I really enjoyed reading this and enjoyed the idea of someone living peacefully through death and into the afterlife. It worked well as a story and I was invested in what was going on in the world. It does a great job in telling a young adult novel. The characters worked well and I'm glad I got to read this. Jacob Acebo was what I was hoping for and it worked well.

"You’ve made the choice to make this life uniquely your own, which as a father, is a fine gift to see. I don’t know what you’ll find in those woods or what fate awaits you. I know that there is no life for you in remaining here, and against my own wishes, I could never ask you to stay.”He patted his son on the back. “Go, my son, and show the same bravery to The Rider. Show him life.” He pulled Argo in, and Argo sank into his father’s arms and closed his eyes."

This is an epic high fantasy novel that is mainly plot driven. Lovers of LotR will likely enjoy this story. The book is about our main character Argo who is given a letter from the book’s grim reaper character, called The Rider, that his days are numbered. Everyone in Argo’s town knows they will be moved from their current life to the after life by The Rider, but no one knows when their time will come. Argo doesn’t want his time to be up and decides to go on an epic quest to confront The Rider. I REALLY liked this book. The first 30% is fairly slow paced as the main plot of the story is fleshed out and some of the basic world building is presented. With that said, there is MINIMAL dialogue after that first 30%. This book takes you on a fantastic quest and once the roller coaster starts moving it’s high speed! In just 210 short pages the author moved you from one point to the next. The only feedback I feel is necessary to mention is the writing style. At one point the book reads “and Argo reflected on everything that needed reflection” (paraphrased). Other than that, the world Acebo builds is dream worthy and easy to imagine. 4.5 stars!!
