Description

A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES meets THE SECRET CIRCLE.

SLATE

I didn’t mean to steal the Bloodstone from the De Morel’s crypt.

Scratch that, I did mean to steal it.

Until I realized it was a curse-magnet that only comes off if I, along with a jolly trio, successfully defeat four curses.

If any of us fail, I’m dead.

I’ve never been a glass half-empty sort of person, but my glass looks in dire need of a refill right about now.

The only highlight of this wicked treasure hunt: feisty, entitled Cadence de Morel.

CADENCE

I was raised on tales of magic, in a small town reputed to be the birthplace of French witchcraft.

Did I believe all the stories I heard? Absolutely not. I mean, if magic existed, Maman wouldn’t have died, and Papa wouldn’t be stuck in a wheelchair, right?

Wrong.

The night Slate Ardoin waltzes into my life, wearing a ring he stole from my mother’s grave, I call him a monster.

But then I meet real ones, and Slate, well . . . he becomes something else to me.

Something frustrating to live with but impossible to live without.

Something I will fight for, no matter the cost.

*Warning: profuse cursing (and not just the magical kind).

A DISCOVERY OF WITCHES meets THE SECRET CIRCLE.

SLATE

I didn’t mean to steal the Bloodstone from the De Morel’s crypt.

Scratch that, I did mean to steal it.

Until I realized it was a curse-magnet that...

Can I just say that this book needs more than 5 stars?! Like a bunch more! I went into this book completely blind and loved every single page. I couldn't put it down until the very end and even now, I have to know what happens next! What can I send y'all to help speed this process up?! Slate is such an amazing, morally grey character! I completely get where he's coming from. If someone let me suffer for 17 years and then popped up like heyyyy, I'd be pissed too! I'd want to get a little revenge on them. Cadence is an adorable history buff and a prude. Everything Slate is not. And yet, she's who will wear him down in the end. He says he'll wear her down, but he's the one going soft here. Can't get enough of this book! I highly recommend!

I want to thank Netgalley and Twig Publishing for an arc e-copy of Of Wicked Blood in exchange for an honest review! Rating ~ 5 / 5 stars Holy crap! I don't even know what to say because Of Wicked Blood is fantastic! Everything from the setting to the characters to the plot threw me onto a wild ride! I've recently discovered Olivia Wildenstein's books and I have read 2 (Feather and Not Another Love Story) but this novel! I have no words for it!! I loved the characters! Slate and Cadence have 2 very different backgrounds but still manage to work well with each other. The drama between these two is everything! I loved reading the chapters in both perspectives because it gives more depth to the writing. I loved Slate's monologues because he always managed to make me crack up even in the direst situations! Both characters grow so much from the moment they first meant to the last sentence on the last page. I can say that both characters truly compliment each other really well and I can't wait to read more about them. Can I say that I'm so mad that the book ended when such a huge surprise happened.??? I was hoping for another chapter to explain how that surprise happened but nope, both of the authors decided to end it right there! This is not a bad thing because it shows that both of these authors know how to keep the reader aka me hooked till the very end and literally end up wanting the next book immediately! Overall, I just want to give a standing ovation to both Ms. Wildenstien and Ms. Hayoz because this novel is OUTSTANDING. Go add this book to your Goodreads now!!!!

What a quick, satisfying fantasy novel. The characters were extremely well written and the interactions between them were believable and interesting. The storyline is told by the two main characters, Slade and Cadence. As we begin, we discover that Slade is an anti hero. He became a hero in spite of himself. This proves to increase to be entertaining and likeable. I do fell that the world building would have been more effective with a more detailed, i depth backstory. Kudos to this book one of a series. I look forward to the further development and the progression of the storyline as subsequent books become available. And excellent, enjoyable read. I strongly recommend. I would like to thank Olivia Wildenstein, Katy Hayoz, Twig Publishing nd Netgalley for allowing me to read this advanced reader copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This book! Wow! The story was so intriguing! It's action-packed and kind of sketchy in a good way. Also, the setting was perfect for the story. I very rarely talk about settings in my reviews but I felt this one deserved mentioning because I really loved this strange, eerie, magic loving little town and I thought it was an excellent backdrop. The journey these characters go on throughout this book especially within the time frame it all happened was wild. Each curse just got more and more chaotic so kudos to the Quatrefoil Crew for going through what they did with most of their sanity still intact because I think I need a drink or two on their behalf. Overall I really loved this book. We have a very interesting group of characters established (some not as trustworthy as others). There was action, danger, some funny moments, secrets in top of secrets, and so many truths to be revealed. I am super invested and I can't wait to read what comes next. Thank you Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz, Twig Publishing, and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to review this book!

I am planning to read everything by the authors after this book. It was so good! Slate comes home to a letter inviting him to a new school and he discovers a town filled with family history, challenges, and new friends. Cadence, Slate, and their crew of friends take on challenge after challenge before the new moon. The authors leave no stone unturned with romance, deception, death, and character growth. This book is a must read!

Of Wicked Blood by Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz is an incredible read! I've honestly never read an Olivia Wildenstein book that I haven't fell in love with. I've literally devoured all of her series! This book definitely held up to my high expectations. The storyline is unique and the characters are well developed. You really feel like your getting to know everyone in the story in such a way that you feel like the characters are real. The storyline kept me on my toes and kept my attention. If you love paranormal romance books, like I do, you will love this one! The ending of this book was amazing and now I'm dying to get my hands on the next book in the series! I can't wait to see how the characters and their relationships develop and what happens next! It was everything I expected from a book co-written by Olivia Wildenstein. I am definitely looking forward to reading more from Katie Hayoz now too!

I would like to thank NetGalley, Twig Publishing, Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz for proving me with an ARC of ‘Of Wicked Blood’ in exchange for an honest review. Magic, romance and danger – what more could you want from this engaging novel by two fantastic authors! ‘Of Wicked Blood’ explores the dangerous and magic world of Brume. Written from the perspectives of both Cadence de Morel and Slate Ardoin, the novel follows the two protagonists, and others, as they are thrown into a dangerous quest to save Slate’s life and find the four pieces of the Quatrefoil. This incredible read takes the reader on an action-packed journey full of twists and turns as both Candace and Slate learn more about their past, themselves and each other during a dangerous quest filled with monsters, magic, secrets and lies. The characters, the dual narrative and the plot were extremely well-written and well developed. As the reader, you find yourself immediately thrown into the world of the two protagonists and invested in their quest. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read and a great start to the series – I was hooked! I strongly recommend this title to fans of fantasy, romance and YA in need of their next adventure!

This is going down as my best Netgalley find in my 3 years here. I read this book in one sitting, cause I could not put it down! The book is set in a small town in France called Brume, that has a rich history in magic. The setting is so charming, and rich in descriptions of festivals, and cultures. The plot is fast paced, and the banter between slate and cadence adds a lot of humour, and makes the characters so likable. I would highly recommend to anyone (all ready have to everyone I can personally get near)

Absolutely astounding! I have entered a world and I'm here to stay for Slate and Cadence. It's every readers dream of romance, adventure, mystery, thriller, historical fact/ fiction and suspense. Brava to these two writers for truly taking the time to paint each character and scene vividly in your mind. I felt transported, I felt their pain, happiness and frustration. Your heart will race and you will cry. Then you will beg for more. Well done.

This book is so good I’m kinda mad I’ve finished it. Do you think illumicrate will put it in a box as I’d love me a signed copy! Where to start, this book gave me a mc that was not perfect, he’s a bad boy and he’s got a past. Sign me up right there. I love his relationship with his “brother”. It’s so sweet I want to hug them both. There is some swearing but for me that doesn’t detract from the weighting it enhances it with a realistic feeling. The plot is well paced and the word building has a nice flow, is understandable and pulls from lore whilst being unique! I can not wait to see where we go in the next book and will gladly review that too when it’s time comes. I’m not in to giving 5*’s for arcs but this one does, it earned it by being the most enthralling read I’ve had in a long while. Engage book hang over in three......two........one...............

Of Wicked Blood by Olivia Wildenstein and Katie Hayoz is well worth your time. Having slogged through my fair share of impossibly boring attempts at a magical story and a sultry romance I was shocked to find how drawn in I was by the world that these two authors have created. Throughout the harrowing tale of Slate Ardoin, a boy who you can’t help but pity despite his morally rocky background, I found myself obsessed with every last word. In fact I managed to devour this entire novel within 48 short hours, it was almost sad, because when I finished, all I wanted was the sequel! And I want it now! Fair warning, in these pages you may find yourself falling in love with a brooding, curly-headed orphan, or obsessing over a preppy, golden professor. The characters are so well written that you want to laugh with them, cry with them, scream at them to choose the other path, unfortunately, this communication is impossible so you are at the mercy of the winding road that Wildenstein and Hayoz have constructed, but I promise you that a walk along this path is exciting, and you will find it hard to stop holding your breath. So whether you are fighting a nasty reading slump, or simply in need of a book that will awaken the mystery reader, the fantasy reader, the science-fiction reader and the romance reader within you, look no further. I simply cannot wait to see what comes next for the Quatrefoil crew!
