Description

They were children chosen for their gifts.

One hundred kids were enrolled in a U.S. national defense program between 2002 and 2004 because they could remember past lives, read a person’s future by the touch of a hand, foresee events in dreams, or speak with angels.

The government had seriously explored adult intuitive programs in the twentieth century. After 9/11, however, military scientists speculated young minds might be easily trained to identify threats to the American people through a technique the Russians had long been rumored to find success in—remote viewing or dreaming wide awake.

What they were unprepared for was the utter success and transcendence of the bending of a child’s mind.

The Dream Diaries, a novella of short stories, is the stand-alone, third book in CJ Zahner’s gripping Dream Series. Before they were sent to the desert and taught to “dream” in Project Dream, before they grew up to defend the country in Dream Wide Awake, they were simply children.

These are the recruiting stories of those children—who could not get out alive.

I was expecting short stories, but this was much more, yes it is true that each of the stories in this book are one of a kind, but they all come together as in each one of these, there is something that makes sense to a bigger story… so what did I learn from it?, there is a special school in area 51 surrounded by desert and special/troubling kids are taken there with the promise of one day getting back into the world, or are they? Most kids lost their parents or were brought here through a lie, and it is true to all of them that they hate this place, and most of the kids love only one of their instructors, instructor Annie Sherman, all these stories start with a breve introduction of said kid and instructor Annie about them. I did enjoy very much that each of the chapters was given a tittle that would introduce the kid by himself like, the first one is the pilot’s son.

There’s a theme behind the scenes in this book, kids are not happy and they want out, but to get out the school means to die? So in each chapter we learn about the story of each Main character in their own chapter and what they contributed to the main theme of the book, and if you want to know more about it, I would advise you to grab a copy and read for yourself because it is a short read but worth of your time, each chapter is like a 15 to 20 minutes read, it usually starts in the present (in the school) and then through the questions of instructor Annie they travel through their past and how they arrived at this school and what made them who they are, actually there are characters mentioned in this book that I wish I could read more about them, even some being the main character in their own chapter I want to know more about them. Others you’ll hate, yeah I want to know how they will end their stories as well… overall it is well written and makes you come for more… now I want to read more of this world.

Thank you NetGalley and Backlit PR for the free ARC and this is my honest opinion
