A cute book that teaches about rain forests and gives self-esteem help as well. This is a cute book!

We loved the colours and the artwork above all.

Oma, the orangutan likes challenges but she is actually not the best in anything. Whether it is nest building or tree planting, there are others beating her. She never gives up though. Children can learn a few things about resilience, nature and the rainforest from this story.

Thank you NetGalley and Windmill Books for an Advance Review Copy.

Love this little book!
It’s the story of a young orangutan who wants to build something of his own but a heavy downpour makes it quite impossible to carry on with this task. However, the other wise orangutan explains calmly not to see as an obstruction but rather as a gift as it naturally is! Rain is important as we all know!

I find the presentation, the writing and the art quite neat. It’s so calming to read this storybook. Also, why should we not not like rain?!

This book will give the little one the answer.

Thank you, Windmill Books, for the advance reading copy.

From Windmill Books, who I am finding myself rating quite highly for their skill at cherry-picking the best of the picture books other small houses have on their back catalogues, comes this tale of several orang-utans. One is determined to be the best at something, but every time the rains come and ruin her plans. But what if she could be shown that the rains in her part of the world are necessary, and that – that adversity or not – she is still an important orang-utan? Yes, the orang-utan god loves a trier in this book telling us to not quibble about an expected defeat, and to learn to live with failure as a built-in aspect of life. It's a welcome moral, and presented quite decently here. It's not an earth-shattering joy, but is fine, and for the lesson it gives and the way it tells it with ease, deserves four stars.

This was a very cute store about trying your best. You don’t always have to be great at everything or even something, but as long as you try that should be enough. It was a very quick read and would be a great book to read to children.

Two orangutan friends challenge each other to build different nests in their rainforest home. One of them continuously loses the challenge but keeps trying. They learn that while he may not have a skill for building nests, he has perseverance, which is important too.

I appreciated that the book added in some science, learning about a rainforest habitat. The orangutans conduct a plant experiment as part of their challenges and learn that water helps plants grow. It would have been cool to have met other animals in the rainforest or talk about other parts of the rainforest habitat too.

The Plucky Orangutan was a really sweet story of resilience and continuing to try, even if you’re not the best at something. This is such an important message for kids in the targeted age group and I certainly enjoyed reading it with my kids! The illustrations are also beautiful and really add to the storytelling!

The story of an orangutan who tried her best to complete her challenges with no avail. A story of accepting challenges, tried one's best, never giving up before trying, and have a laugh at the end.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I really loved the colorful illustrations in this book. The characters are fun. It seems a bit wordy for younger audiences and the story is a little disjointed at times and doesn't tie together as cleanly as it could. It's still fun with a good lesson.

A really sweet story about a strong orangutan who tries and tries and tries. She tries her best and never gives up even when it doesn't always work out. My four year old enjoyed this book as well. The message was important, the story was fun and sweet and the illustrations were fun and pretty!

Oma, the orangutan likes challenges and wants to be the best at whatever she does, but it doesn't work out that way. Whether it is building the best nest, the strongest nest, building a nest in the quickest time or in the highest point, she is not successful, the rain seems to watch away all her work. She and her friend Ari do not agree about rain. Ari says the rain forest needs the rain for things to grow, Oma thinks they could do just fine with out it. They both plant a tree to see who is right, and of course, it is Ari. Poor Oma gets down on herself thinking she can't do anything right, but her friends encourage her by telling her she never gives up and makes them laugh. A cute story about relisienc, not giving up, always trying your best and being able to laugh at yourself as well as a story of friendship and friendly competition. This is a story that we read and enjoyed, just for the story and illustrations, which are very well done. The colours, vibrancy, and detail were wonderful showing emotion easily. Yes, there is a message here that you could discuss with children, as well as piquing their interest into rainforest and orangutans, but it is also just a fun story that we enjoyed together.

This is an adorable book to have in an elementary classroom. This book discusses the importance of determination when faced with challenges. Life sometimes has obstacles that can hinder our plans, but is important to persevere and continue on. In this book, Oma wants to prove that rain is not necessary so she and Ari pose a competition to plant a tree and see which grows better. Oma of course loses and feels distraught over the loss but her friends help encourage her to see that she is still great and it is ok to lose sometimes. Oma also learns that the rain is important and it might slow you down but that is ok. Very cute story to bring up great topics about losing, determination, and perseverence.

Very cute illustrations with color to draw the reader in.

Thank you, NetGalley for an e-reader copy of this book.
