Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.

This is a great book for older kids to learn to draw animals. I was hoping that it would have been suitable for younger children, but realistically it is best for kids 8 and up. There are super adorable drawings with some great details. A basic understanding of how to emulate what is on the page is necessary. This will be great for children who enjoy drawing and would like to get better at drawing a variety of animals.

Draw 62 Animals and Make Them Happy is a fun tutorial drawing book for all-ages by Terry Runyan. Due out 20th Oct from Quarto on their Quarry imprint, it's 128 pages and will be available in paperback format.

This is a fun and accessible drawing book with a similar format to the other books in the series. I love drawing tutorial books even though I'm a scientist and don't consider myself an artist. I like the feelings of fun and freedom drawing gives although I'm very often intimidated by starting on a blank page. This tutorial book gives the reader "permission" to just start drawing, to get ink on paper, and that's a big deal. Given the state of the world right now, being able to draw something *happy* is priceless. This might have benefitted by being something of a "right book at the right time", but if so, it's a great bit of serendipity. I spent a week drawing and doodling some of the tutorials here and it's just been so fun and entertaining. I'm still a scientist and not a brilliant technical artist, but I had fun.

The tutorials are exactly that - step by step line drawn series of pictures start to finish. There aren't a lot of extraneous bells and whistles here. There's a full table of contents with each of the animals listed - and it is a comprehensive list; from guinea pig and walrus to binturong and long-eared jerboa. They're whimsically drawn and the format for each is a two page spread with the tutorial drawings on the left page and a "try it yourself" on the facing page with a number of suggested similar poses and settings including other animals and scenery.

Great selection for a gift for a young artist, perhaps with some added sketch pads and pencils. This would also make a superlative classroom or library book.I would also recommend this book to babysitters, grandparents, parents, and basically anyone who spends a fair bit of time with small kids in order to up their 'draw with me' game. I really enjoyed this. I will use these to decorate journals and notes for friends. I see some line drawn animal scientists in my future (emu and lemur lab nerds with microscope, lab, and test tubes)!

The tutorials are all simple line drawings but would obviously lend themselves well to coloring with other media after drawing.

Five stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Fun book, kids will love this book.
I breaks down how to draw several different kinds of animals. Also shows some alternate ways to draw them.
Think all ages could have fun with it.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book will not teach you drawing basics, or how to draw animals photorealistically. Instead, it dives you some basic steps to create a gute, cartoonish animal, and adds tips and examples how to make these animals happy. The examples were really cute and made me smile a lot.
It also shows that you don't have to be the best digital photorealistic painter to create art that makes people smile. Some lines and a bit oh shading with cute details are enough for that. These animals are a great inspiration for self-drawn postcards and such.

I would definitely say this book is not for absolute beginners when it comes to art and drawing, there is not an awful lot of technical advice but we produced some really great animal drawings using this book.
Although slightly more advanced I found the drawing stages easy to follow and loved the little tweaks to make each animal to give them an individual touch, a hat here, a smirk there. I loved the different personalities and the vast range of animals. As much as we enjoy drawing a cat or a bear it was a lot of fun trying some more obscure animals such as a hermit crab or a ferret

I’m not an artist of any type, but my 10 year old granddaughter loves to draw. It just so happens I was visiting and had her look at the book with me. She loved the overall content, but thought it was definitely for very experienced artists.

Even though the beginning lines were there at the start there was not enough to help a beginner or even a semi-advanced artist. This book is geared for artists that are into shadows, shading, and into small details. But she loved all the different animals, but she wished there was more color in the book,

I realize the book is for advanced artists, but it does have some valuable techniques that would enable a beginner and advanced student to hone their skills.
I know that due to the shading is probably why there is no color in the book, but maybe the final picture could be black n white and also color.

I would recommend this book.

I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and these are my willingly given thoughts and opinions.

A fun step by step guide to drawing animals. Probably more suited to older children (or even adults!) but this is a fun and engaging book.

Thank you to the publisher for an advance copy via netgalley!!

The drawings of animals are very cute in this book. However, the difficulty of drawing them is pretty hard for an average person like myself.

I found this super cute and definitely a book full of animals that kids, teens, adults can all doodle. I did not find the drawings to always be super easy as there was a basic starting shape that may be difficult for some to make. However the book does allow for characters to “make it their own” with customizable details. That was cute.

Draw 62 Animals and Make Them Happy is a great doodle book for children and beginner artists. The drawings are fun and cheerful and simple enough for anyone to have a go at. Many of the pictures are not step by step but are easy enough to follow, and it wouldn't be difficult to add your own twist or adapt them into other things. Overall a fun rainy day book for creative kids.

This is a terrific book for older children and adults alike who want to learn a bit about drawing.

The tutorials are simple to follow with great line drawings. The animals are super sweet but not realistic. They are in black and white but once you draw them Im sure you would be able to colour them up in any medium you have to hand.

This would be a great stocking filler or a treat for yourself.

Thanks to Netgalley and Quarry Books for the ARC. This review is my own opinion.

A very cute book that guides you through sketching adorable animals. It definitely isn't step by step and is geared more towards those already comfortable with drawing as is. I'd say it's best for beginner artists or even as an inspiration on what to draw similar to the 102 things to draw book series.
I would have loved if maybe the steps were a bit more detailed or descriptive but overall it is fantastic!

I'm a terrible artist and frequently look for things that will help me to learn to draw. This book was really helpful in doing some basic stuff. I highly recommend for people like me.

These animals were SO cute! My upper elementary students loved it! I would say it is a great book for any one ages 8 and up.

A fun drawing book, that I really enjoyed. I sometimes had to laugh at those funny animals in this book. At times I wished there would have been more steps how to do in this book, but still this is a great book!

Very cute doodling book. This creates simplistic animal shapes in 4-6 steps and then gives variations. Perfectly suitable for children and beginners. It has a spot in the book on the variations page to try it out so you don’t need additional paper if this were a road trip activity.

First off, the book looks gorgeous. I really like Terry’s art style and love the font she picked for the introduction. There is only one page of intro and then it’s straight into the digital drawings. This isn’t a beginners guide to drawing animals, it’s a reference book with tips for making your drawings look happy. If you are looking for a cute reference book with a wide variety of animals then this book is for you. I highly recommend it. Thank you #netgalley

Great book. Illustrations of some very cute(and exotic) animals suitable for ages 8 +. This book is more useful for those looking to imitate the style on the page as it doesn't truly show you the creative process. It shows you area by area what to add next, but nothing about coming up with the basic shapes, how to add details, etc. My middle schoolers do enjoy the others in the collection.

Thanks to Netgalley and the Quarry for the Advanced Reader Copy.

Draw 62 Animals and Make Them Happy is a fun-filled book with tutorials for each one of 62 animals. There are the “usual suspects” like a frog, monkey, horse, crab, and bunny, but there are also some unusual animals, such as yak, Tasmanian devil, bush baby, numbat, and hoopoe bird. Then there are some that you’re probably unfamiliar with, like binturong, spotted genet, okapi, peccary, and long-eared jerboa, some or all of which may give this book an educational element.

Terry Runyan is a great artist with a whimsical style that automatically makes every animal look happy. She provides clear step-by-step instructions for drawing each animal in usually six steps or less. Then on the opposite page, she shows them in unusual poses or situations. For example, a pigeon is shown wearing sunglasses and has a camera around his neck, a polar bear with a penguin eating an ice cream cone, a bunny wearing glasses and sitting on two books (one with the title Hoppy and the other says Bunny Tails), an orangutan eating watermelon, a porcupine on a skateboard, and so much more. One of my favorites is the porcupine wearing bows in her hair. Note that the pages with cute variations for each animal also include a circle for you to add your rendition of that animal.

Draw 62 Animals is sure to provide hours and hours of drawing fun and is almost certain to include all your favorites. Just looking at the pictures is sure to bring a smile to your face. Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Quarry Books and NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book is super cute! It shows you how to draw cute animals without any prior art knowledge, It will probably take a few tries to get the shapes right but I would wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone who wants to draw something adorable or if you want to draw with a little kid!

I always love these books and this one didn't disappoint. It's easy to confuse it with Draw 62 Animals and Make Them Cute by another author, and it is very similar. I'm hoping it's part of a series by the same publisher who commissioned different artists and not just this one really imitating that one, but I have to assume it is.

In any case, the animals are all adorable and the illustrations are easy to follow. It walks the line wonderfully between easy to do and realistic, starting with simple lines that you embellish to perfect each animal. The left side shows the steps to make the animal, and then the right side shows a bunch of fun variations. It's adorable and fun. Highly recommended.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

Do you like to draw animals?
Illustrator Terry Runyan considers herself as obsessed with drawing fun animals. In "Draw 62 Animals and Make Them Happy. Step-by-step drawing for Characters and Personality - For Artists, Cartoonists, and Doodlers" she presents 62 step-by-step drawings of common animals such as cats, dogs, or lions, but also less common ones such as yak, cheetah, or numbat. Runyan sees the book as a "guide and reference to develop your own animal designs" (p.3). The book is one of the "Draw 62..." books published by Quarto Publishing Group – Quarry (Runyan has another one called "Draw 62 Characters and Make Them Happy").
The book shows very cute and fun drawings. It also includes tips which can stimulate the inspiration of the artists and pale blue circles entitled "Try it!" which offer space to reproduce the presented drawing. Runyan does not only draw the animals, but also lightly colors them which provides additional inspiration.
I highly recommend the book for the ones that Runyan mentioned - artists, cartoonists, and doodlers - but also for children and teenagers and for those who use other media (e.g. mix-media) since the book is truly inspirational.
The complimentary copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley free of charge. I was under no obligation to offer a positive review. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Thanks to Net Galley for a free preview of this absolutely fun and inspiring book ! My granddaughter is always asking me to draw her things when we are playing with her markers and now I will not run out of ideas for quite a while ! The drawings are very doable for an average person to do and they are completely adorable to boot. I look forward to seeing more from this author in the future !

A lovely drawing book providing steps on how to create 62 different cute cartoony type animals.

Each page provides up to 6 steps in how to draw the animal. On the opposite page are a number of other drawings of the animal in different poses plus an area to practise too. With 62 there are certainly plenty of designs to pick from be it a ferret, rhino, snake, pigeon, dolphins and many more.

I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.

This book is a visual reference for drawing a variety of 62 adorable animals. The step-by-step instructions were really neat. On each page, there is space to draw your own character. I liked that this book includes tips on drawing, shading, etc. I think kids will love going through the book and drawing each animal. Overall, a pretty cool book for those looking to learn how to draw new cute animals!
