Kirkus Reviews

"This intriguing and intricate story is a winner."

The second book in the Rosenholm Trilogy, which is translated from Danish, reunites readers with magical boarding school students Malou, Chamomile, Kirstine, and Victoria as they try to discover a murderer's identity.

The girls’ second year at Rosenholm Academy has begun, and the friends are back together in their dorm. They’re determined to find out who killed Trine, the former Rosenholm student who vanished in 1989; her ghost manifested to Victoria in Roses & Violets (2023). After Trine writes “SAY SORRY” on Victoria’s fogged-up bathroom mirror, the girls work to decipher this cryptic message, leading them to Trine’s childhood home and her previously unknown sister, an odd, possibly dangerous recluse.

Kappel Jensen weaves imaginative descriptions of the magical lessons (the girls’ studies include intriguing Norse and Celtic mythology) into a good old-fashioned whodunit, and the story adroitly deepens each girl’s character while forging new connections among the cast members. Romantic and sexual desires are integrated within the plot, both in present-day attractions and through ancient fertility rites that honor the seasons from a perspective of female empowerment. The abundant conflict at times gets messily, graphically, and time-consumingly violent, an indulgence that threatens to lacerate the intricate, well-developed plot. Some stones left unturned at the very end neatly set up the intrigue for the third book. Central characters are cued white.

I absolutely enjoyed every minute of this book. This is the first time I have read anything from Gry Kappel Jensen, and I was not disappointed. This was a murder mystery steeped in a Nordic theme. The characters were well written, and the story line was plotted so well. I could not put it down. I can't wait to read more from this author. I highly recommend this book to other thriller/mystery readers.

This book really brings together some of my favorite elements. Norse mythology, an academia setting, and a layered murder mystery all woven into one story made it incredibly easy to stay engaged. Rosenholm Academy has that perfect blend of magic and mystery, with lessons in runes and clairvoyance adding depth to the world while still keeping the story grounded in the characters’ experiences.

I really enjoyed following Chamomile, Kirstine, Victoria, and Malou as they navigate both their studies and the lingering shadows of a past crime. The mystery itself is compelling and unfolds in a way that keeps you wanting to pick the book back up just to see what piece of the puzzle comes next. It strikes a nice balance between fantasy and thriller elements.

So happy to be back at Rosenholm Academy with Chamomile, Kirstine, Victoria, and Malou! Forget Me Not delivers an exciting mix of magic, mystery, and myth that kept me hooked from the start. The atmosphere is rich, the stakes are higher, and the dark secrets lurking beneath the surface add a whole new layer of tension.

The murder mystery twist was a great addition, and I loved seeing how the girls’ friendships were tested as things got more intense. Some parts moved a little slowly, but overall, it was a strong and satisfying continuation of the story.

If you enjoyed Roses and Violets, this sequel absolutely delivers more of what made book one so compelling—and then some!

Full disclosure: I did not read the first book (but now I will) so I can't tell you if this builds on the first book or if it adds to it. However, what I can say is that I LOVED this book!! The characters are great - the relationship between the girls is such a good picture of true friendship. And who doesn't love Dark Acadamia mixed with Norse and Greek Mythology? This is simply a great weekend read, it certainly is a book that will be hard to put down.

I loved how this book brought together some of my favorite things including norse mythology, an academia setting, and an intriguing mystery that kept me interested enough to keep picking it up. I will likely go back and read the first book and finish off the series.

I have not read the first book to judge how this one lines up with world building, but I felt it was slightly lacking in this book. The atmosphere was great, but I just wanted a little more world detail (maybe the detail I was looking for was in book one and they didn't want to be repetitive). The characters were all likable and I liked the focus on the friendship. I feel like most books have friends as more of a side note while this felt more like the focus.

Overall I definitely enjoyed it and look forward to reading the other books.

Thank you NetGalley for an early copy of this book!

3.5 ⭐️! We are back at Rosenholm to solve another mystery.
The character friendships deepened in this sequel and we got to learn so much more about them all. Honestly I cared about them so much I didn’t expect to be so invested.
I had just as much fun with this YA mystery-fantasy.
Very simple and interesting to follow with another good satisfying ending.

Rating: ★★★★☆

I really enjoyed this book, and it pulled me in right from the start. This was my first time reading anything by Gry Kappel Jensen, and overall, it was a strong introduction to her work. The Nordic-inspired setting added a unique layer to the murder mystery, and the atmosphere was both moody and intriguing. The characters were well-developed, and the plot had enough twists to keep me turning pages.

There were a few moments where the pacing dipped slightly, but not enough to take away from the overall enjoyment. I'm definitely interested in reading more from this author in the future!

Thanks to NetGalley ARC, Arctis Books USA, and Gry Kappel Jensen for the opportunity to read this early copy!

What a good follow up to book 1! I really enjoyed reading the ARC version of this, especially since I loved book 1. I don't want to give anything away, but i love the friendship between the girl's, every girl needs friends like that. Im a sucker mythology, especially Norse and Greek mythology, so add that to a dark academia atmosphere and you have me hooked! I found this to be a quick read for me and I read it all in one sitting. I really enjoyed this book and I can't wait to get my hands on a physical version for my trophy book shelf!
