Description

Ancient and unknown forces have been unleashed in war-ravaged Iraq.

When Elliott Gildart decides to join an archeological dig in the drylands of northern Iraq, he expects a break from his monotonous job. But the discovery of an unusual and out-of-place megalithic platform turns exploration into a risky undertaking and leaves Elliott facing a future he’s not sure he’s prepared for.

Meanwhile, Neil Feaver and his cameraman, Jake Parvis, stumble upon their own strange developments while filming a documentary about Iraq’s ongoing civil war. Saved from imminent danger by a mysterious stranger, they soon learn that lost magic and mystical artifacts have fallen into the wrong hands. Now, everyone finds themselves caught in the crisis, involving coalition forces, Islamist militants, and enigmatic factions that have existed since the times of the Ancient Near East.

As terrifying forces align, can they prevent impending peril? Or will ancient magic be enough to turn the tides?

A thrilling fantasy novel that takes readers on an exhilarating journey through the sands of Iraq. With its richly imagined world and pulse-pounding plot, the book keeps you hooked from start to finish. I found myself drawn into the mysteries of ancient magic and the high-stakes conflict between opposing forces. The characters are well-developed, and their intertwining storylines add layers of intrigue to the narrative.

Wars are ugly. So ugly that people are often inclined to attribute the inspiration for them to nefarious forces beyond our world. And I was wondering when and how this sort of exercise of imagination will come about with modern warfare as a background. Dennis Tsarson gave me an intense, full-throttle answer with HERE BE JINN, a non-stop thrill-ride featuring Elliot Gildart, who joins an archaeological dig looking for thrills to escape the dead-end job he is stuck in, Neil Feaver and Jake Parvis, a documentary team filming a feature about the ongoing strife caused by Irak's civil war. This whole scenario is complicated when the presence of mysterious, dark-powered artifacts that have fallen into the wrong hands is revealed, and multiple factions, each with their own goals.
A strong, intense thriller that also works as a meditation on the chaos and iniquity of War, Here Be Jinn gets a ten out of five. Great, great job!
