Description

“A U.S. marshal stumbles into romance and a homicide case at a therapeutic hot-springs resort in Burnett’s debut thriller…New lovers headline this unhurried but worthwhile murder mystery.”

-Kirkus Reviews

“Action-packed, fast-paced, and excitement-filled, Death is Potential by Bob Burnett was a delight to read.”

-City Book Reviews

When U.S. Marshall Kate Swift enters a trauma-recovery workshop, she never expects to be caught up in a fiery romance and a violent crime wave.

As Kate and Tom Scott grow close, their bond is tested by series of murders. After fire shuts down access to Big Sur, and the workshop, Kate takes control of the police investigation. To save Tom’s life, Kate must find the killer.

Perfect for mystery and romance fans, Death is Potential is a nuanced combination of “The Guest List” by Lucy Foley and “Nine Perfect Strangers” by Liane Moriarty—with a touch of the humor of “Squeeze Me” by Carl Hiaasen.

About the Author
____________________________
Bob Burnett is a founder of Cisco Systems and has participated in many retreats at the famed Institute. While the events portrayed at Satori are completely fictional, Burnett drew on his experiences there to create incredibly realistic portrayals of what it is like to spend time at such a retreat and the kinds of deep friendships that can be forged by engaging in a group therapy session. His many years working in Silicon Valley, from its infancy in the 1960’s through the late 1980’s, when he finally stepped away from his work as a tech executive also helped him capture a realistic portrayal of the Silicon Valley community. Finally, one of Burnett’s earliest jobs-before he ever worked in computers-was as a probation officer in Orange County and that helped him formulate his portrayals of Federal Marshal Kate Swift and the other law enforcement officers depicted in the book. Burnett now lives in Northern CA, not far from Napa Valley. Raised as a Quaker, Burnett has also worked as a political activist over the years and has published many political columns in outlets such as The Huffington Post, In These Times and more. This is his first novel.
