Wealthy ex-businesswoman, Katherine Crawford, has lived alone for 30 years following the death of her young daughter, Amy. At Last by Vivian Marr is an eclectic novel that is as reflective as it is emotive with a deep insight into a parents loss of a child and what happens in the years and decades afterwards
The story follows Katherine Crawford who retreated into herself following the loss of her daughter and as the decedes pass, she begins to reflect on her life and uniting again with her daughter when she leaves the mortal coil.
As the story progresses, Katherine meets new people throughout her day to day activities (Charlene and Nektarios are truly lovely) and the story moves with a steady flow through a multitude of interactions and events and not all predictable
Marr's writing style is not my usual preference, but the strength of the narrative kept me bound to the storyline and it is absolutely essential to have a box of tissues on hand for at least half of the book. There is a deep knowledge and love of the area and this is clearly reflected in the narrative
A beautifully written story full of heart and soul. Whether you are a parent or not, this will resonate loud as a bell
