There have been so many books in this series before now it's always a little game to play after receiving the latest batch of review copies to think who from the past would be the next subject. Well, I was utterly wrong, for (at time of writing, at least) Captain Sir Tom Moore is very much of the present. He achieved nationwide acclaim, if not worldwide, for being an unassuming soldier who took it upon himself to celebrate leaving his nineties behind him by constantly taking his stroller for a march up and down the drive and garden alongside his family's house. Somehow it grew into a huge charitable achievement, and became one of the first positive things that could be looked at in the early days of the Great Sniffles Lockdown. (The least said about his charity single, however, the better.)

And in putting this book out within months of the event happening, the publishers do kind of test themselves as well. It has to fit into the spirit of encouragement, can-do attitude-sharing the other titles have sought, and generally achieved. And while this might labour the walking aspect – I wasn't aware it was a lifelong concern of his rather than just for this project as these pages suggest – it does show the abilities of Jo and Joe Average to be much greater than Jo and Joe Average regularly assume them to be. No, the artwork doesn't really look like Captain Tom, but the design is pleasingly child-friendly, generic, and very multi-ethnic. All told, then, it's a success – perhaps adding to what a teacher might have told her class about Captain Tom, but more importantly putting the lessons to be had from his charitable efforts on record for any and every future classroom to learn from.

Captain Tom Moore by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is another lovely addition to the much loved Little People, BIG DREAMS series. This time, we learn about Captain Tom Moore, whose perseverence in times of difficulty came to characterize his life. From the time he was a young boy in Yorkshire, Tom felt the need to serve and help, and continues to do so today as he reaches his 100th birthday, raising an astronomical sum of money to support the frontline workers who once supported him. Captain Moore is a most deserving subject of this series, and his story will certainly resonate with children in the midst of this global crisis. There is always a way to help others, regardless of size or circumstance.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the opportunity to read this ARC.

This is another great book to add to the Little People, Big Dreams collection!

I love this series as they are perfect introductions to young people about some of the most famous and influential people from our past and present and are also a reminder about how these people have also changed our history, Captain Tom Moore was unknown until the Covid-19 outbreak happened in the UK and we went into lockdown and his fundraising for the NHS came to light. This book was a great introduction to him and his life..

It is 5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended and can't wait for my daughter to get involved in the series

I have read a number of these inspiring book which are aimed at children to show often with with very little but the belief of others or self-motivation some people can effect huge changes or bring about great achievements.
Little People, Big Dreams is an influential series written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. Her simple text is beautifully supported by illustrations which capture the very essence of the characters drawn with a personal style and individual colour palette.

Captain Tom Moore well deserves his place here. News clippings and interviews about him have provided hope during the darker moments of 2020 and COVID 19.
Some lives burn brightly before death or circumstances extinguish their fire. Few have lives than last over 100 years. It would be wrong to assume that all that matters in Tom’s life is the events of the last few months.

He was a determined young man who learned about mechanics, hands-on fixing up his first motorbike. Before he was 21 he was off travelling to the other side of the world to places he couldn’t spell let alone pronounce. War is a dreadful experience for many; Tom was brave and quick to volunteer; he never forgot those young men who did not have the chance to fulfil their dreams or live out their lives in the hard won peace.
When others would think through old age, infirmity and chronic pain he’d had a good Innings and hang up his bat and pads. Tom bucks the trend in style.
Despite a serious fall and surgery he battled back through pain and reduced mobility.

Tom is of a generation who knew the gift the National Health Service and the difference it made. When he experienced its care and support in older life and with his special birthday approaching he determined to raise money for them and show his appreciation.

The rest they say is history. Yet it remains a compelling story and the stuff to inspire a new generation to see beyond their situation and be thankful.

Pure inspiration - if you could only bottle it.

This might just be my favourite addition to this series to date! I absolutely adore Captain Tom and think he is an international treasure! I really enjoyed getting to know a bit more about his past and I am so glad this story is going to be accessible for all ages.

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review!

Your kids may not have heard of Captain Tom Moore before but he can still inspire them! In this Little People, BIG DREAMS picture book, we learn about Tom Moore who was born & raised in England and went to India as part of the British army. There he made lifelong friends. Fast forward to 2020 when COVID-19 hit and Tom became an inspiration at the age of 100 when he decided to walk 100 laps in order to help thank the front line health care workers.

This is a great story for kids to understand how even an ordinary person can inspire others with acts of kindness and recognition. As always, the illustrations in this picture book are colorful with lots of interesting details to go along with the story of Captain Tom's life. The back of the book contains additional resources to help you and your kid learn more.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for kindly providing me with a digital copy of this book for review.
I’m so happy that this book exists. There hasn’t been much to celebrate in 2020, but Captain Tom doing his amazing fund raising was truly inspirational and deserves to be commemorated in these Little people books. I know a lot has been written and published about him this year, but I think it’s so important to remember that there needs to be a way children can access that information as well. That’s what I absolutely love about this series and I would highly, highly recommend to anyone with children, although I enjoy them just as much it has to be said.

Captain Tom Moore is the newest lead in this latest edition of the Little People, BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This series is such a delight and the perfect way to educate not just kids but everyone about historic and cultural icons.

Moore is a former British Army officer and centenarian.. This book follows Moore from joining the Duke of Wellington's Regiments to becoming captain to his work raising money for healthcare staff in the times of COVID-19.

Christophe Jacques illustrates this installment and does a fantastic job. Jacques' art style was so captivating and his art definitely further helped tell Moore's' story. This book taught me about an influential person who I had previously never heard of. I love collecting these books and am so thrilled to add this one to the rest of my collection.

Captain Tom Moore was my first exposure to the Little People Big Dreams series. The illustrations are colorful and endearing and the text is simple and quick to read. As a lifelong resident of the Midwestern United States, I was unfamiliar with Captain Tom Moore’s story. From this book, it is apparent that he is a well respected figure in the UK, and has many admirable traits that anyone can be inspired by. This particular story incorporates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and emphasizes the ability to make a positive impact on the world no matter what your age.

I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books through NetGalley.
Sanchez Vegara continues to delight with her Little People, BIG DREAMS series. In this volume, she shares the biography of Captain Tom Moore who made the news earlier in 2020 for walking 100 laps in his yard to raise money for front line workers during the pandemic. Readers get a picture of his life from childhood through his military service to his current age (100). The illustrations bring him to life and add to the biography. Informative text is included at the end.

Captain Tom Moore became quite famous in England during Covid. At a rather old age, he completed a challenge and raised a great deal of money for the NHS. Young readers will learn that he wanted to thank the NHS for help hat was given to him after a fall.

Tom is portrayed as a person on the move, from his first steps through military service to his famous Covid help walks. He is seen as a man of character, friendship and loyalty. What a role model for young children!

This adorably illustrated title is another wonderful entry in this series. I recommend it.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

An inspiring story about a man who inspired many and helped raise over 30 million pounds of donations during the COVID-19 crisis. This book contains beautiful illustrations. The story is a little bit choppy, so it was unclear where it was going. It could have used additional text to explain how he raised so much money and gained so much recognition. A solid entry into this series, but would be helped a lot with better text.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

To read the biography (although shortened for children's sake) of a still living hero is AWESOME.

When I read about this guy who went to World War II, I was amazed of him, of his motivations, of his luck to be able to tell us about war. And lo! He's still alive until the time I wrote my review, and surviving this covid pandemic! Just a simple WOW.

So, even though he's not as famous as other people in the series, but Capt Tom Moore is someone you and the children should know about.

This is an inspiring story of a man who worked hard and never gave up in his life. The fact that he also made efforts to raise funds for the global pandemic we are facing now, makes this book a pleasure to read during these trying times when stories of terror and despair seem to loom around. This book is a gem.

I really love this book series, and I especially love the diverse choices of people to focus on! What I loved especially about this one was that it is directly relevant to today, with the final part of the story focusing on Tom Moore now during covid-19!

Captain Tom Moore is another wonderful edition to the Little People, Big Dreams series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. I hadn't actually heard of Tom Moore so this story was all the more special. Reading about his past achievements and current life at age 100 was such a joy. I keep saying I've read my favourite book in the series and then another great one like this is released! Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my digital copy.

Quite the quick turnaround on the publishing of this one! Books can take years to get published. This one was written, illustrated, published and in stores within 7 months. An extraordinary achievement, and the story of an extraordinary man.

On 6 April 2020, aged 99, Captain Sir Tom Moore initially set out to raise £1000 for NHS charities, as his way of saying Thank You to all of the care workers who looked after him during his recent stay in hospital. He was going to do this by walking laps of his garden, 100, 25metre laps by his birthday on April 30th. He actually ended up raising £32,794,701

I love the fact this has been published as part of the Little People, Big Dreams series. A series that has told the story of so many globally well-known people, David Attenborough, Mother Theresa and Elton John, as well as some lesser known, such as Louise Bourgeois or Zaha Hadid. It’s a highly accessible series for young readers, and introduces even the youngest readers to interesting people in all fields. I have had a customer flicking through the books, commenting that she didn’t know many of the names…I don’t see that as a problem, I think that’s exactly the point. Readers, even parents/teachers, are able to broaden their knowledge of remarkable people in a fun and accessible way.

This man, Captain Tom Moore, did an amazing thing, during a time when the world was in crisis. His achievement is current and because of that it will be a popular choice, and hopefully by finding this book, readers will look to the series for the other titles.

This was such a sweet and current story about an extraordinary person I’d never heard of. The illustrations were beautiful, and drove the story forward. I loved getting to know Tom better throughout the story, and was inspired by his willingness to help those around him regardless of his age.

Yay! Another book by the fabulous Maria!

Little People, BIG DREAMS is such a fabulous series. If you haven't grabbed this magnificent children's non-fiction picture book series, get on it! There are so many to choose from and they are all packed full of info, great pictures and inspiration.

This time around, Captain Tom Moore! This young sprout from Yorkshire grew up to join the army and be a source of pride and inspiration. He walked 100 laps around his garden before his 100th birthday, all around the time of a global pandemic. This guy deserves his own book and is an excellent addition to your children's book shelves.

Five out of five stars.

This is another outstanding entry in the series. Captain Tom Moore is a wonderful role model who shows that small acts can make as big of an impact as large ones. It can also be used to spark COVID conversations with younger children.

I really love this book series and the way that it tells the stories of people in a way that children can understand and with beautiful illustrations. I remember hearing about Captain Tom Moore back in April when he was doing his walking and loved what he was doing and I love that they have turned him into a book. It is nice to have books that are of more "normal" people and to tell inspiring stories that we haven't heard before. Overall I really enjoyed this short and sweet book.
