"Feels like a blockbuster movie"—Lisa Jewell

"A nail-biter of a thriller."—Shari Lapena

The explosively addictive locked-room thriller from New York Times bestseller Clare Mackintosh!

You can save hundreds of lives, or the one that matters most...

A claustrophobic thriller set over twenty hours on one airplane flight, with the heart-stopping tension of The Last Flight and the wrenching emotional intensity of Room, Hostage takes us on board the inaugural nonstop flight from London to Sydney.

Mina is trying to focus on her job as a flight attendant, not the problems of her five-year-old daughter back home, or the fissures in her marriage. But the plane has barely taken off when Mina receives a chilling note from an anonymous passenger, someone intent on ensuring the plane never reaches its destination. Someone who needs Mina's assistance and who knows exactly how to make her comply. It's twenty hours to landing. A lot can happen in twenty hours.

Clare Mackintosh did not disappoint! Hostage is the intense, exciting, on the end of your seat thriller that has made me love her books. The multiple character perspectives helped you connect with what each person was going through and as well as added the suspense of trying to solve the mystery of who was involved. This is definitely a book I will be hand-selling for years to come!

Clare Mackintosh is one of those authors whose books I will always read; she never disappoints. Like her other novels, Hostage is a wild ride - you'll want to make sure you have plenty of uninterrupted reading time because you will not be able to stop turning the pages. Mina is a flight attendant who has to make an impossible choice on an inaugural nonstop flight from London to Sydney - you'll wonder how you would have reacted in the same situation. Mina's decision sets off a crazy series of events that will keep you guessing throughout the book. If you are looking for a thriller, this is your book. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you to NetGalley and to Sourcebooks Landmark for the advance e-copy.

This was an incredible novel! This is the first novel I have had the opportunity to read by Clare MacIntosh and it will not be my last. It gripped me from the very beginning! The characters were moving and relatable, especially Mina and Adam’s relationship, which was told in alternating perspectives. Even the passenger perspectives were amazing and how they tied into the greater plot of the story. I did not see the greater ending coming. It was that well-written. Cannot wait to pick up more by Clare MacIntosh. So grateful to have received the ARC from #NetGalley! #Hostage

Phenomenal! This explosive locked-room thriller has everything a reader could want in this genre: murder, mystery, morally grey areas, and a very empathetic heroine. Mina is a mother first, but when someone presents her with an anonymous note while on her most recent flight, she’s forced to choose between the passenger’s lives, or the one life that matters most.

Interspersed with chapters from the perspective of various passengers on the plane, you really get a feel for the setting and the characters; I was on the edge of my seat feeling as if I was watching the book on a movie screen.

Riveting and tense, Hostage is an absolute knockout.

If you are looking for a chill ride, look no further then this book. This is an edge-of-your seat thriller with enough turbulence to keep you bouncing.

How do you decide for the life of your child or hundreds of passengers under your care on a maiden non-stop flight from London to Sydney? That is the dilemma faced by Mina as terrorists take control of the jet. Back home, her husband and daughter are sucked in to this macabre plan, while the leader hides in plain sight.

Pull those seatbelts tight. This is one landing you don’t want to miss. Plus the aftermath.....you are in for an unexpected surprise.

There's nothing even remotely friendly about these skies. Hostage takes place during a harrowing 20 hour nonstop flight from London to Sydney (with flashbacks and multiple POV's). When terrorists take over the plane flight attendant Mina is faced with a King Solomon choice: give into their demands to save her daughter back in London, but knowing it will doom the passengers and crew of World Airlines flight 79, or sacrifice her daughter for the hundreds of innocent souls onboard. Some of Hostage's "flight pattern" (plot) is predictable-not unexpected given the brief time frame and 50/50 circumstances (either the plane crashes or it doesn't), but in typical Clare Mackintosh fashion there's several twists even a psychic won't see coming. Fans of Miss Mackintosh know the key to unraveling her novels is literally reading between the lines-sometimes what she doesn't say reveals more that what she does. The writing is sharp enough to cut glass, and while the characters could become cliches (everybody has a secret-especially Mina and her wayward husband), delicately placed revelations n the backstory keep the suspense coming even after the fate of flight 79 is sealed. Like her previous novels, there's hidden meaning in the title-the true identity of the "hostage" is poignant and provocative. So pack your bags and prepare for take off. This may be the only time you'll beg to be taken Hostage!
