This is such a sweet, fun novel. It has all the virtues of Bonnie MacBirds' other Sherlock Holmes novels - fast pace, entertaining and complex characters, and a social conscience that links issues in Holmes' time to issues in our own time. In addition, What Child Is This? shows a deeply caring side of the man.

In this short and sweet story, we get lessons on love, redemption, charity, forgiveness and sacrifice during the Christmas season. Holmes uncovers the mystery of missing children and a desperate but not evil man. In the end love and forgiveness conquer all, and we are left with a satisfied heart and the lovely sound of a violin. Highly recommend!

Yet another Holmes story. But this seems true to the original series and it's well written and engaging. The author has good series going, and it's a solid bet for Holmes fans. Recommended.

Thanks very much for the free ARC for review!!

Remakes, reboots, re-imaginings of Sherlock Holmes can be a dicey affair, but Bonnie MacBird perfectly captures the style and spirit of Arthur Conan Doyle's works. I love this series. In addition to crackling good mysteries, the author vividly and accurately brings the characters of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson to life, as well as the setting of Victorian London at Christmastime.

With his wife away, Dr. Watson has returned to Baker Street as the city prepares for Christmas. The sound of carrolers brings no cheer to Sherlock Holmes. What he needs is a new case. A woman’s scream brings Holmes and Watson to the scene of an attempted kidnapping. The Endicott’s three year old son was saved but the kidnapper managed to escape. Sherlock’s offer of assistance is turned down by Lord Endicott. He believes that the attempt was tied to his business, but Holmes follows the kidnapper’s trail that leads to the local workhouse and an adoption scandal. Holmes is also approached by the Marquis of Blandbuty. His son Reginald has stopped communicating with the family and his mother is beside herself with worry. He has tried to visit his son at the residence that was provided for him but there is now a couple living there. With Christmas coming Holmes must find Reginald and confirm his safety.

This is the fifth book in Bonnie MacBird’s Sherlock Holmes series. She wonderfully captures the Holmes and Watson relationship and personalities. Her book is atmospheric, placing you on the streets of Victorian London. While the solutions to these mysteries are somewhat obvious, it is beautifully written and a perfect holiday story. I would lIke to thank NetGalley and Harper 360 for allowing me to review this book.

Something different from what I usually read, but I was drawn to the combination of a good Sherlock Holmes mystery with a Christmas setting. It's a really fun read I highly enjoyed it. I will definitely read more from Bonnie MacBird again. I want to thank NetGalley and Harper 360 for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Holmes and Watson, aided by the colourful Heffie O’Malley, slip slide in the ice to ensure a merry Christmas is had by nearly everybody. This is such a fun and entertaining series. Some social commentary for the time, some twists and turns and a solid, well plotted mystery. The characters in this series are so very well developed and fun. Looking forward to another adventure with these folks soon! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.

What Child is This? (A Sherlock Holmes Adventure #5) by Bonnie MacBird was easily one of my most highly anticipated reads. I'm so lucky to have been approved for this ARC via NetGalley because it totally lived up to the hype I'd built up for it. I love this author's take on Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. They feel very much like Arthur Conan Doyle's originals, and she's still able to keep them fresh. I know I've said this with every book, but this series just keeps getting better and better as it goes along. I'm not always a fan of holiday themed stories, but this was just delightful from the world-building of Victorian era London to our cast of characters. If you're a fan of Jeremy Brett's Holmes and David Burke's Watson, you can't miss this book. I hope we'll get to visit these characters again in the future.

What Child is This by Bonnie MacBird is a Sherlock Holmes novel in his best tradition. Before I forget I want to commend Artist, Frank Cho, on his illustrations, which appear throughout the book. Very nice touch! As always, several good mysteries, solved by the master and his partner, Dr. John Watson. Very enjoyable read. Things are turned upside down when Sherlock is asked to find the grown son of an aristocrat. He is found and given strict instructions by Sherlock to be in touch with his mother. The solution is surprising, to say the least. But Sherlock, never bats an eye.

The other story is about the attempted abduction of a three-year-old and the sad story that follows as Sherlock follows every lead. This is the perfect Christmas read. Sherlock does not like Christmas, no surprise there, but he is able to solve these two mysteries in such a way that they are gifts for the people involved. It was a terrific read. She catches the spirit of Sherlock Holmes. I loved it, as always.
