Jacob's Fantastic Flight by Philip Waechter is fanciful, whimsical, and will capture the imagination of any young at heart dreamer. This is a lovely story about a boy who can fly, and while exerting his independence finds a way to help his fellow creatures in the natural world.
While enroute to his own holiday, Jacob happens upon a flock of birds who collectively befriend the young boy, despite his differences. When a birdcatcher snags the hapless Hubert in his net, it is up to Jacob to set his newfound friend free.
This is a beautifully conveyed story that I would be pleased to recommend to young readers.
