A pharmacy storage room. The grim sight of the body of a youngster, eyes frozen into black holes and face livid. From the top of his ear spreads a bloody gunk – it’s clear that the Grim Reaper has taken his bounty.
Nurse and pharmacist Sanna Blinck has had to learn to live her life as a strong, independent woman. Being a widower and an entrepreneur has meant honing her instincts and relying on her own gut. When her life is turned upside down by a vortex of events after coming upon the scene of a crime, she finds that the ghosts of her past have come to life.
Using her wits to gain the trust (and love) of the policeman in charge of the murder investigation, Sanna will use everything at her disposal to get to the bottom of the case.

This was such a gripping read, I read it in one sitting. It was well written with a compelling storyline and well developed characters that were relatable. It was twisty and unpredictable with a romance element that added an extra layer to the story. I really enjoyed it.

The author is a Finnish grandmother. This novel is her debut. Imagine how daunting the task must have been in producing a book not in her mother tongue, Finnish, but in a foreign language, English. Ignore the occasional word used out of context. Allow for an overflowing imagination, eager to get all her ideas down on paper, and one is left with a clever and unusual plot. Not many novelists manage to mix crime and romance successfully, but Tiina Utoslahti does it here with perfection.
