Description

A series of misadventures leaves college sportswriter James Hoak’s career in peril. Only his arch-enemy, a mysterious beach bar owner, and the magic of rock & soul can save him.

It’s the month of May at Blue Ridge University, a bucolic campus nestled in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. As his friends prepare for their senior beach trip, quick-witted sports columnist James Hoak lands a coveted summer internship at a national weekly magazine, Sporting America—a guaranteed pipeline to a full-time job.

If he graduates next May.

But in a freak mishap involving a Sting-Ray bicycle, BRU’s Heisman Trophy winner, Marvelavious Hall, injures his knee.

The accident could wreck Hall’s career, costing him millions.

And Hoak—who loses his tuition money in the process—is responsible.

Now broke, Hoak can’t pay for his fifth year of college. And with no degree, he has no pipeline to a full-time job.

He must raise eight thousand dollars in four days, before the internship begins, or he’s toast.

What better place to raise the cash than the beach?

The pressure’s on. His career is riding on it. And Marvelavious—and the magic of rock and soul—might be his only path to salvation.

If you enjoyed Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar books, the movie FLETCH, the work of Dan Jenkins, or any fast-paced adventure with a touch of raunchy humor, you’ll love the AMERICAN SPORTSWRITER series, and it all starts here.

I really liked this book. It's a fun, easy read about a college student and his friends. Hoak, the main character wants to be a sports writer, but a series of events of his own doing turn his final year of school into an unforgettable adventure. As I was reading it, I thought to myself that it' make a great college themed coming of age type movie.. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series called The Honor Tap

Note: I've downloaded a bunch of free, (mostly) random, pre-releases of books with the idea of expanding my range and helping authors get reviews. #netgalley
