When I first began to read this book, it had a somewhat depressing feel to it. But as I began to go deeper into the book, I was able to see that the author wanted to take the reader on a journey that starts in the valley of struggle/despair, and moves through the wilderness of reflection & introspection, and later ends up in an oasis of faith, hope, and love. As a self-described Ragamuffin Christian, I've often found myself struggling with my purpose, my faith, and my self-worth as a human being.

Fortunately, when I return to the manual for living (aka “The Holy Bible”), I’m reminded that I am not alone, and most important of all, that I am loved by the One who knows me best. What I loved most about this book is that not only does the author relay the resounding message of love and hope in a refreshing way, but also that he wasn't preachy, nor was he legalistic in conveying that message.

This was a book filled with lyrical longing for wholeness and a deeper relationship with the One who loves us all as we are, where we are. Although some may not want to engage our Creator in a relationship, He still loves us and wants us to seek after a relationship with Him.

For me, this was basically a book of Lamentations for the Christian Soul that is a clarion call for us to reexamine who we are as believers, what our motives are, and the state of our relationship with the One who loves us most of all.

I highly recommend this book for those who are looking for a Christian Living/Theological Commentary that has more substance than fluff and/or flash.
