Steve has learned his subject the hard way, by doing it several times successfully. His extensive experience in corporate finance served as a positive basis for the writing of The IPO Playbook. I will readily admit that my backgrjound as an engineer provided little grounding for the topic. However my Masters in Process Engineering helped me appreciate his approach in writing the book.

I would consider the book as a tutorial for both a prospective CEO and a mandatory guidebook for his CFO. The many complexities are somewhat overwhelming, and a wise warning to executives, especially Board members, as to what lies in store. I think it is also a cautionary tale to not undertake an IPO,too soon (80+ million in revenue) or too late. The IPO is the serene call for many startups.

I have been a CEO three times, and the one mistake I made was to do a reverse takeover of a shell company for liquidity. I realized it was a mistake after it was too late to build the infrastructure so,we eventually hived off the public part and ran a smaller private company while growing it methodically. But that led to a takeover and subsequent loss of identity.

Had Steve's book been available back then, we would have had a better outcome. Thanks for doing the work Steve.

And have a glass of Cakebread Family Estate wine for me!
