We regret that this electronic galley is not available for Kindle viewing.
A narwhal using its tusk as a selfie-stick, a different sea creature using an electric eel to charge its phone, a baby shark having angler fish 'lamps' and not real candles on his cake – this is a very weird, but very amusingly weird, look at friendship, perseverance and suchlike. So at one point it's gunning towards showing us positivity, the steadfast friend who always has your back and how families might just be the most wonderful thing out, the next it's showing an octopus not sitting comfortably until surrounded by arm rests, or a youth being told to reach for the stars and nabbing lots of innocent starfish. As my examples might imply, it kind of worked more for me with the absurdist humour than with the self-help leanings, but for books like this that aim for such meaty topics of discussion and so often fail, this was a great success, offering many proper laughs. I mean, who knew a hammerhead could also be called a card shark? A strong four stars.

"This is a book about kindness, relationships and love"
I read it in just one sitting. Such a beautiful reading! And such an important message. The thing that first draw me to this book was of course the beautiful illustrations of the cover, I just cannot resist a cute graphic novel. As for the contents of the book, it is perfect for children (and even adults like myself since I enjoyed it so much) who love the sea, since they will learn about beautiful creatures in the nicest way. It is also great for them to learn valuable lessons; friendship, caring and sharing; and they are genuinely funny. The vibe of it was very similar to The Little World of Liz Climo, since both of them are composed of cute (little) animals sharing valuable life lessons.

This was so heart warming! The illustrations were colorful and adorable, the characters were all sorts of hilarious, relatable and silly and overall, the messages in this book were wonderful and important.
This book is all about love and kindness and finding the positives in life. I think this is a great way to get these messages across in a way that any age can find inspiration from this graphic novel! This delivers these positive notes in an easy to digest and fun way. I didn’t want it to end!
This would make an excellent gift!

A cute little comic book following the adventures of a little shark. Not exactly the kind of book I usually read but this one was wonderful. The drawings are simple but expressive. The panels vary from sweet, to silly, to laugh-out-loud funny. Quite a few had me going "awww". More than a few of the illustrations had me saying "I want that on a shirt!" It's a great mood-brightening read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be following the artist on social media so I can have more of his brand of sweet and funny comics.
I received a copy from the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review and I am so glad I did!!

Review to come February 2021 on blog/goodreads.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I have to be honest and say when I saw this book that I wasn't interested in it. I thought it would be a picture book with nice sharks. Not in the mood for that. But then I saw it was a comic, and I was curious. My plan was to read it the next day, but instead I immediately downloaded and started reading it. My hubby who was next to me got curious about what I was reading when I kept showing him pages and so we ending up reading and laughing. We both had a lot of fun.
This book is about animals in the sea (oh and a human who at times pops up on the surface). Mostly we see a shark going through the daily things. Going to work with a fish tie and he becomes the best of friends with him (yes really). Not sure if it is the same shark, but we also see a shark with a little shark, celebrating birthdays and trying to build things (though I would recommend real hammers not hammersharks). But we also meet other animals, from fish who have those little lights in front of them switch from normal lights to Christmas mode, or the narwhal who wants to make a selfie and lets a friend hang a camera on his nose/horn. There is plenty to see and plenty to laugh.
But next to laughing, this book is filled to the brim with positivity, that one should persevere despite the outcome not looking positive, happy message, everyone is helping the others, there are inspirational quotes (I would truly call them that). It gave me a big fluffy feeling and I was definitely in the need for that. With COVID (not sure how bad the situation is when this review goes live in Februrary, but in the end of November things are going up and down and there is still plenty of worry about things) raging around for the past 8/9 months I could definitely use a fluffy and happy blanket of positivity and humour.
The illustrations are fun as well, I love the style and I love how the animals were drawn.
All in all, if you need something funny and inspirational be sure to check out this wonderful and fun book! Recommended!

I have been following Andrès Colmenares for quite a time on Instagram and I absolutely adore his comics. They are very cute and always positive, making me smile even when it’s a rough day. I have always wanted to get my hands on his book A Visual Hug but haven’t had the chance to find it in France yet. So when I saw this new little comic book on Netgalley, I immediately jump on the occasion and, as you may guess it, I couldn’t but read the whole book at once. I definitely will re-read it and buy it if possible.
It made me laugh, it made me smile, it gave me hope for the world we live in. In sum, I loved it. I have nothing more to say. The drawings are cute and colourful and all the short stories are linked by their message: be kind to each other. I recommend it, for yourself and just to gift to someone.

I smiled the ENTIRE WAY THROUGH reading this comic book. At the end my cheeks actually hurt a little bit from smiling, haha. I had to take a picture of a few pages and send it to a friend because it was perfect for them. This is such a cute, silly little book - but the messages in it are really lovely and profound (or as the author would say, "deep" which is why it takes place underwater!) The illustrations are so cute, and I love that there's a balance of comics with deep messages about friendship and self-love and some that are just SO silly (like deep sea anglerfish changing their lights to colored ones for Christmas mode!) I highly recommend this book, and plan to keep a copy around to flip through when I need a pick-me up or a smile.

the best comic EVER!
This is the kind of comic that everyone needs to read. It is just beautiful , clever and funny, a comic full of humor (from adorable to dark humor) but with the same message: love, friendship, understanding.
it is a cinnamon roll made of a book. It's adorable, but at the same time funny, I was with a silly smile throughout the comic. I loved it, period.
super adorable art with humor = LOVE.
#WhenSharksAttackWithKindness is one of the titles that I want to give to everyone.

This is a book full of lighthearted comics about every day life. Taking place in the ocean to present deep thoughts, the author is able to personify many different aquatic creatures and allow them to experience scenarios humans live through all the time. From sharks being matchmakers for humans, to turtles losing friends to the sands of time and then gaining new ones, this book is able to hook the reader with the art-style and personalties given to these creatures. There is also a list of creatures at the beginning, so that the reader will be able to identify them as they swim deep into the sea and enjoy the book in its entirety.

This is one of the best graphic comic collections I have read this year. And considering the number of books I've read from that genre in 2020, that's saying quite a lot!
Set around sea creatures especially sharks, the book espouses the values of friendship, kindness and support. Every single comic conveys a lot.
The entire book has the cutest illustrations that are totally "Awww-inducing". You'll begin to see sharks and other sea animals in a very different light.
Absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to one and all.

This is a sweet book. A collection of cute moments between a shark and his friends, I couldn't help but smile when I looked at the illustrations. Each picture is about friendship and invariably about it is humorous and sweet from a shark taking a selfie to going to a job interview. He and his friends don't have buckets of confidence but they buoy each other up with some kind words and that usually does the trick. A sweet book for the coffee table.

Hahahaha!!! The sea human. That's a fun way of introducing a human in a world of sea animals!
I just love this book so much!
What's up with this colourful pages? I totally fell for the entire book cover to cover!
The illustration is just too cute to handle.
And the comics got me real bad. Because they poke you. Right at your heart. Like hitting the mean spot and turn you back to a better babylike being. We needed something like this. I needed this. Forget the kids who would read this. The adults are going to get this for the kids so the adult here is thoroughly impressed and telling the other adults elsewhere to get this and celebrate this cuteness.
Sharks holding coffee mugs. I mean I never thought I would see it ever. Friendship rules updated and done rightly so!
I repeat the entire book is just too cute. It makes you feel fluffy and soft and kick away all your fake friends.
Thank you, author and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

A fun way to introduce children to some different species of sea animals as well. Cute and inspirational, filled with adorable sea creatures you'll wish lived in your ocean. A great book to read if you're feeling a little low and need a pick-me-up! We follow a shark and his little remora buddy (that doubles as a tie for work!) as they navigate life in the ocean and the creatures they encounter--jellyfish, penguins, starfish and more.

I have been a Wawawiwa fan since a long time ago. I truly love his comics. They’re cute, funny and I’m always marveled by their creativity. I’ve also read some of the comics about shark and his sea friends. So, I was sure I would enjoy this and I wasn’t wrong.
The drawings are sooo cute, I loved the message about friendship, love and positivity (especially this terrible 2020). And I’m so happy that the creator is publishing a book.
the only “bad” thing I can say it’s that I thought it was going to be a continuous full story (don’t know why), but it’s just a collections of comics (and I’ve already seen a few of the illustrations); besides, I couldn’t find the playlist (probably because it’s too early, but still).
So, the book really worth it. I highly recommend it. And, in case you’re still not a fan of Wawawiwa comics, what are you waiting for?

When Sharks Attack With Kindness is probably the most endearing graphic novel I've seen out there. And really, there's no better time for this release than following the events of 2020.
Written and illustrated by Andrews J. Colmenares, When Sharks Attack With Kindness is a collection of sweet, funny, and cute comics. The cast of characters are of the fishy variety – and I mean that literally.
Sharks, fish, turtles, eels, jellyfish, and many other creatures that live in the ocean interact in this collection, and virtually every story has a kind focus. Hence the title of this graphic novel. It's an uplifting read, and one that will guarantee to bring a smile to your face.
I'll confess that I haven't read much of the comic that Andres J. Colmenares is famous for – Wawawiwa Comics – though I have seen it around (all over the place, really). So I didn't have a whole lot of expectations going into this. Yet I was still blown away, having a blast and a half reading it.
It did an excellent job of lifting my spirits, and bringing a smile to my face on multiple occasions. I have no doubt that this is a book I'd happily pick up any time that I was feeling down, because I know that it would help me out. Just like the characters portrayed would.
The artwork is fun and light – just like the stories themselves. Simple but boldly colored backdrops set the scene, while adorable sea critters take center stage. It's a perfect combination, and made When Sharks Attack With Kindness all the more memorable.

This little book is everything that's good in the world.
I already followed @wawawiwacomics on Instagram and knew I was in for an adorable comic book, but reading them one after the other made me realize that they actually tackle very important topics, like love, kindness and friendships, and it does so in a fun, fluffy way that makes you want more. If this was 1000 pages long I would still devour it whole. I just love the good vibes that come from every illustration and want all these characters to be my friends.
Any kid (and grown up) will love this gem of a book. I'm seriously considering getting it for my nephews.

Did this book bring me immense happiness the first time I read it?
Most definitely.
So much so I decided to reread it before I came back and did my review.
And it made my day.
This is the kind of book you hand to a friend who is having a bad day, it has a little bit of everything. From unexpected puns, to hilariously cute misunderstandings, and a pelican showing a shark why they're scary.
It left me with wanting to share it with the world to bring them the same joy I felt.

Colmenares has created a collection of cartoons featuring ocean animals, especially a great white shark and his best friend, a pilot fish. While giving readers snapshots into their lives under the water, Colmenares invites readers to find ways to be a friend to those around you.
Honestly, there is nothing about this book not to like as Colmenares gives readers opportunities to laugh and be inspired by goodness. Every page is full of puns, encouragement, and kindness: the recipe for friendship -- whether under or above water.

This was absolutely precious! With the way 2020 has been going, this is the book to make things just a little bit brighter. Truly, this is so precious and there’s some really hilarious moments. Let me be the first to say that everyone needs to check this graphic novel out as soon as it releases.
From really cute panels to friendships that will warm you heart, this is a graphic novel that will steal your heart. The characters are super cute and the dedication page was so wholesome. This is one of those graphic novels that poke you right in your heart and make you cherish the the friendships you have. Also, I know many readers will probably get this graphic novel for the children in their lives, but let another adult tell you that you need this book as much as children do. It’s just a precious gem of a book that many book lovers are going to fall in love with.
The only thing I think readers might have an issue with is thinking this is going to be a graphic novel with a continuous story. That’s not the case at all with this book. This is a graphic novel that’s designed to make you feel good, feel happy, and pick up the phone and call your friends. That’s the kind of book this is. For me, this wasn’t an issue because this was something I needed. I needed a feel good book to come into my life and wrap me in love, and that’s exactly what this book does.
Overall, I loved this graphic novel so gosh darn much! It’s so wholesome, the feel good book we all need, and just a fantastic pick me up. I highly recommend this to everyone, literally everyone! I think we all need a feel-good book that washes us in warm, fuzzy feelings. And if I could put this in everyone’s hand right now, I would.

I am a fan of the creators of this comic, and I really love it, the humor in each panel is exuberant, and unforgettable, if you are a little depressed or sad this book can get you out of that situation, it is funny, ingenious and the illustrations create a unforgettable atmosphere.

Collection of Wawawiwa comics with no central story line. Familiarity with the online comic (which is a gentle, minimalist cartoon series focused on a series of ocean animal friends) is not needed to enjoy. Suitable for comic fans or as a quirky coffee table book. Fun bonus: This book includes a QR code for a sound file to accompany the book!

Thank you to @netgalley, the publisher and author for gifting me this free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Can I give this book 10 stars?? 100 stars?? No??? Well that's a shame honestly bscause this lovely book deserves every star in this universe.
I follow Mr Colmenares' work on Instagram for a while now and I enjoy every single one of his creations. It's an amazing way to teach children (and remind adults!) about positivity, kindness, love and other emotions.
I'll have to find a way to get this book for me and my family.
I cant recommend it enough.

I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
When Sharks Attack With Kindness is a heartwarming collection of uplifting comics. These comics can be enjoyed by all ages. I have never experienced Wawawiwa comics before, but I will definitely be seeking more out! The friendship, love, positivity, and acceptance displayed in this book are the perfect tonic for 2020.

When Sharks Attack With Kindness is an adorable picture book with short comics about kindness and sealife. I really enjoyed the book and the imagination of sea creatures mixed with modern life. The art style is amazing! I recommend checking out the author and illustrator Andrés J. Colmenares on Instagram (@wawawiwacomics).
As for When Sharks Attack With Kindness, I recommend it if you are looking for an easy read with adorable art and a message of kindness.

When Sharks Attack with Kindness by Andres J. Colmenares, 126 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL. Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2021. $13.
Language: G (0 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: G; Violence: G
BUYING ADVISORY: MS - ADVISABLE
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
