A narwhal using its tusk as a selfie-stick, a different sea creature using an electric eel to charge its phone, a baby shark having angler fish 'lamps' and not real candles on his cake – this is a very weird, but very amusingly weird, look at friendship, perseverance and suchlike. So at one point it's gunning towards showing us positivity, the steadfast friend who always has your back and how families might just be the most wonderful thing out, the next it's showing an octopus not sitting comfortably until surrounded by arm rests, or a youth being told to reach for the stars and nabbing lots of innocent starfish. As my examples might imply, it kind of worked more for me with the absurdist humour than with the self-help leanings, but for books like this that aim for such meaty topics of discussion and so often fail, this was a great success, offering many proper laughs. I mean, who knew a hammerhead could also be called a card shark? A strong four stars.

"This is a book about kindness, relationships and love"

I read it in just one sitting. Such a beautiful reading! And such an important message. The thing that first draw me to this book was of course the beautiful illustrations of the cover, I just cannot resist a cute graphic novel. As for the contents of the book, it is perfect for children (and even adults like myself since I enjoyed it so much) who love the sea, since they will learn about beautiful creatures in the nicest way. It is also great for them to learn valuable lessons; friendship, caring and sharing; and they are genuinely funny. The vibe of it was very similar to The Little World of Liz Climo, since both of them are composed of cute (little) animals sharing valuable life lessons.

This was so heart warming! The illustrations were colorful and adorable, the characters were all sorts of hilarious, relatable and silly and overall, the messages in this book were wonderful and important.

This book is all about love and kindness and finding the positives in life. I think this is a great way to get these messages across in a way that any age can find inspiration from this graphic novel! This delivers these positive notes in an easy to digest and fun way. I didn’t want it to end!

This would make an excellent gift!

A cute little comic book following the adventures of a little shark. Not exactly the kind of book I usually read but this one was wonderful. The drawings are simple but expressive. The panels vary from sweet, to silly, to laugh-out-loud funny. Quite a few had me going "awww". More than a few of the illustrations had me saying "I want that on a shirt!" It's a great mood-brightening read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be following the artist on social media so I can have more of his brand of sweet and funny comics.

Review to come February 2021 on blog/goodreads.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

I have to be honest and say when I saw this book that I wasn't interested in it. I thought it would be a picture book with nice sharks. Not in the mood for that. But then I saw it was a comic, and I was curious. My plan was to read it the next day, but instead I immediately downloaded and started reading it. My hubby who was next to me got curious about what I was reading when I kept showing him pages and so we ending up reading and laughing. We both had a lot of fun.

This book is about animals in the sea (oh and a human who at times pops up on the surface). Mostly we see a shark going through the daily things. Going to work with a fish tie and he becomes the best of friends with him (yes really). Not sure if it is the same shark, but we also see a shark with a little shark, celebrating birthdays and trying to build things (though I would recommend real hammers not hammersharks). But we also meet other animals, from fish who have those little lights in front of them switch from normal lights to Christmas mode, or the narwhal who wants to make a selfie and lets a friend hang a camera on his nose/horn. There is plenty to see and plenty to laugh.

But next to laughing, this book is filled to the brim with positivity, that one should persevere despite the outcome not looking positive, happy message, everyone is helping the others, there are inspirational quotes (I would truly call them that). It gave me a big fluffy feeling and I was definitely in the need for that. With COVID (not sure how bad the situation is when this review goes live in Februrary, but in the end of November things are going up and down and there is still plenty of worry about things) raging around for the past 8/9 months I could definitely use a fluffy and happy blanket of positivity and humour.

The illustrations are fun as well, I love the style and I love how the animals were drawn.

All in all, if you need something funny and inspirational be sure to check out this wonderful and fun book! Recommended!

I have been following Andrès Colmenares for quite a time on Instagram and I absolutely adore his comics. They are very cute and always positive, making me smile even when it’s a rough day. I have always wanted to get my hands on his book A Visual Hug but haven’t had the chance to find it in France yet. So when I saw this new little comic book on Netgalley, I immediately jump on the occasion and, as you may guess it, I couldn’t but read the whole book at once. I definitely will re-read it and buy it if possible.
It made me laugh, it made me smile, it gave me hope for the world we live in. In sum, I loved it. I have nothing more to say. The drawings are cute and colourful and all the short stories are linked by their message: be kind to each other. I recommend it, for yourself and just to gift to someone.

I smiled the ENTIRE WAY THROUGH reading this comic book. At the end my cheeks actually hurt a little bit from smiling, haha. I had to take a picture of a few pages and send it to a friend because it was perfect for them. This is such a cute, silly little book - but the messages in it are really lovely and profound (or as the author would say, "deep" which is why it takes place underwater!) The illustrations are so cute, and I love that there's a balance of comics with deep messages about friendship and self-love and some that are just SO silly (like deep sea anglerfish changing their lights to colored ones for Christmas mode!) I highly recommend this book, and plan to keep a copy around to flip through when I need a pick-me up or a smile.

When Sharks Attack With Kindness is a beautifully illustrated book about a shark and his adventures. Some parts of it were funny and some were sweet. Myself and my 4 year old son enjoyed it immensely.

the best comic EVER!
This is the kind of comic that everyone needs to read. It is just beautiful , clever and funny, a comic full of humor (from adorable to dark humor) but with the same message: love, friendship, understanding.
it is a cinnamon roll made of a book. It's adorable, but at the same time funny, I was with a silly smile throughout the comic. I loved it, period.
super adorable art with humor = LOVE.
#WhenSharksAttackWithKindness is one of the titles that I want to give to everyone.

This. is a cute picture book. I feel this book can be called "early graphic novel". There is no story in it, but all little kindness things Shark does for making friends. Very positive and funny.

This was a fun book and I really enjoyed it.

The illustrations were great and I loved the comments which added just what was needed to bring them to life

Fun and light-hearted and one that genuinely made me smile - just what I needed to pick me up

It is 4 stars from me for this one, some fabulous illustrations and one that made me smile!

This is a book full of lighthearted comics about every day life. Taking place in the ocean to present deep thoughts, the author is able to personify many different aquatic creatures and allow them to experience scenarios humans live through all the time. From sharks being matchmakers for humans, to turtles losing friends to the sands of time and then gaining new ones, this book is able to hook the reader with the art-style and personalties given to these creatures. There is also a list of creatures at the beginning, so that the reader will be able to identify them as they swim deep into the sea and enjoy the book in its entirety.

Wow, I totally didn't expect to love this book. I can't stop smiling throughout the book. It's really simple yet funny and it's filled with puns too! The illustration is SO cute and I'd love to buy a copy for myself when this book comes out.

This was such a sweet comic collection, full of so much charm! I’d recommend it for slightly older kids who want a short a funny introduction to comics.

This is one of the best graphic comic collections I have read this year. And considering the number of books I've read from that genre in 2020, that's saying quite a lot!

Set around sea creatures especially sharks, the book espouses the values of friendship, kindness and support. Every single comic conveys a lot.

The entire book has the cutest illustrations that are totally "Awww-inducing". You'll begin to see sharks and other sea animals in a very different light.

Absolutely loved this book and would recommend it to one and all.

Definitely, I am going to buy this one. I love sharks and I want this to be a goodnight book for my future children. It's unbelievably cute, about friendship and kindness, it's funny, and "I totally misread the situation." made me laugh out loud. Brilliant. More like this, the right dosage of cuteness.

I have been following WawaWiwa Comics for some time now on Instagram. I absolutely love the comics, and the ones included in this book. I will definitely be purchasing this one on release day. I am also hopeful if this one does well, we will see a Visual Hug 1 & 2. As well as other future books.

Every piece of Colmenares' inspires such joy and creativity! Bringing kindness and love to sea creatures and inspiring readers to find the little things in life, this book is incredibly endearing and a perfect gift for yourself if ever in need of a smile or chuckle.

This was really cute and fun! I wasn't aware this was a thing but I'm really glad I found out about it! The format reminded me of Cat's Cafe and it was really cute and a great cheer up! I highly reccomend this one it's cute, it's quirky, it's a quick read, it's inspirational in some way and it's all about friendship!

This is a sweet book. A collection of cute moments between a shark and his friends, I couldn't help but smile when I looked at the illustrations. Each picture is about friendship and invariably about it is humorous and sweet from a shark taking a selfie to going to a job interview. He and his friends don't have buckets of confidence but they buoy each other up with some kind words and that usually does the trick. A sweet book for the coffee table.

Hahahaha!!! The sea human. That's a fun way of introducing a human in a world of sea animals!

I just love this book so much!

What's up with this colourful pages? I totally fell for the entire book cover to cover!

The illustration is just too cute to handle.

And the comics got me real bad. Because they poke you. Right at your heart. Like hitting the mean spot and turn you back to a better babylike being. We needed something like this. I needed this. Forget the kids who would read this. The adults are going to get this for the kids so the adult here is thoroughly impressed and telling the other adults elsewhere to get this and celebrate this cuteness.

Sharks holding coffee mugs. I mean I never thought I would see it ever. Friendship rules updated and done rightly so!

I repeat the entire book is just too cute. It makes you feel fluffy and soft and kick away all your fake friends.

Thank you, author and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

The perfect collection of short*one page* style comics on the topic of friendship+mental health. I smiled throughout the entire book! Simple yet adorable, with the most perfect illustrations! A fun way to introduce children to some different species of sea animals as well. Because I rated so early before release, the soundtrack meant to accompany this was not available to me yet but I imagine it only adds to the experience, I hope to listen to it at a later date!

This is the cutest book!!! The illustrator does the best job at using different aquatic animals to show kindness. I could see this being used in a lower grade to talk about kindness, or have it in a classroom library for older kids to enjoy.

I love this one! Drawings are amazing, every visual hits something sweet, jokes are cute. I would totally buy this for myself or a relative's kid.

I love how they help, appreciate, show love, take care.

It is an underwater utopia. I just love this. I will absolutely follow this author.

Just read this, you will love it too.

Cute and inspirational, filled with adorable sea creatures you'll wish lived in your ocean. A great book to read if you're feeling a little low and need a pick-me-up! We follow a shark and his little remora buddy (that doubles as a tie for work!) as they navigate life in the ocean and the creatures they encounter--jellyfish, penguins, starfish and more.

If you're a fan of Strange Planet, Sarah's Scribbles, Catana Chetwynd, you'll love this comic!

I have been a Wawawiwa fan since a long time ago. I truly love his comics. They’re cute, funny and I’m always marveled by their creativity. I’ve also read some of the comics about shark and his sea friends. So, I was sure I would enjoy this and I wasn’t wrong.

The drawings are sooo cute, I loved the message about friendship, love and positivity (especially this terrible 2020). And I’m so happy that the creator is publishing a book.

the only “bad” thing I can say it’s that I thought it was going to be a continuous full story (don’t know why), but it’s just a collections of comics (and I’ve already seen a few of the illustrations); besides, I couldn’t find the playlist (probably because it’s too early, but still).

So, the book really worth it. I highly recommend it. And, in case you’re still not a fan of Wawawiwa comics, what are you waiting for?

When Sharks Attack With Kindness is probably the most endearing graphic novel I've seen out there. And really, there's no better time for this release than following the events of 2020.

Written and illustrated by Andrews J. Colmenares, When Sharks Attack With Kindness is a collection of sweet, funny, and cute comics. The cast of characters are of the fishy variety – and I mean that literally.

Sharks, fish, turtles, eels, jellyfish, and many other creatures that live in the ocean interact in this collection, and virtually every story has a kind focus. Hence the title of this graphic novel. It's an uplifting read, and one that will guarantee to bring a smile to your face.

I'll confess that I haven't read much of the comic that Andres J. Colmenares is famous for – Wawawiwa Comics – though I have seen it around (all over the place, really). So I didn't have a whole lot of expectations going into this. Yet I was still blown away, having a blast and a half reading it.

It did an excellent job of lifting my spirits, and bringing a smile to my face on multiple occasions. I have no doubt that this is a book I'd happily pick up any time that I was feeling down, because I know that it would help me out. Just like the characters portrayed would.

The artwork is fun and light – just like the stories themselves. Simple but boldly colored backdrops set the scene, while adorable sea critters take center stage. It's a perfect combination, and made When Sharks Attack With Kindness all the more memorable.

This book is so cute 🥰🥰 I fell in love with the illustration and messages the second I started reading it. Thank you, Netgalley, for the eARC! I want to buy this book when it's available in the bookstores in 2021 😍

Highly recommended to all, not only children. Everyone should read this charming and lovely book 🥰

This little book is everything that's good in the world.

I already followed @wawawiwacomics on Instagram and knew I was in for an adorable comic book, but reading them one after the other made me realize that they actually tackle very important topics, like love, kindness and friendships, and it does so in a fun, fluffy way that makes you want more. If this was 1000 pages long I would still devour it whole. I just love the good vibes that come from every illustration and want all these characters to be my friends.

Any kid (and grown up) will love this gem of a book. I'm seriously considering getting it for my nephews.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the e-ARC in exchange of an honest and voluntary review.

I think this is an adorable way to deliver some really important messages about self-love, friendship, kindness. I love the concept of the fish as the shark’s tie. So cute. This is a good coffee table book, or one for an office waiting room. I can’t see someone picking this up and not smiling because of it.

Did this book bring me immense happiness the first time I read it?
Most definitely.

So much so I decided to reread it before I came back and did my review.
And it made my day.

This is the kind of book you hand to a friend who is having a bad day, it has a little bit of everything. From unexpected puns, to hilariously cute misunderstandings, and a pelican showing a shark why they're scary.

It left me with wanting to share it with the world to bring them the same joy I felt.

This review is being published before the release date (March 2, 2021)

This was absolutely precious! With the way 2020 has been going, this is the book to make things just a little bit brighter. Truly, this is so precious and there’s some really hilarious moments. Let me be the first to say that everyone needs to check this graphic novel out as soon as it releases.

From really cute panels to friendships that will warm you heart, this is a graphic novel that will steal your heart. The characters are super cute and the dedication page was so wholesome. This is one of those graphic novels that poke you right in your heart and make you cherish the the friendships you have. Also, I know many readers will probably get this graphic novel for the children in their lives, but let another adult tell you that you need this book as much as children do. It’s just a precious gem of a book that many book lovers are going to fall in love with.

The only thing I think readers might have an issue with is thinking this is going to be a graphic novel with a continuous story. That’s not the case at all with this book. This is a graphic novel that’s designed to make you feel good, feel happy, and pick up the phone and call your friends. That’s the kind of book this is. For me, this wasn’t an issue because this was something I needed. I needed a feel good book to come into my life and wrap me in love, and that’s exactly what this book does.

Overall, I loved this graphic novel so gosh darn much! It’s so wholesome, the feel good book we all need, and just a fantastic pick me up. I highly recommend this to everyone, literally everyone! I think we all need a feel-good book that washes us in warm, fuzzy feelings. And if I could put this in everyone’s hand right now, I would.

I am a fan of the creators of this comic, and I really love it, the humor in each panel is exuberant, and unforgettable, if you are a little depressed or sad this book can get you out of that situation, it is funny, ingenious and the illustrations create a unforgettable atmosphere.

Collection of Wawawiwa comics with no central story line. Familiarity with the online comic (which is a gentle, minimalist cartoon series focused on a series of ocean animal friends) is not needed to enjoy. Suitable for comic fans or as a quirky coffee table book. Fun bonus: This book includes a QR code for a sound file to accompany the book!

I was able to read an ARC of this comic book thanks to NetGalley.

I first encountered these characters and art on Instagram (@wawawiwacomics). At first I thought the drawings were a little simple until I realized how important and deep the message and emotions they share (friendship, positivity and kindness – obviously!) and then I rapidly fell in love with the endearing creatures and their world. When I saw this book was available for review, I jumped at the chance and I was NOT disappointed!

Let’s be honest, usually, a dedication page is pretty boring to read: « thank you spouse, mom and dad, kids and editor ». In this book, I read it TWICE (and made my roommate read it) to fully appreciate the humor of the author and what would undeniably follow! He thanks his family but in such a funny way, describing them as the body of the family (wife as head, children as legs, parents and brother as arms, his readers as feet and himself as COFFEE, because he makes everyone around him feel anxious).

As you read this book, you will discern lessons on friendship, on perspective, on determination, on how to give compliments, on positivity, on living with stressful times, on taking chances and on taking the time to look up at the stars and appreciating beauty… and that’s only in the first 60 pages!

My favourite comics were p.10, because… coffee; p. 15, because art is the eye of the beholder; p.68, because awwww and p.82,83 because… Batman!
My favourite lesson was… What to do when life gets too stressful? SPIN!

When Sharks attack with Kindness is expected to come out March 2nd 2021.

When Sharks Attack with Kindness is the perfect little book to help relieve the anxiety so many of us are feeling in 2020. This comics collection features cute sea creatures with lots of clever and positive messages. Each comic is only a page or 2 long, so it is definitely a collection vs. a continuous story. Many of these adorable vignettes made me smile as I sat reading them with my cup of tea and a fire going in the fireplace. The collection is also totally age appropriate for younger readers but even adult readers will enjoy it if they are looking for a light, uplifting, quick read.

If you're looking for a quick pick me up, look no further.

Adorably illustrated, heart warming and uplifting. The exact thing I needed this year.

After reading a number of the short form comic books that have come out in the last year, I was really excited to pick this one up, especially after reading the synopsis and seeing the art style. This would be the perfect book to flip through if you're needing a quick laugh, smile or pick me up. I loved all the scenarios in this book and the little snippets of friendships and life between the different creatures features (one of my favorites involved penguins, but there were so many good ones!). I especially loved the continuing thread of the main shark and his fish friend as they interacted with other characters and lived their lives. All in all it was fun and heartwarming, sure to put a smile on anyone's face.

I was drawn to the book because of the cover with the shark. Normally I am not particularly fond of sharks but this book was an exception. It is not continuous story but rather separate situations, I didn't mind it here. I read it in one sitting because I just couldn't put it down.

The illustrations are cute and I loved the introduction of the 'sea' human. I am glad I read this at the end of the year, especially after this year. This was just a perfect way to relax and soak up the positive energy.

I was smiling so much when I was reading it. I loved the messages of the book on how to be more positive in life and about friendship.

When Sharks Attack with Kindness
Author & Illustrator: Andrés J. Colmenares
Genre: Graphic Novel
Pages: 128
Publication Date: 3/2/2021

This is a collection of comics about a shark and the various underwater creatures that are his friends. Sharks may be feared but the sharks in this collection show their insecurities and awkwardness. You also get to know many of the friends of the sharks such as narwhal, penguins, clownfish, whales, catfish, electric eels and angler fishe. There is no overarching story – each comic is standalone.

What I loved about this collection:
•The artwork is beautiful, colorful and adorable. It makes me just want to hug these characters and plaster my walls with the prints!
•The stories that this collection depicts are so relatable! It tackles topics like insecurity, loneliness, friendship, and purpose in life but makes them very approachable in a comic format.
•There are also very silly comics that play on names of the sea creatures. They remind me of a bad (good?) Dad joke and made me giggle.
•I read this book in one sitting. I kept telling myself that I just was going to read one more page and then it was over.
•I left this book feeling happy and with a giant smile. It really brightened my night.

I have one small critique of the book. At the end, there is a QR code to a “soundtrack.” I really wish they had put that in the front of the book so I could have listened while reading. (The QR code also didn’t take me to the soundtrack but that may be due to this copy being an ARC.) It’s such a cool concept to have a soundtrack for a book.

I would highly recommend this collection. The artwork is cute and colorful and the comic touches on topics that many can relate to. This graphic novel will brighten your day. I also think it would make a great gift to someone who needs a smile.

Rating: 5/5 stars.

“When Sharks Attack With Kindness” is a heart-warming collection of comics featuring adorable oceanic characters. It is suitable to be enjoyed by all audiences, be it a caregiver reading to a child, or an adult looking for a cute book to relax with.

In these trying times, it can be hard to find a reason to smile. Every comic in this book gives one. A main theme overall is that the smallest positive actions can have large ripple effects. What might seem small and unimportant to one, can have such a large, positive effect on another. Another resounding theme is the importance of friendship, and how two beings, even if very different, can find ways to bond together, despite physical space. These themes are ever more relevant in the world today.

I had seen some of the comics by the author before circulating on the Internet, but was not sure of the source. Now that I know, I have followed him on social media to get more daily doses of joy and positivity. Every page of this book had me laughing, smiling, and feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. Mix that with the most charming little sharks in all the seas… what’s not to love?

This book was amazing, adorable, aesthetic and at least five other adjectives that start with A (amusing, amiable, alacritous…). My partner and I were talking about it for hours after we finished it. It’s a collection of humorous and clever 1-3 page comics about kindness, friendship, and sea creatures. This book really has something for everyone who doesn’t hate friendship. I can’t begin to tell you which were my favorite comics; they were all so good that I’ve already preordered a physical copy. This is definitely a collection worth owning and revisiting.

There are lots of shark 'friends' in the images, such as narwhal, penguins, clownfish, whales, catfish, electric eels, and all the pages me smile, with some even making me giggle. I loved it!

It deals with topics of loneliness, friendships, helpfulness and love,

A wonderful, uplifting picture book not limited to children. I found myself smiling the entire way through and particularly admired the interactive portion at the end for music ambiance. 10/10 recommend for everyone who needs a pick-me-up or just wants to have a smile :)

When Sharks Attack with Kindness had me laughing from beginning to end. With each page, Colmenares brings hope to the reader, showing the little ways that we can all show kindness to one another. While we may not be able to pose as a tie for our friends when they go to an interview, or every day at work, the sweet moments shown in this short book will give you the encouragement to remember the little things in life that can help others, or even make you feel better. Perfect for Strange Planet fans and animal lovers, When Sharks Attack with Kindness will be sure to bring a smile to anyone's face.

Andrés J Colmenares is a wonderful artist and this book is a celebration of not only that art but also love and friendship. This is the perfect book when you need a gift for a friend or gift for yourself. The comics will make you laugh, and aww, and want to start attacking life with kindness.

If you are looking for a comic series about love, kindness, friendship, and positivity, look no further than this one. This adorably bright and happy book follows sea creatures and a "sea human" in their day to day and the kindness and love they share with each other. It is so cute and inspiring and I loved every single strip and spread. Some pages were interactive and there were pages to introduce all the animals that would be throughout the book.

It will hit you right in the feels with every page turn. I won't give specifics because I really don't want to spoil anyone's experience with this book. It is worth a look, a flip through, and a read and a few times when you need some happy in your life. This was a good time for this book to be released and I hop that everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

Review will be live on February 25, closer to release date.

I absolutely loved this book. The comics in this book were truly uplifting and I had a smile on my face throughout the entire thing. Some of the comics also made me laugh out loud which I was not expecting. I cannot recommend this book enough.

An adorable, heartfelt collection of comics about a shark and his friends, who go through life being kind to one another and spreading happiness wherever they go. 2021 is barely a month in and it's already been terrible, so these wholesome undersea comics are just the thing everybody needs right now. Earth is such a beautiful place, because it's where we live, everyone. It's where we live <3

When Sharks Attack With Kindness is a wholesome collection of short comics following a shark and his deep sea friends and they go on there daily adventures and spread optimisation throughout the whole ocean.

I honestly don’t believe that I have come across a collection of comics or short storys more heart warming and uplifting than these. The artwork is adorable and fits in with the cute theme running throughout the book. There is even the bonus of a playlist QR given at the very end of the book. It’s extremely easy reading, but at the same time it will put even the grumpiest person in a happy mood as the characters are just so easy to fall in love with and will stick with you for a long time post-book. I personally feel that with all the negativity going around the world right now, this book is perfect to snuggle up for 20 minutes with a hot drink and just escape to somewhere more pleasant and peaceful.

The only thing you will have an issue with this one is cuteness overload!! I loved this one from page one and any little boy or girl for that matter will fall in love with the humor and artwork. It was a perfect little book about how to make friends even when it seems unlikely.

What an absolutely delightful book. I loved every second of this beautifully drawn book about the creatures that live in the sea and how they choose kindness over being mean [think scary sharks etc] and how they can help each other have better days when they are sad or frustrated. This is a perfect way to get kids to talk about their feelings and what scares them or makes them sad or whatever is going on in their lives [and heaven knows we need more things that help us be open about all the struggles that we are all currently facing in this world today]. It is so well-done and lovely and I enjoyed every second of this book and immediately added it to my wish list because I need to own this to be able to go back myself and remind myself that I have friends around me when I am sad and that better days are ahead if we only look for them.
Absolutely fantastic!!

Colmenares' Wawawiwa comics are some of my favorites to see on my social media feeds. The illustrations exude love and kindness, and the messages are always hopeful. When Sharks Attack with Kindness has some comics that have been published online, and some new to this collection. They are all charming and heartwarming, funny and inspiring. Colmenares has a way of turning perspectives around to see the brighter side of life, but not in a saccharine way. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a hug via comic.

Thanks to NetGalley for a free digital copy for review, all opinions are my own.

Thank you for the e-arc NetGalley. As a lover of all thing in the ocean this just was the sweetest book. All the critters have these adorable personalities that jump off the pages. Beautifully written and illustrated (and I’m a sucker for good typography and this has it). I’d look at this again and again when I am having a rough day and I’m sure it would cheer me right up.

Love the artwork, everything is so cute. There is a great mix of humor and inspiring life reminders that can be appreciated by all ages.

This is similar to " The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse" but with more humor. Can really see coming back to this book again and again to read to my son.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book for review.

I know its only February but I don't think I'll regret already calling this one of my favorite books of 2021. Sweet, bright, heartwarming, and funny - this book is a balm for the soul. The only thing that disappointed me was that it was over so quickly. The soundtrack (a code for which is at the end of the book) is also just as comforting and relaxing.

A pure and simple delight.

Delightful comics that capture the heart of friendship. Colmenares offers readers a window into the love and support friends offer each other. Readers will identify with the universal themes and enjoy the fun and truth when they see these underwater characters interact. A kind book when we need more kindness in our world.

What an adorable book! Cute marine animals being happy and supportive is exactly the kind of thing I need to cheer me up when I'm down (or just whenever). Even though they're told via adorable sea creatures, the underlying messages of friendship, love, and support are universal.

Sharks are just the sweetest cutie pies in the whole wide world. Amiright?

Seriously, everyone needs a bit of positivity and kindness and love in their life. Especially in times like these. Oh, and the funny. You definitely need some of the funny.

And a lot of these mostly one or two panel comics are pretty funny. Okay, many of them are not particularly realistic. Life often sucks. There’s no way around it. Unless there is. Like here. I think I just needed this book right now. It made me feel all warm and fluffy, and besides all the content smiles it also made me laugh out loud a couple of times.

Today is a lovely day. With sharks. :)

This book is adorable!! It’s a book about positivity and friendship, told with ocean creatures. A recurring theme is that you are never alone, which is just so important to remember during these isolating times. The friendships are sweet, the illustrations are cute, and the comics are funny. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book! My son loves sharks and I’ll be buying him a print copy when it releases!

From Andrés J. Colmenares, creator of wawawiwa comics (@wawawiwa on twitter and instagram), comes an illustrated collection of sharks attacking - with kindness!

If the concept sounds silly, it totally is, but in the best way possible. The comics featured here share Colmenares's signature mix of adorableness and absurdity (an avocado playing fetch with a dog, anyone?), with a heaping dollop of compassion that's the perfect balm for the dumpster fire that has been the past one-to-four years. Colmenares's sea creatures are sweet, good-natured, and okay maybe a little sappy, but I am so here for it. Like wawawiwa comics, reading WHEN SHARKS ATTACK WITH KINDNESS is an act of self-care.

The anti-speciesist in me also loves to see sharks portrayed as something other than mindless killing machines. WSATW is the antithesis of Shark Week.

Semi-serious content warning for pages 64-65, which involve a weirdly macabre comic starring a long-lived turtle and her dying octopus friend that seems a wee bit out of place in this otherwise light and happy book. (Emotional ambush much?)

I love this mini-comics.
The author is so creative and he has a great imagination.

I love the relationship between the shark and the little fish (his tie). They are so cute.

I love everything about this compilation of comics. But I specially love the originality of the author.

I know I said so many time the word "love" but I really really loved this beautiful work.

A couple of years back, I read Loading Penguin Hugs: Heartwarming Comics from Chibird, and immediately got on Amazon and sent copies to a couple of friends of mine. Since then, I've kept an eye out for similar books, that did the job of making my friends laugh and letting them know how much I love and value them.

Pretty sure my friends are about to get a new book for themselves.

Humor, puns, love, friendship, kindness, optimism. Everything needed in the 2020's can be found in this sweet, short little collection of comics. I can't recommend it enough.

A series of cartoons where marine creatures learn to be kinder and encourage each other. Super sweet messages and a gorgeous art styles. Applicable for all ages. Each page would be a nice print on it’s own. Some of it did feel a little young but a nice reminder all the same.

A cute book showing children to be nice to others to gain friendship. I like that it had a page showing the different marine animals and what they are called. The illustrations were adorable too!

I found this book absolutely delightful. It was cute and relatable and even though a couple of the jokes were a bit corny overall it was wonderful. I would definitely buy this book for friends as a thoughtful way of expressing my friendship. The illustrations were adorable and I'd love to get some prints made of a few of them.

Thanks to Netgalley and Andrew McNeill Publishing for sending me a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

When Sharks Attack With Kindness by self-taught artist and author Andrés J. Colmenares offers readers a sweet and gentle trip under the sea. We spend a lot of time with Great White Shark, who is soon given an unlikely companion in the form of a little fish that later poses as his necktie.

Colmenares' illustrations are adorable. I particularly love the deliberate soft round shapes of the Great White and the Whale shark. So cute!

Readers will find comics with a cute punchline here, as well as some gentle life advice. The pages that stuck with me the most were the story of the turtle, who outlives his friend the octopus, and the Great White noticing that the most precious treasure is the rock he met his best friend! Colmenares' humour varies from puns and gags to clever twists (I loved the Shark Tank reference).

The author even makes a couple of brief cameos in the book as a human self insert!

Readers will also enjoy a playlist of songs to accompany this book by scanning a QR code. I read it via the Netgalley app so I wasn't able to, but I am curious as to what's on there!

Perfect for fans of wholesome online comics, much like one of my 2020 faves, Cat's Cafe Comics.

This is very cute and sweet. Nothing mind-blowing here, but it will hopefully bring smiles to some people's faces. It's nice for keeping it on your bedside table and reading a comic or two a day. Will appeal to fans of other web/instagram comics of a similar type, like Strange Planet, Poorly Drawn Lines, Liz Clomo, etc.
