Carina Adores is excited to offer this special preview of Meet Me in Madrid by Verity Lowell. We hope you enjoy reading chapters 1-4!
In this sexy, sophisticated romantic comedy, two women juggle romance and career across continents.
Charlotte Hilaire has a love-hate relationship with her work as a museum courier. On the one hand, it takes her around the world. On the other, her plan to become a professor is veering dangerously off track.
Yet once in a while, maybe every third trip or so, the job goes delightfully sideways…
When a blizzard strands Charlotte in Spain for a few extra days and she’s left with glorious free time on her hands, the only question is: Dare she invite her grad school crush for an after-dinner drink on a snowy night?
Accomplished, take-no-prisoners art historian Adrianna Coates has built an enviable career since Charlotte saw her last. She’s brilliant. Sophisticated. Impressive as hell and strikingly beautiful.
Hospitable, too, as she absolutely insists Charlotte spend the night on her pullout sofa as the storm rages on.
One night becomes three and three nights become a hot and adventurous long-distance relationship when Charlotte returns to the States. But when Adrianna plots her next career move just as Charlotte finally opens a door in academia, distance may not be the only thing that keeps them apart.
Carina Adores is home to highly romantic contemporary love stories where LGBTQ+ characters find their happily-ever-afters. Discover a new Carina Adores book every month!

Thank you NetGalley for the preview of this book. I REALLY enjoyed the first four chapters. The women are intelligent and mature. Issues such as race and sexism where discussed in a natural and thoughtful manner which I enjoyed. While only a teaser of the book, it did not disappoint on the steam. I am already attached and rooting for this relationship. I am so excited for the release of this debut from Verity Lowell!
I loved this so much more than I thought I would from the blurb! The first four chapters have left me wanting more and I am definitely interesting in reading the entire novel. A sapphic snowed-in romance? Sign me up! What I've read so far is sexy, smart, and fun, and contemporary romance readers will love this. Thank you Carina Press and NetGalley for the chance to read this preview in exchange for my honest review.
The first four chapters of this book instantly hooked me! The characters are charming and intriguing and the way they interact leaves me wanting to read more of the book. I also really appreciate that even though it's early on in the book, they're having important discussions of racism in the workplace. I can't wait to read the full book and see what happens next! Thank you to NetGalley for this preview.
Thank you to NetGalley for the preview of this book! The main characters are both very mature and I liked the discussions about racism and sexism. It has more descriptions than dialogue for sure, but it's so well done that it paints a very lively picture. I really enjoyed reading these first four chapters and I will definitely be on the lookout for the full story!
This was a good preview, I absolutely flew through it and really had me wanting more - I’ve already went ahead and pre-ordered a physical copy. I can’t wait to see what happens next! I enjoyed the characters so far and I’m already rooted for the two of them. The ‘reunion’ trope is one of my favourites as well, so I can’t wait to read more!
this was an amazing preview and i'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this book when it's published. though only four chapters, this preview left you wanting more. the two characters were great on their own, both independent women in their own right. however, when together, there is this undeniable chemistry between the two of them that just lead to sparks flying off the page. everything was pretty fleshed out considering the limited length. the characters weren't flat, the plot was well on its way, and everything was well-written. it held my attention pretty well and i can confidently say that i'd love to read the rest of the book when it comes out!
Thank you, NetGalley, for the preview of this book. I had my eye on it for a little while, since I'm always interested in f/f books with BIPOC characters, but this extended preview increased my excitement by a lot. It's Lowell's debut, so I didn't know if I would like her writing style, but Lowell's prose is clean and beautiful and the writing is full of details that makes me believe in these character's chemistry instantly. I hate that I have to wait until October, because I can't wait to read this book.
This was my first time reading Verity Lowell, and I'm so glad I could get a sneak peek into her next book, Meet Me in Madrid! I love a good second chance romance story, and this book does not disappoint! It's fast-paced, which I love. We see Adrianna and Charlotte reconnect right off the bat. Wine and a snowstorm ensue, leaving them with the only obvious option-- get snowed in together. While the romance aspect of this book is perfectly steamy, Lowell also fits in topics around race and sexism without it seeming weirdly out of place. It was actually a breath of fresh air! I'm so happy I was able to get a preview of this novel, and I can't wait to read where Adrianna and Charlotte left off!
This was an amazing preview and I am so excited to read the rest of the book! Both characters are wonderful and as someone who has lived in Spain before, I love the setting!
The 4 chapters were delightful. It only made me want to pick up the book more. I can’t say much but what I can say is the writing is flawless and it follows two black queer academic students who somehow someway reunite in Madrid. It seems beautiful and I cannot wait to get more of these characters in the full book. 5 out of 5 stars for those chapters of course!
