirky meanderings. Well done. Walrus 13. 5.0 out of 5 stars Nothin' better than a good Southern novel..., May 14, 2012 By Carla J. Pantelakis "CJP" (St. Simons Island, Georgia) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Hogan's Boat (Paperback) Hogan's Boat made me gasp, laugh, cry, and realize I knew these people :). His voice rings true to his persona and love for his home turf. Living on St.Simons Island, I could see the opening scene as if I was right there, watching the gators slip into the water for their fresh supper. The cops on patrol in this story really do exist somewhere around here. I have seen them. lol Vic keeps you totally engrossed throughout. Can't wait to read the next one. It is sure to be another hit. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? Yes No Report abuse | Permalink Comment Comment

5.0 out of 5 stars Only in the south!, April 13, 2012 By Jewels - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hogan's Boat (Paperback) Vic's story telling is as incredible as it gets! He captures the "old south" as only Vic could as a true southerner. This book is well written with characters that you learn to love. Once you start reading, get comfortable, as you won't be putting it down until you read it in it's entirety. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great story!, April 13, 2012 By Roberta McKendry (Florida) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Hogan's Boat (Paperback) Oh my goodness...Once I started reading Hogan's Boat I couldn't put it down. Certainly got into the characters of the book and couldn't wait to read what the next chapter had in store. After periods of tears and smiles...finished reading in less than two days and still continue to go over the trials and tribulations of the Hogan family, friends and foes. Kudos to Vic Waters for such a suspenseful, sitting-on-the-edge-of-my-chair type of story. Hoping there's more to come from Author Vic Waters! 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story - Great Cover!, April 11, 2012 By debra Tomas (ORANGE PARK, FLORIDA, US) - See all my reviews This review is from: Hogan's Boat (Kindle Edition) This story draws you in like you are one of the family, but just when you think you have it all figured out, turn the page and be surprised. An unpredictable yet very satisfying ending. A great taste of what life is still about down south and could only be written by a true southerner
