Description

Percy’s Gold or The Trust Fund is a multi-generational saga of familial love, infidelity and loyalty. Aided by his brother Sam and the underground-railroad, Percy runs from the encroaching Civil War and joins a wagon train headed west.

Tired of the hardships of living on the prairie, he steals gold from the railroad as it makes its way through the Black Hills. Upon Percy’s death, the stolen gold is passed to Sam and his descendants as a familial trust fund. To inherit stolen gold, each must be trusted to keep the family secret.

Sam’s daughter, who has Alzheimer’s, Wills the gold to her grandson, Jason, but misplaces it before he can inherit it.

How will modern-day descendants, Emma and Jason, come to terms with what they learn as their quests for parental love and material inheritance test their trust of one another?

Trust Fund Gold or Curse?

Reviewed in the United States on July 12, 2017

London's soul searching novel begins in Nantucket Island in a Quaker community before the Civil War. The newly widowed mother of Percy and Sam, Mamie, makes a calculated move. She marries a wealthy Virginia plantation owner Stuart Castle, who needs a replacement wife to tend to his motherless infant.

At this point, the stress of this marriage, made to shelter the boys, ironically foreshadows they will be set adrift in a dangerous world. Castle adopted them, but he is a cruel slaveowner who bought their mother and considers them all chattel.

The older son, Percy, an adventurer, guides the reader through brave but treacherous miles out West. His Quaker upbringing is his compass for years. Of course the plot thickens and in a short minute, Percy is bitten by the fatal gold bug.

Instead of bringing his and Sam's descendants love and comfort, the ""trust fund,"" creates generations of outcastes riddled with fear.

I don't know how London did it, but the saga ends in the present, in a Quaker style house on the North Shore of Long Island which resembles Mamie's house which was built by a sea captain. PERCY'S GOLD or the TRUST FUND will surely keep your interest as you ponder 150 years of American struggle, choice, and its effects.

""A poignant and personal story of a family legacy-told through a rollicking tale of youthful adventure and an intimate exploration of mature discovery."" Michael Mitnick

""An amazing display of imagination that was impressive and held my attention."" Richard Bronson, M.D.

I found Percy's gold to be a captivating story that left me wanting to read a sequel! Although beginning in the mid-1800s, the story of a family's blessing and curse rings true today, especially as we deal with Alzheimers disease and financial challenges. Definitely would recommend reading."
