Description

Children will love this hilarious book about a funny knight who goes in search of a dragon to battle!

The other knights have told him that there's no such thing as dragons, but he says, “Forsooth! There is TOO such a thing!” You just need to know where to look!

And luckily, this knight has something very special that no one else has – a map that says: "HERE BE DRAGONS"!

So, he sets off armed with the map, his sword, and his trusty steed. He travels straight to the spot marked ‘X’, past shiny treasure, some suspicious bones and many signs telling him to TURN BACK!

But alas, he’s too busy looking at his map to notice. He wanders up and down a spiky hill (the dragon's back), shouts into a burrow (the dragon's nose), and eventually walks into a very dark cave (the dragon's mouth).

In this laugh-out-loud story, young readers will love seeing the hapless knight search for the dragon, all the while not seeing how close he truly is to the beast!

Will he see the dragon before it's too late?!

With expert storytelling from the author of This Book Can Read Your Mind, Susannah Lloyd, and whimsical illustrations from the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal nominee, Paddy Donnelly, this is a book that will delight time after time. Kids will love coming back to the bookshelf and seeing if they can spot the fearsome dragon in the background. Comedic illustrations with hidden clues hinting at the dragon's whereabouts accompany funny and lively text which kids and parents alike will love to read aloud!

This book made me laugh - and I was very pleased to see who the really hero(ine) of the book is.

The illustrations are clever - the knight can't find a dragon anywhere, but hopefully the reader will spot one.

I'll be putting this on a wishlist for when my daughter is a bit older and can help me find dragons.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.

That was such a cute and funny book. I read this book too my three year old and he was laughing the whole time and loved the dragon.

Here Be Dragons by Susannah Lloyd, is a fun, hilarious book about a Knight who goes out to find a dragon, (cause how hard can it be, he has a map!) even though people tell him there is no such thing as a dragon. What ensues is Mr. Knight dragging his poor horse through mountains and snow, looking for something that seems to be RIGHT under his nose. A feisty damsel in distress tops this off for me with her no nonsense attitude. The illustrations are beautiful and full of little surprises if you know where to look. I re-read this book with my son and it also got a 10 year old's stamp of approval. This book can be enjoyed by all ages. Thank you NetGalley for the E-ARC and the chance to read and enjoy this book while at the same time being able to help the Author our with an honest review.

5 plus plus.
This is hilarious, Each page is full of detail and humor, some you have to pay attention and notice that the joke continues on the next page or in the background. This knight doesn't believe in dragons, but he can't notice them even when he walks into the mouth of one of them. It's up to another character (not the horse but he knows more than this knight) to save him. It will be one of my favorite picture books for a long time. Can't wait to collect it once it's out.
Awesome artwork, page design, and good font size.
Thank you, publisher and Netgalley for this e-Arc.

Such an adorable story with incredible illustrations! The cozy vibes for a children's book is unmatched in this one, with our ambitious and dreamer knight going on an adventure to find a dragon.
The delightful and funny inner monologue of the Knight kept me laughing throughout. And my most favourite thing about this book? The magical, detailed and lush illustrations. They are so gorgeous and full of color you feel like you can almost touch them.

Complete laugh out loud nonsense.

Children will compete with their carers, parents and guardians as they read this wonderful book to laugh and blow bubbles of snot down their noses.

A buffoon for a knight who is determined to out smart his peers by finding and slaying a dragon like the best examples in ye olde stories of chivalry. With his trusty stead, the latest armour, he has one last advantage - a map.

Not just any roll of parchment but a topographical masterpiece with even an X marking the spot where “Here be Dragons”.

The book follows his insane adventure and will delight and leave all in fits of giggles.

Beautifully illustrated with more jokes per page than you can shake a stick at. A knight’s quest, a heraldic journey with map in hand and devoid of any common sense.

It will be fun each time you read it and on each new occasion you will see fresh and exquisite details of humour and joy.

My daughter read this book at bedtime tonight and she loved it

When she reads a book and it really keen to read the next page and see where the story goes, that is always going to be a hit with me as a parent.

I love the kind of books that keep her entertained and guessing. With this one she was giggling and commenting as the story progress and that is what I love to see and not only is she reading a story that she is enjoying, it is helping her develop her reading skills too.

It is 5 stars from me for this one - it is a fun story with some great illustrations too

This is a delightful upending of the classic tale of a knight saving a damsel in distress from a dragon. We follow a clueless knight attempting to follow directions to find a dragon as he ignores all the signs he should be paying attention to. I love the historical language this introduces to young readers, and the plot is sure to produce some sweet giggles.

had so much fun reading this book, the story is so adorable and the illustrations were so well done and charming, there’s so many little details in every page that I couldn’t stop but be mesmerized by it all. I will definitely be recommending it! Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this early copy

As I read this hysterical picture book about a clueless knight and a very smart princess, I could imagine a child giggling as a parent read it aloud. The illustrations capture the silly action perfectly. If you look closely, you’ll end up seeing what happened to the Princess and the knight’s horse. In addition to a marvelously fiery dragon, savvy readers will spot a wide variety of other characters in the background.

This book is about a silly little knight who is determined to find a dragon with a map that says, ‘Here be Dragons’. He is so focused on the map that he doesn’t notice the dragon directly in front of him.

Here Be Dragons is so silly it’s cute! I can’t wait to read it to my kids. I just know they will love it and find the knight just as silly as I did.

Thank you Frances Lincoln Children's Books!

HOW CUTE! I love the silly story and the very detailed artwork. The artist threw little Easter eggs in each page, so it's fun to just pause and look at every detail added. What a fun book to gift to the little kiddos in your life!

What fun! Poor misguided hero looks and looks for a dragon to slay but he can't find the one just in front of him!
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!
The illustrations by Paddy Donnelly are imaginative, detailed, colorful, and great fun.

This book is fantastic! I cannot praise the hilarious suspense building, incredible prose, and suspenseful illustrations enough.

My copy was lent to upstairs' kids, and came back dog-eared and loved. I was given feedback that it is the youngest twin's all time favourite book. Can't get better feedback than that!

This was a fun and hilarious story! The illustrations are gorgeous and overflowing with detail. One of those books where each time you read it you'll notice something different in the pictures. The pacing and amount of text is great for reading with young children. I could absolutely see my kiddos loving this book. The medieval language is a bit tongue in cheek and could be fun to narrate reading out loud. It may require a little translation for younger kids who aren't familiar with some of the words.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an eARC.

A cute story about an arrogant knight who can’t see the literal dragon right in front of his eyes. Very silly and cute. Written with some older language styles.

This was SUCH a cute read! and the artwork was amazing! My son and I had to laugh at the oblivious knight. I think that was my sons favorite part, finding the map clues while the Knight struggled! Absolutely a book I would purchase for his book collection! My only critique is with some of the language. At times I found myself stumbling over the words since I was reading it out loud, but I think that would improve with practice.

This book is:
* Filled with fantastic and hilarious illustrations
* A story about a V E R Y clueless Knight on a great adventure
* Filled with many things to discover on every page [WAIT until you see the first two pages!! Hilarious]; you could spend several readings just finding all the funny things in all of the illustrations [I imagine that the illustrator had a really fun time hiding all these funny things - at least I hope he did!]

It is also a good lesson in how sometimes in trying to find something leads you to missing the very thing you are looking for and how paying attention to what is actually around you and not what you THINK you are looking for is so very important.

This was a really great read that littles and their readers will enjoy over and over again. Very well done!

Every good fantasy story starts with a map! This was such a clever story with a fun twist on the classic "knight saves princess from dragon" tale. The illustrations were bright and beautiful, and I loved the way they spanned across the full page spread. Such a fun adventure to read with my son!

The story of a knight looking for dragons ..... with a map. Other knights said there is no dragon, but our knight believe that there are dragons. So he starts his search, with his horse. He read the map carefully, but no dragon in sight. This was a hilarious story as the cover of the book said. Thank you for brightening my day, since this book is not only for children, but adults as well.

Oh this one was delightful. My kids thought it was hilarious how the silly knight kept missing the dragon. This one had lovely illustrations and the story captivated their attention and kept it throughout. Definitely recommend it for young children.

A very cute and silly book about a knight trying to find a dragon. I can see a lot of kids enjoying this story.

Unbelievably illustrated, especially by the knight in search of a dragon, this picture book will take readers on their own quest to find a dragon.

This book will fit perfectly with “Paperback Princess”. We have a knight who is determined to find a dragon to fight. But the knight is a guy does not pay attention. Our knight even finds a damsel in distress. While the night is too braggadocios to realize what’s going on, the princess is going to save the day. This book was lots of fun. The illustrations are bright, vibrant, colorful, everything a kid wants in a book. This book has lots of power and could be read over and over and over again for decades to come if given the chance.

Our self assured knight is on a mission: to find a dragon. He’s determined, he has a map and a trusty steed who is, quite frankly, the brains of the operation.

The knight trusts his own judgement and buries his head in the map, oblivious to the signs he passes. Even the literal ones.

This is one of those picture books where the words and the pictures tell vastly different stories. If we trust the knight, we’ll believe there’s nothing to see here, but we know better.

Paddy Donnelly’s illustrations tell us the other story. It’s not only the dragon the knight fails to see. He misses practically the entire story. Just some of what he misses are a unicorn, treasure and the real heroes of this story.

If I’d read this as a kid, I would have loved pointing out all of the times I found the dragon. Adult me may have also enjoyed doing this but also loved seeing the expressions on the animals’ faces.

My favourite expression happened early in the book, when the knight is in Ye Olde Shoppe. He may have purchased that map and bargain bin sword or he may have appropriated them when the shopkeeper’s back was turned. What’s not in doubt is how bored his horse is; without a word you can see they’re well acquainted with the knight’s self-aggrandising behaviour.

I read a lot of picture books. Not all of them make a lasting impression. This one has. I borrowed it from the library in 2021 and as soon as I saw it again I knew I had to reread it. It was just as much fun as I remembered.

I got even more out of the illustrations this time around. There’s so much to see. It’s taken me four reads to pick up on the fact that the bunny flying through the air is still visible when you turn to the next page.

I’m definitely going to be reading this again.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books, an imprint of The Quarto Group, for the opportunity to read this picture book.

Completely adorable. The type of book you can enjoy over and over because the hilarious prose and vivid illustrations tell multiple stories. This isn't a rush-through-it kind of storybook. This is a pour-over-every-detail, discover-something-new-each-time-you-read-it, giggle-with-your-little-ones kind of story. This is the one Mom and Dad pick when it is their turn to choose a bedtime story.

Absolutely loved it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for letting me have a peek at an advanced copy. Verily all opinions are forsooth and completely my own!

‘He’s behind you!’ humour with a hapless knight and a furious ‘can do’ princess.

Very funny picture book with the reader in on the joke from the start, as a clearly useless knight takes his map and goes off to find a dragon to fight for his treasure. His horse can’t make him see every clue, and he’s oblivious to every unsubtle hint about bodies, gold, victims and even sharp teeth that aren’t really caves… Good thing the tied-up princess is able to defend herself…

Chock full of visual humour that compliments the text, this will have children slapping their heads at the silly helmeted one and cheering the true heroes of the story, who don’t get a word to say but show by deeds their courage and worth.

Great illustrations too, of medieval scenes and forests.

Lots of fun for toddlers and small ones at bedtime. For ages 3-7.

With thanks to Netgalley for providing a sample reading copy.

A book that is laugh-out-loud funny AND brings knights and dragons centre stage? Yes, please! sometimes we forget, but the most appealing aspect for young children is sheer entertainment and enjoyment and this book DELIVERS! The calamity of this oblivious knight who will NOT follow advice and will miss the most OBVIOUS of clues will have children screaming every single one of his decisions is blatantly the wrong one! Paddy Donnelly is so incredibly talented and the illustrations (besides being gorgeous!) are full of hilarious, witty little details, which the children will LOVE spotting.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, thank me later. This is a safe bet for your shelf!

A story of a knight and his steady steed searching for a dragon. The knight is brave but a little dense. This was a fun and entertaining story. The illustrations were clever and well done. Highly recommend.

Here Be Dragons by Susannah Lloyd is a fun and engaging book for young readers. The illustrations are detailed and vibrant. Children and kids will have so much fun looking for the dragon. I often read the text and then went back just to look at the details in the illustrations. This book appeals to both genders and kids of all ages prbably TK-3, and will have students laughing and engaged in the text.

As a teacher and a parent, this book is a must have in your home or classroom library. I just know my students and my own children will return to this book again and again. Since this book is so engaging, there are so many questions you can ask your child to engage even more with the book. You can ask questions such as "What do you notice about the spiky hill?" or "What do you notice about the burrow he shouts into?" Asking students/children these questions will help them use the details to infer, predict, and explain their thinking.

Parents and teacher, pick up this book when it is published on February 6, 2024. You will not be disappointed and your children/students will find their new favorite book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Susannah Lloyd for allowing me to voluntarily read this book and give my honest review.

Thank you to the author, Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In this children's book, a truly clueless knight goes off to find a dragon - he has a map, what can go wrong. Pish to all those telling him it's not a good idea. He certainly finds a dragon, but remains convinced to the end that he has not found one. This book is a great lesson in paying attention to what is around you, rather than trying to find what you think should be there. The illustrations are amazing, so full of very funny and quirky details that will entrance children of all ages, not to mention this grown-up.

This was absolutely hilarious! We follow a clueless, yet arrogant knight looking for a dragon.
The illustrations are not only gorgeous, but funny too and they add to the overall fun and amazingness of the entire book.

It's that kind of book you know it will humour the little ones too, especially trying to point the dragon on every page while our knight is missing on the entire fun!

A brilliant little story about a clueless knight on the hunt for a dragon, but gets more than he bargained for. With loads of hilarious background jokes (the bargain bucket of swords was my personal favourite) this is a sure win for any bedtime read.

Here Be Dragons is a funny story about a knight who sets off in search of a dragon - even though people tell him they don't exist! While he doesn't have much luck (maybe someone is giving him a helping hand there), the reader is invited to see if they can spot the dragon on each page which is a detail I loved, reminding me of books I read when I was little.

The illustrations are great and the story will make you and your little ones laugh - definitely a fun bedtime read or one for the classroom. A five start children's book for me, definitely worth a read!

I loved, really loved the illustrations.
The knight is really distracted looking for his dragon. My son enjoyed it a lot, we are definitely getting a physical copy of this book.
It's just so clever and funny.
Highly recommend!

Love the illustrations in this picture book. The colors are so vibrant and it all really helped to tell the story. The story is cute: a knight looking for a dragon only to end up in the mouth of a dragon. I liked that the language was appropriate to what one would think a knight would use. Overall a cute book that I know the kiddos will love and would be a great story time book.

This was a cute and quick read. My 7 year old loved it. It was witty and fun. The illustrations were great. He spent the majority of each page lingering, trying to see if he could spot parts of the dragon. I liked the use of the language style that might be more in use during medieval times as well.
