This was a really neat way to introduce a young person to the US Air Force. I always like alphabet books and this one was well done. Photos rather than illustrations, and I tend towards collecting the ones with illustrations, but I did think that this would have been one my kids' Opa would have gifted them back in the day, especially if he had seen it at a museum or similar site as a souvenir. Some of the chosen items were a bit of a stretch for the letter and I feel like there could have been better things that were more Air Force and more specific, but overall, they did a good job. Especially with the Q.
The book has little snippets of information for each letter which makes it more than a run through of the alphabet, and I appreciated the photos where they labeled the planes so that I knew what I was looking at, because I'm not the military aircraft expert my husband and his dad are.
All in all, a good picture book or read aloud book that informs.
As an Air Force spouse, I absolutely loved reading this alphabet book with my children. We loved seeing some of the air craft we have been around on the pages of this book. The only thing we were disappointed in was that Y was not for Yokota (our current base)! I will definitely be looking to purchase a physical copy of this, and will love giving it as a baby gift for other AF families.
Jerry Pallotta is the author of several nonfiction book series, and fans of his ABC series will be happy to know that he has a new title coming out soon-- US AIR FORCE ALPHABET BOOK. It is ideal for fans of military aircraft and Air Force history. Arranged alphabetically with photographs and pictures, this is perfect for all libraries, especially those that serve children on or near near military bases.
Thank you to Charlesbridge and NetGalley for the digital arc.
Authors Jerry Pallotta and Sammie Garnett have provided us with an illustrated alphabet depicting most things USAF in an unforgettable way. There are B for Bomber, F for Fighter Jet, I for Insignias
N for Nose Art, U for Uniforms, Y for Yesterday which gives small pix of aircraft through the years and many more. Everything shows pride in this branch of the US Military.
The illustrations by Vickie Fraser are incredibly clear, nearly realistic and vividly colorful.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to USAF families, a school, or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Charlesbridge via NetGalley. Thank you!
