“One of the best fantasy books I've read in quite some time”—Books in the Hall

“This story had a nice mixture of darker moments, adventure, friendship and funny episodes (zombie chickens!). There were some interesting twists built in too - all of which kept the story moving from one page to the next.” —Dr. S. Drecker

“The author shows a definite talent for world building. Her creativity and characterizations are marvelous. As a retired teacher, I can enthusiastically recommend ENNARA AND THE FALLEN DRUID for the middle-grade student.” —Kathleen Harrington

“All of the characters are loveable, even down to the cat Smoos (I love that name by the way!). I really enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend it to a friend. I give Ennara and the Fallen Druid 5 out of 5 stars.” —Alisha at The Brainy Bookshelf

“What a charmer of a book! The author does a wonderful job portraying this world and the dangers that lurk. She does an equally good job in making all the characters live--not just the main characters, but the secondary characters as well are fully developed. There are some laugh out loud moments when Ennara first starts working her magic. I'm very glad this is the first book of the series. I'm looking forward to Ennara's next adventure!” —Librarian Judith at Straight from the Library

“Great story. Ms. Myron has a fantastic way with words that just easily picks you up and drops you in the middle of this magical place. Fun for that awkward age of 8-12 where finding good, clean books is hard. If you're looking for a take-me-away story, you've found one here. ” —Autumn at The Bearded Scribe

A fantastic fantasy story for that difficult 8 - 12 years old age group that can also be enjoyed by older readers, too. This story involves a young girl, Ennara, who knows she is someone special as she was born with a caul and has the mark denoting her potential magical ability tattooed on her wrist. He aunt has been teaching her magical theory, but Ennara has never had chance to use her abilities until now . . .

The author creates a world which is believable and young readers will easily relate to Ennara and the other characters, their feelings, anxieties, excitement and fears. Ennara has kept her tattoo hidden from others for most of her life because her family know how others would react to finding out her special abilities. Attacks on her, her home village and country by the mysterious shadowy demons necessitate Ennara embarking on a journey to retrieve a magical sword with the master magician Tork, who is a family friend. The adventures start in the very first chapter and continue throughout the book. Her first experiment at using magic is hilarious! It is a lively paced, well written and a thoroughly enjoyable read that I have no hesitation in recommending! I believe children who are starting to read books with chapters in them will really enjoy this - it will certainly appeal to anyone who enjoys magical stories, young Merlin style adventures and contains some brilliant characters - like Smoos (a fantastic marine cat), a variety of monsters (I'll never look at a puddle of water in the same way again), dark magic and a heroine who is just learning how to perform magic as well as a worrying prophecy she has just learnt about! whilst the book comes to an appropriate ending, it also has strong links to the next book in the series - I want to read that, too, soon!

What a great book to start a young reader into a fantasy genre! Many children will be intrigued by all characters; a wizard, monsters and the children that are on the adventure.

Ennara is an eleven year old heroine within the story, she has been sent on a mission to go to the Sunken City. There she will find a sword that will help her fight to save her city that has been under attack. A curse has been changing people into shadowy demons and no one knows how to stop them. Along the way Ennara meet a bunch of colorful characters and fought pirates, monsters, and an undead sorcerer!

Many girls will enjoy reading this story, since the lead heroine is a girl, they might be able to relate more to the story. There were also some lessons stuck into the story, which I loved. Not sure if it was done intentionally, but I caught them and enjoyed them.

Angela Myron did a great job creating a world full of imagination, which will allow children to immerse into Ennara’s world and love every minute of it!

This is a novel which owes a lot to Harry Potter, so if you liked those books - the early ones in the series specifically, then you will love this one. I liked it very much, although it's a bit young for me. It's aimed at middle-graders, or pre-young adults as I call 'em, bless their little cotton wands....

The story centers on 11-year-old Ennara Gaern, who was born a chosen one - she had a dragon tattoo forcibly stenciled onto her hand (shades of Harry Potter's lightning bolt mark!), and has been trained throughout her life by her aunt to use magic. One night when trying to bring the cow back into the barn on the farm where she lives with mom and dad, she finds herself stalked by a shadespawn - a creepy night creature, once human, which sucks the life out of the living if it can get 'em. Shades of dementors!

Before she knows it, Ennara is on a mission with wizard Tork, leaving her family behind and leaving her village for the first time ever. She's pursued by lifelong friend Kithe Fontaine, who mistakenly thinks she's been kidnapped, so he joins the party, and soon they're joined by Gevin and a sea-cat named Smoos. The three-some are left at a loose end when Tork is overpowered by magic, and they must continue the mission - to visit the sunken city, find the corpse of the Dark Druid, and retrieve the magical Sword of Gisilfrid which will end the Shadespawn curse - without his help.

It turns out that this is stuff and nonsense because it's Ennara who ends the curse, not the sword - although the sword helps, and perhaps she would never have been able to do what she did had she not made that journey and learned to work with her friends, new and old.

This novel was rather simplistic and deus ex machina for my taste, but despite it being a but young for me, it was solidly written, entertaining, and within its own world, realistic, so I have no problem recommending it for the age-group for which it was intended, and I moved right on to review the sequel, Ennara and the Book of Shadows.

Well written with just a few minor editing issues. Enjoyable well fleshed out characters. Intriguing plot with only a few minor flow issues. Intricate world building. Over all a nicely done book sure to please a wide audience. I’d recommend this to younger readers and young at heart readers equally. Great addition to any library, especially schools. I received an evaluation copy in exchange for my honest opinion which may not mirror your own.
