HARLEQUIN - Romance (U.S. & Canada), Harlequin
Harlequin is excited to offer this special preview of Full Moon Over Freedom by Angelina M. Lopez. We hope you enjoy reading the first five chapters!
"Angelina Lopez is the new queen of small-town romance—and of our hearts!" —SIERRA SIMONE, USA TODAY bestselling coauthor of A Merry Little Meet Cute
Gillian Armstead-Bancroft—Pride of the East Side and once-perfect bruja, wife, and mother—is going to spend her summer getting good at being bad.
The first time she left Freedom, Kansas, behind, she did it by doing everything right.
This time, she’ll hide from the large Mexican American family welcoming her home and work in secret to break the curse that’s erased her magical life. Only by doing it all wrong can Gillian get herself and her two children away from the ghosts of her hometown by summer’s end.
Nicky Mendoza is an answer to her prayers. He was the practical solution to the problem of her virginity when they were younger, and now, as a gorgeous artist in town for only a weekend, he’s the ideal man to launch her down the path of ruination.
But Gillian isn’t the only one who’s cursed.
Nicky has been plagued by his furtive, enduring love for her as long as he’s been haunted by his cadejo, the phantom black dog that stalks his psyche. He’ll stick around to be whatever Gillian needs him to be this summer—but he won't touch her. Touching her, then watching her leave again, would ruin him for good.

Wow. I absolutely LOVED After Hours on Milagro Street, and have been looking forward to Gillian’s story ever since. The first five chapters have me hooked, and I can’t wait to get to know Gillian and Nicky even better!
I would sell my soul to read the rest of this book. I’m so mad at myself for thinking I could handle just reading the first 5 chapters. It’s so good so far!!!!
They were childhood friends, and then they were lovers, and then they didn't talk for years—and now they're back in the same town for the summer, in very different places but very, *very* much on each other's radar.
This preview starts with a (*cough*) not-quite bang that tells me that there is steam aplenty to come in "Full Moon Over Freedom," and I'm over the moon (and thus also over Freedom?) to see Mexican-American protagonists in mainstream romance. Gillian—Juliana by birth and to her family—has spent the past decade or more making herself over into someone she thinks of as more palatable to a white East Coast crowd, while Nicky has made a name for himself as a Mexican-American artist, and I'm very curious about how Gillian's identity will evolve over the course of the book.
The full book is out in September, and if the preview is anything to go by it'll be very steamy, with intersectionality and something to learn about Mexican (and Mexican-American) culture—and who can argue with that?
Thanks to the author and publisher for providing this preview through NetGalley.
I've only read five chapters, but I'm hooked. This is the second story in this series and follows Nicky, once a bad boy now a successful artist, and Gillian, once a good girl now reeling from a divorce and starting over. This book has some of my favorite tropes: friends to lovers, second chance, flashbacks, and sex lessons. The representation is so great. The writing style is as beautiful as always. There's an air of mystery about the story that I can't wait to get to. What happened between them? Did Nicky ever try to tell Gillian how he felt? Does she know about his family? I have so many questions!!! I can't wait to read the rest of the novel and am counting down the days until I get to!
So addicting. Absolutely feeling the chemistry. Cannot wait to read the rest, Lopez is quickly becoming a must-buy author.
