Description

"The Conscience of An Agnostic" is an exploration of religion, the universe, and spirituality. The book's premise is that it is simply impossible to determine, with any degree of confidence, as to whether there is a transcendent, creative being which is responsible for the existence of the universe. The conclusion that inevitably flows from this realization is that agnosticism is the most intellectually honest position to espouse. Throughout the course of this book, the author also examines the randomness of our existence. “In my opinion, God requires intensive psychotherapy in order to cure Him of His homicidal tendencies.”

This is not an academic discussion of agnosticism, but more so a survey of modern objections to Christian theological thought. Reading like an informal discussion with a friend, Cooper presents theological issues regarding slavery, mass shootings, natural disasters, and more. Though not academic, per se, Cooper discusses relevant historical case studies for each of his arguments. If you enjoy the philosophy of religion, you will enjoy this quick, easy, and at times humorous read.
