The illustrations are beautiful and the story is simple but falls just a little flat for older readers. It drew the attention of my toddler and they enjoyed it and wanted to see others in the unicorn series.

This is the second book we read in the Unicorn Stories series.

Jessica Rose's colours and drawings are very girlish, and the story is about a little girl looking for her cat, so this is just the perfect picture book for my daughter. There are no big dramas or teachings in it, but the text is ideal for reading out and the illustration is stunning.

Many thanks to NetGalley and West 44 books, Windmill Books for this Review Copy.

This is an adorable story about a little girl who is trying to find her lost cat before going to bed. I think kids can relate to this. My daughter used to do the same thing when she was younger and could not go to bed until she had her cat with her. The story tells of the adventure of a unicorn helping her to find her lost buddy and all of them eventually cuddling up to0gether at the end. The illustration was beautiful and really helped to tell the story.

Thanks to NetGalley and West 44 Books for access to this ARC.

3.5 stars

THE UNICORN AND THE LOST CAT by Claire Phillip, and illustrated by Jessica Rose is a children’s story book focusing on a young girl named Elsie, ,her missing cat Charlie , and a unicorn named Comet.

It’s bedtime, and Elsie’s cat is missing but with the help of a unicorn named Comet, they go in search of Charlie.

Told from third person perspective, the images are bright, plenty of feminine colors of pinks, blues and purples; the text is simple but the font often changes in the middle of a sentence, possibly for emphasis but with no particular rhyme or reason.

THE UNICORN AND THE LOST CAT is a quick read; a child’s dream; an imaginative story.

I will definitely recommend this book! The length was perfect as the reading time was not too long to lose the kid's interest. Also, the art is beautiful. I stopped to watch the details on each page. As for the story, it is nothing too original since many children's books follow the same plot with some variations but it is a winning formula! It is cute, magical and perfect for children

As Elsie is getting ready for bed she realizes that her cat Charlie is missing. Unable to sleep she peeks out her window and sees a unicorn in her garden! With the help of Comet she is flying in the sky with hopes of finding Charlie.

I thought this was a cute and entertaining children's book. My six year old daughter enjoyed reading it to me. It was a bit too long for her and I had to take over reading the last few pages. She loved the colorful illustrations and all things related to unicorns. Overall a good read for children wanting to take a magical journey.

Thank you Netgalley and Windmill Books for the opportunity to read this book.

A sweet story featuring a little girl, her. cat and a unicorn! I loved the illustrations and whimsy typography. I'm sure it will be a good read-aloud for any baby and as they grow, they will love to pore over the drawings and words. A sweet and simple adventure story. No morals or lecturing.

Thank you to the author, NetGalley and Windmill Books for this book!.

This was such a sweet book. I read it to my 5 year old and she really enjoyed it. The illustrator did a fantastic job. We loved all of the other animals included in the pictures. This book is a story about a girl who lost her cat and the journey she takes to find her furry friend. I think it is exactly what a young child might imagine doing if they couldn’t find their favorite pet.

My granddaughter loves unicorns, so we grabbed this book to read together. Elsie is a young girl who's cat is missing. She is worried about Charlie outside alone at night. As she gets ready for bed, she looks out the window to see if he is in the garden, but instead she sees a unicorn. She heads outside and meets, Comet, a flying unicorn who wants to help her find Charlie. Flying over the neighborhood and countryside, she is able to spot Charlie and they swoop on to bring him home. We thought this was a cute story, especially for anyone who loves unicorns and cats too. The 8 year old read parts of it to his sister, but thought it was a "girly story". The illustrations were colourful, done in pastels, specifically pinks, lavenders and light blues. My granddaughter loved the illustrations and the adventure, especially riding a flying unicorn and rescuing Charlie. Overall a good read for children wanting to take a magical journey. It also makes a good read aloud for younger children.

I read this to two of my nieces, one who loves unicorns and 1 who loves cats, so this was a double-win in our family. A great lesson on responsibility which is hard to come by nowadays.
