A fantastic book, that shows young black children, that they can be anything they want to be and that their colour is not an issue. The book goes on to show examples of black people that are extremely well known - in fact you could almost go as far to say they are heroes.
Fantastic book - that genuinely leaves a feel good feeling while reading it.

This book has positive affirmations with strong black role models showcasing different attributes. For example, one affirmation, "I spread joy like Stevie Wonder" is accompanied by a stylized illustration of the musical artist. My only criticism is that due to the stylized nature of the illustrations, some portraits are easier to recognize than others. That said, it is a book meant for a young child and opens opportunities for caregivers to discuss the people shown. The mirror on the last page is a wonderful addition to this positive, empowering book.

What a beautiful book! Each page features vibrant illustrations of a black icon who has excelled in their field or made historic contributions. From W.E.B. Du Bois to Misty Copeland to Rosa Parks. This would be a perfect gift for new parents or a toddler.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
What an awesome and inspiring book! I love how the author has picked traits that all children have and has matched them to a Black person who embodies that trait. This is a great book that will allow children of colour to see themselves in some of the world's most influential people.

Board Book
I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – Wide Eyed Editions through NetGalley.
Wilson offers encouragement and inspiration to toddlers and their families. Each page highlights an attribute and offers an example from history of someone who exemplifies this trait. Young readers will see themselves in these people and connect to their places in history. Beautiful illustrations attract the eye and add to the message on each page. A great gift for new babies.

I really liked this book and I loved the focus on black icons which would be giving to children to show what they could achieve.
The book is well written and I lived that a variety of people were picked out to give the book a mix of diversity as well - after all you never do know what a young child may go on to achieve and at which point the inspiration comes to them!
The illustrations in the book were great too.
This would be a great gift to give as a present!

Really a book for babies, to boost their confidence that there are blacks that made a name for themselves even though the path is not easy. A book made purposefully to remind color-skinned people that you can hang up your dream as high as you want, because someone did already, and succeed.

What a wonderful book! As an educator, I'm so excited to see such an influx of books geared towards black and brown children. I didn't have these books growing up and I'm so happy that my students won't have that problem.

This is a book that will teach the littlest listeners and lookers that they can aspire to do anything and everything. A child can grow up to “spread joy like Stevie Wonder” or to “reach for the stars” like Mae Jemison and so much more. A number of highly accomplished Blacks from many fields are here in this title including the Obamas, the Williams sisters and others. The illustrations are bright, colorful and represent their subjects well.
I recommend this title for all kids. It is a book that shows how full of amazing achievements people are.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

Representation is important, and it can start as early as infants. To show infants, in this wonderful board book, all the other black men and women who have achieved greatness, followed by a mirror at the end to show that they too can do the same is super encouraging, and will make the child love this book.
A bit American-centric, but Nelson Mandela is included as well as Wangari Maathai. We have the Williams Sisters, Rosa Parks and Katherine Johnson, of Hidden Figures fame.
Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

Rating: 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐!!!!!!!!!
Book: Baby Young, Gifted, and Black
Release Date: January 26, 2021
Author: Jamia Wilson
Genre: Children’s Nonfiction
A baby board book that shows young black boys and girls inspiring people that have paved the way for them. One thing that I loved about this book was that it did not just include the typical heroes Martin Luther King, Jr and Rosa Parks. It also included ones that may be lesser known like Wangari Maathai, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Zadie Smith. The book includes great adjectives, and the illustrations are so vivid. If I had a small baby, I would make sure to include this in their home library but since I don’t, I will be including this in baby shower gifts
