A passionate love story about a young couple struggling to overcome the difficulties in their courtship, keep the faith, and wait for approval of their marriage. Leann Clark and Ralph Wade are in love and desire to be married, but obstacles stand in their way. Leann's father, John Clark, insists she is too young, and Ralph cannot yet make a living farming his land in post-Civil War Missouri. Times are grim after the war. Many farmers are working hard to keep their land. Leann doubts Ralph's love when adverse circumstances prevent him from courting her as he promised.
The novella introduces the characters and setting of the Wades of Crawford County series.
Advance Praise
As a fan of historical fiction, I was delighted with the story line, writing style and development of this story set in Missouri of young love and learning to wait. Beth B. Taylor did an excellent job of pulling you into the setting, loving the characters and rooting for them all the way. A. Dunn, Author
If you enjoy historical fiction you will delight in this tale set in post Civil War Missouri. Brenda B. Taylor tells the story of Leann Clark and Ralph Wade and their desire to be wed and start their life together. Their hopes and dreams are postponed when Leann's father strongly objects since he feels Ralph does not possess the financial or emotional maturity needed to care for his daughter. This novella follows the couple through the many obstacles they face in their relationship while trying to gain the confidence of their families and the financial strength to survive in these trying times following the Civil War. You will find yourself firmly anchored in the time period with this author's gift of story-telling. M. Peveto, Author
Set in Missouri just after the Civil War, two
people, Ralph and Leann, find themselves deeply in love. But, until Ralph
becomes more financially stable, Leann's parents refuse to give thier blessing
so the two can marry. Ralph works from dawn till dusk on his farm in a futile
attempt to cope with the hurt. A heartbroken Leann contemplates the notion of
finding solace elsewhere.
Page after page, I kept rooting for this couple, hoping, praying they would be
able to be together in the end. I loved how the characters were imperfect
people, just trying to cope with life after a terrible war. Ms. Taylor wasn't
afraid to delve into social issues relevent to that particular time, and now.
Heaven Must Wait contains an emotionally satisfying ending. Highly reccommended.
