This was a suitable entrant to this series of inspiring life stories for the very young, with the sporting subject of one of the world's most famous footballers. Kudos and thanks to the book, too, for calling it football, and not the heinously nasal "soccer" noise the Yanks label it with. We don't really see the truth of the slums he would have grown up in, but the story is fine in conveying the rise to fame, glory and respect that both his natural talent and his hard work led to. The artwork is very bright, and suitably dynamic, and tells us there are a lot more pasty-white ginger people in Brazil than we ever thought possible. Still, equality and all that. It's the rags-to-riches story we come here for, though, and the idea that anybody anywhere can become the best at whatever they want to achieve, which is yet again the moral of this whole cycle of books.

I've read a handful of picture books in the Little People, Big Dreams series and they are all so great. This on is about soccer legend Pele. Born Edson Arantes, Pele was given his nickname Pele by his schoolmates. He loved playing soccer from a very young age. He even made his own soccer ball out of old socks and newspapers since his family couldn't afford to buy a ball. His inspiring career took him from professional soccer to the World Cup and international fame.

Just like the other books in this series, this book is full of appealing illustrations and lets kids know about an important figure who was able to achieve great things.

I really like this book series! I really love how they have very individual styles that fit well with the person featured and does not sugarcoat the circumstances. I also feel like they feature people from a wide variety of countries and backgrounds, which I love! The story is nice, the moments chosen feels like the right ones to really tell Pelé's story and highlight his passion for humanitarian work!

This is a inspirational biography of a great soccer player. I had never heard of Pele before this book, but it's obvious that he made an impact in soccer. I enjoyed hearing how he started playing soccer, and how young he was when he made it "big". The book also highlights his caring way for giving back to the community.

This book tells the story of a small boy, who one day promised his father he'd win the world cup for Brazil and kept his word.

Most often, the books from the little people BIG DREAMS series fall into one of two categories for me: 1. never heard of that person before and 2. oh, them. This was a kind of third category: I knew the name Pelé, I knew he was a football player from Brazil. The end.
So this series aimed at toddlers contributed to my general knowledge. Again.

The illustrations are very colourful and fit nicely to the setting. In general, I feel that they always pick the right illustrators so the illustration style compliments the story in every possible way.

Another thing I liked was that they avoided telling their readers that football is a thing for boys. The message was: You can do this if you want to! It doesn't matter who you are, where you are born, just try it! Work for it!
That's the kind of story I want toddlers to hear.

I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

Another cute, short biography for the Little People Big Dreams series. The artwork is bright and really pops off the page. I liked the way the story emphasized Pelé's humanitarian side as well as his athletic prowess on the pitch.

This series is always a joy to read, it’s a really nice introduction to well known people for little children. Of course the plot is always a little bit fast but that’s to be expected and it’s totally understandable.
This volume here is about Pelé, one of the greatest footballers ever. I believe his story could be inspirational to everyone, especially seeing that he did a lot not only in the football world, but also to help bring people together.

I loved this story of the famous soccer player, PELE! This story shows how important family was to him and doing good for his community. Students will be inspired by this tale and I can't wait to share it. Also, the illustrations are wonderful and vibrant. Thanks for allowing me to review.

Pele is the newest lead in this latest edition of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This series is such a delight and the perfect way to educate not just kids but everyone about historic and cultural icons.

Pele is a Brazilian soccer player who is regarded as one of the most successful and popular sports figures of the 20th century. This book follows Pele as he was sixteen and asked to play the World Cup in Sweden and winning all possible titles for Santos to his help with opening a soccer training camp for kids in need.

Camila Rosa illustrates this installment and does an amazing job. Rosa's art style was so captivating and her art definitely further helped tell Pele's story. This book taught me about an influential person who I had previously never heard of.. I love collecting these books and am so thrilled to add this one to the rest of my collection.

Little Pelé had Big Dreams!

Dreams of winning the World Cup final for Brazil, and most importantly for his father! Dreams of buying a house for his parents! Dreams of giving back and helping children growing up in communities like his! Dreams of uniting the world with soccer!

Little Pelé had these Dreams...and Big Pelé made them all come true!

The Little People, BIG DREAMS series collection is an awesome way to introduce and get children excited about learning history! The kid friendly text and illustrations make history so fun!

This is another wonderful addition to the Little People, BIG DREAMS collection. This is the story of Edson Arantes do Nascumento, better known as Pelé. As a young boy he practiced his soccer/football skills with what he had in his poor Brazilian neighborhood, which was a sock full of rags for a ball. He was determined to one day lead his country to a World Cup victory, and succeeded many times! He also gave back to communities that were living in poverty, and was a UNESCO ambassador.

The writing is simple and engaging and the illustrations are bright and cheerful. The story will draw young readers in and show that being united is the most important way to be, on and off the field.

I was given an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.
This little book tells the story of Pelé, one of the greatest footballers ever existed. I think for children may be very inspirational reading about this figure because he not only did great things on the soccer field, but also in real life trying to thelp those who needed it the most.

Pelé loved football from a young age. He didn’t have a ball, so he made one with things in his home. When young Pelé saw his father cry because Brazil’s team lost the World Cup, Pelé promised his father that he would make the national team and win the World Cup. Pelé worked hard. The entire country celebrated when he helped Brazil win the World Cup. In addition to soccer, Pelé was a humanitarian.

Little People Big Dreams is a great series of biographies for children. I would recommend the books for any classroom library.

Pele is a new biography for young readers in the Little People, Big Dreams series. I've reviewed a number of these titles and all of them are delightful and exuberant little books which cover the lives of famous cultural, science, arts, and innovative icons while maintaining an age-appropriate level of detail.

Due out 1st Sept 2020 from Quarto on their Frances Lincoln imprint, it'll be 32 pages and will be available in hardcover format.

Written by Isabel Sánchez Vegara it's well written in clear accessible language. The gentle and vibrant illustrations were well done. The art by Camila Rosa is appealing and colorful and supports the story. The illustrations are bold and simple.

Well written and appealing, I am really enjoying all of these little books. This one is a worthy addition. I also appreciate that there are suggestions for further reading in the back of the book with the timeline of Pele's life.

Four stars. This would make a superlative reading circle book, classroom library book, or gift. Pele is obviously a supremely gifted athlete, but the book also highlights his accomplishments as an ambassador for equality and his charitable works. This book is a tribute to an icon who still represents the ideals of sportsmanship and brotherhood for so many thousands of people worldwide. It's nice to see him being introduced to a new generation of kids.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This was another great book in the Little People, BIG DREAMS about the life of Pelé. Even as an adult these books introduce me to people that I may not know or have a cursory knowledge of; thank you for teaching me something new again! I now understand why the people love Pelé so much, he brought the world cup home to Brazil and then used his fame to make a difference in the world.

Pele // by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara // illustrated by Camila Rosa

When I saw this book, I just knew I had to read it! My husband is a big soccer fan and when I asked him about Pele, he excitedly told me half of the things I ended up reading in this book! I love how this series is always able to condense someone's story into a short book while still conveying the importance of that person and the lessons we can learn from them. I've become a big fan of Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara through these books and, once again, she did not disappoint. This book has a spot on our shelves for sure. The illustrations by Camila Rose are well done and accompany the story beautifully.

Edson Arantes do Nascimento, also known as Pele, is a famous Brazilian Football Player. Pele was a humble boy who helped out his family when he became successful. He went on to help children who grew up in poverty, like himself. This is another wonderful addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series and contains lovely illustrations throughout. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my digital copy.

Another good addition to this series, which I enjoy. I knew who Pelé was but didn't know his history or the work he did outside of soccer/football. The author included just enough tidbits about his beginning years and what he did beyond sport to show the depth of his story.
