I didn't like this one quite as much as 'Little Red Reading Hood' but it was still an adorable story about the three little pigs forming a friendship with the big bad wolf. I loved the illustrations and I will definitely be recommending it to my patrons.

I received an e-arc of this book from Macmillan Children’s Books in exchange for an honest review.

Ben and his mom are reading the story of The Three Little Pigs before bed one night when she has to answer a call in the middle of the story. Ben is quite eager to finish the story - as are his unexpected guests - the pigs from the story! Soon after their arrival, they are trying to figure out how to finish the story so that they may go to sleep, when the big bad wolf also arrives!

I love a good retelling of a classic story and The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Book is a charming and fun retelling to be sure. I absolutely loved the twist of the reader of the story within the book being involved in this retelling and the illustrations are so beautiful and captures the story so well. I will be adding this book to my classroom library as I am sure that it will be a big hit with students.

Thank you to Macmillan Children’s Books for sending me this book.

The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Book is a charming story time book that plays with the iconic tale of The Three Little Pigs. Like many young children, Ben loves a story before bed but things go off-page when his mom is called away before finishing the story. When the characters from the book show up, they get to choose how they want their story to end.

From the first glance, I was eager to read this title. Ben Mantle is a fantastic illustrator who catches both your eye and interest with his warm playful style. It's always fun to see titles play with well-known fables, so the concept of the tale coming to life before a reader was especially intriguing. A huge fan of rhyme schemes, I was absolutely delighted by that of this book. It was a joy to read aloud and I would definitely recommend for a fun bedtime story.

The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Book is a great story about a boy named Ben and his nighttime story that goes a little off track. This is a great tie-in with the classic children's tale and familiar characters. My mini readers and I give it ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5...or 🐖🐖🐖🐖/5.

I really enjoyed the rhyming lines and the fun little twist! It's as fun to read aloud as is to look at. The illustrations are modern with a whimsical feel. My daughter loved seeing the colourful pages match the storyline.

Thanks to the publishers Macmillan Children's Books and Publishers Group Canada for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.

This is a fun take on the story of the Three Little Pigs. I really like how it tells a story in a story - it will make a great example for students when they are learning how to write their own narrative pieces.

I loved Ben Mantle’s illustrations and simply adored the way Lucy Rowland retold the story of the three little pigs. I have attended a workshop in January about honouring children’s equity and diversity through the power of storytelling and one of the children’s books we discussed at length was the three little pigs as it is one of many stories that did not quite age well and how could we make it more inclusive.

This book did just that! It focused on the power of teamwork and kindness while instilling the love of reading into children! Not to mention, I love rhymes as they make it so much more fun to tell the story and Lucy’s writing was amazing!

We have a follow up session 2 days after this book’s release! I cannot wait to share this book with other educators as they will be able to order it! I am also going to be checking Lucy and Ben’s other retellings as I am sure they will be as good as this one!

I just wanted to add that before I was an educator, I was a mum, and this is the book that would have made it into my son’s shelves as well. I believe that literacy and the love of reading is a gift any parent can and should give their children and books like these are how we do it!

Thank you, Lucy Rowland, Macmillan Children’s Books and NetGalley for allowing me to read The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Book ahead of its release in exchange for an honest review.

I read this to my bf because this looked like such a cute book but I had no children to read it to haha. This is a cute retelling of the Three Little Pigs with a twist of what happens to the Big Bad Wolf. The artwork is so colourful and I love all the background details like the pictures on the staircase wall of the vampire and Little Red Riding Hood (I think). The rhyming sequence also makes it so much fun to read aloud. This is a great story for children and I highly recommend it :)

A really cute retelling of the three little pigs featuring a young Black boy and some really gorgeous illustrations. Great diverse fairy tale adaptation for young readers.

This book is pure magic from the moment you open the work until you come to the last page. The illustrations are absolutely incredible and are filled with lots of detail making re-reading the book a pleasure every time. The rhyming scheme is also perfect for read alouds and there's a wonderful twist ending that breathes new life into this timeless tale.
