Description

Genre: Epic Fantasy

‘Look at her – she’s Hill Clan. Even the Matyrani don’t like them …’

Isaura – little is known about her race, but much is whispered. Born to refugees, she grows up enduring racism and superstition within a community that fears her. She has few friends, and those she treasures. Trapped, she longs for escape to a different life.

Escape is only the beginning of her troubles. Having fled an invading army with her friends, Isaura is faced with heinous choices in order to survive. Secrets from her past emerge to torment her and threaten to destroy all she holds dear. Her struggles forge a bond with an ancient power – a power which may transform or consume her. Old hatreds and superstitions are renewed and at her most vulnerable she learns the true nature of those around her.

Her only hope lies in a foreign land – a land rich in tradition; ruled by three powerful clans. A land with a history marked by warfare; where magic as we know it does not exist. Instead what is here, in abundance, is a more primal power.

Survival carries a high price.

Advance Praise

“A fantastic read, with a compelling storyline. Isaura proves to be a strong protagonist, a role model for all. With a variety of rich and complex characters, this novel leaves you breathless as you are taken on their journey of survival. Altaica is a novel I would highly recommend to anyone, particularly young adults.” – Elleni, Goodreads Reviewer

“Very carefully crafted and full of authentic details, such as the descriptions of accoutrements and armoury, of scenery and relationships, and of the structures of the castles and cities, this tale keeps one wanting to read further to find out what happens next. It is not a story for the faint-hearted as the author does not shun the descriptions of the less savoury events.” – Clive, Goodreads Reviewer

I Wasn't too sure what to think about this to start off with. But after the first couple of chapters the storyline started to get more involved and it became hard to put the book down. This story followed a group of villagers as they fled there home country to get rid of war. They travel out on a barge and struggle at sea until they are rescued by fishermen from another county. The story line really picks up once this happens. it has a lot of strong points to this story . if you ready enjoy fantasy reads. you will enjoy this one. This book is not a story you can hope to read in one sitting you really do need to read this one is peace and quiet. I loved how the author put different parts into this story . And the different struggles for love , loss and friendship I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves to escape from reality.

This book started off a little slow but began to pick up towards the middle to the end. There were some plot twists which made it interesting since the author gives points of view from several of the characters. The cover made me really want to read this book however I felt that there was not much with the main character from the description of the book. I would really like the author to develop me character in the next book.. I also enjoyed how protective Isa's friends were to her, even when there were those who went against her. They stood by her and those who did not really know her also helped to save her life as well as the people Isa cares about the most. The supporting characters also have varying personalities which makes the story more entertaining since their thoughts are all different and they all have different objectives.

A copy from Netgalley for an honest review. Amazing "medieval" fantasy. Great worldbuilding and characters. Isaura of the mysterious Hill Clan, her mother dead, her step father insane, races to save her friends from the village from the advancing Zargarian army. Fleeing on a barge, they are swept out to sea. Brought to shore in an unknown land, Isa rests in a coma. Strange magic surrounds her and the little boy Pio. Death stalks the Clan leaders that meet to decide the fate of the villagers. Magic coalesces with the return of the wolves to the ceremony to try to revive Isa. War breaks out with the death of the clan leader. Very good book, epic.
