Description

Frustrated by Al Qaeda’s lack of success in planting bombs to bring down several airliners on the same day, Ayman al Zawahiri decides to send Harun al-Rashid to the United States. His mission - kill 10,000 Americans in one attack .

In the U.S., Derek Almer’s fiancée Eileen Bertram is injured and her mother shot in a carjacking. Suspicious that there may be more behind the hijacking, Derek – a Naval Aviator and CIA contract pilot, and his future father in law and retired cop Jack Bertram, start digging.

The trail leads them to the leader of Mexican Brotherhood gang whom they spot leaving a house with a Middle Eastern looking man in McKinney, Texas. On a hunch, Derek sends a photo of the man and the police sketches to a contact in the Mossad who sends back Interpol Red Notices as well as international arrest warrants for al-Rashid.

“Why would al-Qaeda, the Mexican Brotherhood and the Sinaloa cartel work together?” This is the question Derek Almer starts asking his contact at the CIA in the summer of 2015.

Members of the president’s administration want Derek silenced because his hypothesis runs counter to their narrative that al Qaeda incapable of launching an attack on the U.S. Corrupt cops and the Sinaloas want Derek dead.

Convinced he is right, Derek risks all as he pursues al-Rashid in an attempt to prevent the attack that, if successful, could kill more than al Qaeda’s original goal of 10,000.

Great thriller - very timely subject. The coalition of Mexican drug cartels with Al Qaeda’ operatives in the United States unite in an attempt to bring mass destruction to the American populace. Combine that with a political establishment that does not believe this can happen, makes for a page-turner of a story. After an attack on his fiancé and mother-in-law, Derek Almer, a naval aviator and CIA contractor, becomes involved in tracking down the perpetrators. An extremely enjoyable read. #FlightofthePawnee #NetGalley
