Sweet fun book. Well summarized. Not right for the classroom but a fun book to at home with a young child.

A very simple retelling of The Jungle Book suitable for toddlers and preschoolers, this book will surely capture attention due to its cutouts and flap-style design. The colors of the illustrations are so brightly saturated and the detail in each picture is fascinating. Young readers will enjoy finding all the small details on each flap and seeing how the illustrations are tied together with strategic punch-outs on each page.

Due to the interactive nature of the book, this would be best suited to small group or one-on-one reads. An adult reading partner should be available if trying this as an independent read since early readers will likely need support to decipher the unique character names. This is sure to be a popular addition to school and classroom libraries for pre-K and early elementary.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

I love the way this book is layered and it will be a great board book in print! With all the vibrant colors and all the cool animals I think kids will definitely love this. I know I did.

This story was very well written and my 5.5 and almost 3 year old both loved listening to me read it and loved looking at the pictures. This is a very cute picture book and was well illustrated and we loved pointing out the different animals and other things we found in the scene!

I really liked the bright colors and the condensed telling of the jungle book. The varying sizes of the pages help provide some additional engagement for younger readers, my son likes turning the pages himself so (I assume this is a board book) the different sized pages would help him grasp them easier. It also helps add movement to the story which is a nice element. The only thing that makes it difficult is learning the characters so quickly in the short story - however I don’t know how you get around that while still telling the story

“The Jungle book” by Carly Madden is an interesting book which reveals the strong concepts of compassion and consideration so nicely and playfully. This author has done a great job of depicting empathy to the kids in this story.

I received an e-arc of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I’m a big believer in board books and that they are not just for babies and toddlers. We own many board book versions of school aged picture books - it makes them more durable and thereby more accessible from a younger age. Reading small children more challenging texts in format they can grow into is an excellent way to raise a reader. Layered board books are always fascinating to children. I read this book with my 5 and 8 year old children who found it engaging. The story line sticks to the traditional version. The illustrations and phrasing keep the book feeling fairly gender neutral and easily accessible. 5/5 Well done.
